Its exact name is poly(methyl methacrylate), though it is often called simply acrylic. According to the method of manufacturing of acrylic sheets, we can distinguish two basic types of acrylic – extruded and cast. Extruded acrylic is produced by stretching, so its properties are preserved only in one direction. Cast acrylic is therefore a much better quality acrylic and it can guarantee that the product maintains its desired shape in the long term and that it doesn’t sag or crack. That’s why cast acrylic is more expensive than extruded. In terms of manufacture qualities, acrylic is easily workable and thus it is possible to manufacture products in any design. When pressing the acrylic mouldings, the aluminium moulds are used, which ensure accuracy and perfect shape of each product. Another advantage is its fine glossy and nonporous surface that is easy to clean and has antibacterial properties. In terms of comfort, acrylic has an undoubted advantage over a metal bathtub in that it always feels warm and heats up quickly, so the bathtub won’t feel cold when having a bath. Reinforcement Laminate or PU Plus? Laminate As for the laminate reinforcement, a mixture of resin and fibreglass is sprayed onto an acrylic moulding. The ratio of these components and the amount of spay application is controlled by a computer for each individual bathtub. The product with the sprayed layer then hardens in the tempering tunnel, where also strict technological rules apply. The advantage of the glass fibre reinforced laminate is the high rigidity and strength of the product, which is available at an affordable price. The polyurethane foam is sprayed in three layers (hard-soft-hard, or solid-foam-solid) onto the acrylic moulding in the fully robotized workplace. Thanks to the precise manufacturing process a PU Plus product shows a unique rigidity and excellent heat and acoustic insulating qualities. They make these bathtubs suitable for installation of hydromassage systems. Possibility of recycling the whole product is another advantage.
