To save it or to shave it…that is the question
Submitted
Teddy Brinkman, alumni and
former kindergarten teacher at Delia
School, has offered up his luscious
locks as the latest fundraiser for the
Delia School Enhancement Society.
Brinkman, who is currently
teaching grades 5 & 6 in Cessford, Ab.,
is excited to be back at his old
stomping grounds in Delia on April 6
as a part of the entertainment lined up
for the DSES “Boots & Bow Ties Gala”.
In his spare time when he is not
busy working with his students in
Cessford, Brinkman rocks the bass
and keys as a part of the “Suit Jacket
Society”, a band he formed with his
classmates while attending school in
Delia.
In support of the new Delia School
and Community Hub project, Teddy
has offered up all 30 inches of his hair
to the highest bidder.
DELIA SCHOOL
“I would not offer to cut my hair normally,
but in a case like this it is for a
great cause,” said Brinkman.
“Having the lusciously perfect hair I
do, it is a responsibility to show it off
and make people envious. Now it is
time to commit to a good cause and
help support the building of the new
school and community building in
Delia. The destiny of my hair is now in
the hands of the people who I am sure,
deep down, do not want to see it go, I
hope.”
For the #SaveIt vs. #ShaveIt fundraiser,
the team that raises the most
money as of April 6 will decide the fate
of Teddy’s famous hair.
If Team #ShaveIt raises the most
money, every $250 raised will mean
five inches of hair being cut, with a full
shave coming to $10,000.
The results will be announced the
night of the Gala, April 6 and will be
live streamed on the DSES Facebook
page.
DSES is ready to go for the Gala fundraiser
“Boots & Bow Ties”.
Featuring the Elton Lammie Band
and home-grown talent the Suit Jacket
Society, the DSES Gala team is excited
about what is looking like an amazing
night.
With only a few tickets still available
for the evening, this event is expected
to raise over $30,000 towards the new
Delia Community Hub project.
More information will be posted to
the DSES Facebook site ahead of the
Gala, but bidding will only be available
to those at the Gala.
Reflecting on two decades
Cont’d from Pg 1
Reflecting on his nearly two decades
in public office, Sorenson stressed the
importance of his Christian faith
saying, “Politicians are pulled in all
different directions, but my faith, and
the hope that it offers, has been at the
heart of staying principled, serving
with respect and working hard every
day.”
Sorenson also reflected on his first
speech in the House of Commons,
made on February 1, 2001, saying the
sentiments expressed on that surreal
day so long ago, still hold true today.
“Mr. Speaker, I rise today with
honour and a great sense of pride in
representing – in this magnificent
House – the people of Crowfoot. It is a
privilege to stand here today and
address the members of this House in
my maiden speech. Mr. Speaker, may I
begin by sincerely thanking the
numerous volunteers who selflessly
and diligently assisted with my campaign.
It was, undoubtedly, the
collective effort of all those involved
that resulted in my victory and a victory
for the Canadian Alliance in a
very difficult and in some respects
emotional campaign in Crowfoot. I
would like to thank God for allowing
me the privilege of serving the people
of Crowfoot and Him – here in
Parliament. I would also like to pay
special tribute to my family, my parents
and in-laws.
“To my wife Darlene and our children,
Kristen and Ryan, who are here
with me today – as they are everyday –
thank you – I would not be standing in
this honourable House if it was not for
your love and support!
“And, finally Mr. Speaker, to all the
Kevin Sorenson
people of Crowfoot – thank you for
bestowing your faith in me. I promise
to respectfully and truthfully represent
your views and concerns here in
Ottawa. And, I pledge to work hard
with the same diligence as the
majority of you demonstrate daily in
your careers and occupations in our
predominantly rural riding.”
Sorenson thanked and commended
his former and current staff for their
outstanding work and support in running
his Ottawa and Camrose offices.
“Without them I could not have provided
the first-class assistance my
constituents deserve.”
He thanked former Prime Minister,
Stephen Harper, “for the faith he had
in me to be Minister of State for
Finance. A position I served with
honour and to the best of my ability.”
Most importantly, he stated, “Words
are just not enough to express the deep
appreciation and love I have for my
wife and family. Darlene, my partner,
my sounding board, and the one who
has supported and loved me through
this journey, I couldn’t have done it
without her.”
Sorenson concluded by saying that
while he may not be running again, he
absolutely believes “The winds of
change are blowing in Canada and
that Andrew Scheer will be our
nation’s next Prime Minister.”
He also pledged to do everything he
can to make the case to Canadians
that we need to elect a strong Andrew
Scheer led Conservative Government
in the upcoming Fall Election.
Village of Delburne councillors
learned from the provincial government
that the equalized assessment
rate for residential property has
dropped 0.11 per cent from the previous
fiscal year at their regular
council meeting on Marh 26, 2019.
The assessment rate for commercial
property has increased 9.9 per cent.
Administration reported that given
these rates, the estimated total tax revenue
would be $964,975.
Chief Administrative Officer CAO)
Karen Fegan indicated this amount
would bring the village an additional
$24,000 over last year’s total revenue.
Council was also told that the tax
rates for the School Requisition levy
and the Senior Housing Foundation
had not yet been set by the provincial
government.
In other Council news, the committee
responsible for the dispersal of
funds from the Delburne Community
Support Grant Program has allocated
$18,875.28 to 11 organizations and event
organizers in the community, all of
whom had applied for funding.
BIG VALLEY COUNCIL
Modular home request denied

Terri Huxley
ECA Review
Due to safety concerns and
maintaining a relatively cohesive
community, council chose
to turn down a request to allow
for modular homes that are
10-years-old and over within the
village.
A Big Valley resident recently
requested the land use bylaw be
amended to allow for these older
style modular homes to be
allowed.
At their council meeting held
on Thurs. March 28, council felt
that safety was the number one
concern as older homes are
more likely to cause problems
down the road.
A written complaint was also
received, warning of the dangers
of allowing an older home
into the village as it could possibly
‘open a pandora’s box if
allowed’.
Former Chief Administrative
Officer (CAO) Michelle White
spoke with a building inspector
to determine if there was any
significance between a 10-yearold
home and a 12 or 15-year-old
home.
The inspector indicated he
was not in favour of relaxing
the bylaw because of energy and
fire codes which change fairly
often.
By having a fixed age, a
municipality is ensuring the
unit is not excessively outdated
for compliance with all areas of
the safety code.
Neighbouring municipalities
New sergeant in town
ECA Review
Coronation town council had
their first official meet and
greet with new Sgt. Jason Smith
at their regular meeting held on
Mon. March 25.
Sgt. Smith came to
Coronation with extensive experience
in a number of areas,
serving in Drumheller,
Hobbema and Maythorpe
detachments.
He is also currently overseeing
the Consort detachment
until a replacement arrives in
May.
Sgt. Smith approached
council to hear any concerns
they might have and spoke
about his commitment to tackling
elderly fraud within the
community.
Council suggested more
RCMP presence in and around
the school and recreation facilities
would be an area of interest.
Coronation Library
The annual Coronation
library report was delivered by
Chelsey Peacock, the new manager
as of the end of July 2018.
The library has seen a growth
in membership by 92 card
holders since 2016, as well as a
63 per cent increase in library
use, 26 per cent website interaction
and 11 per cent increase in
year range.
“I’m not inclined to change
the bylaw,” said Mayor Sandra
Schell. “I’m inclined to leave it
as the 10 years due to safety
codes, due to the discussion
from the building spector with
what he has put forward, and
the fact that we are not that out
of line with any other municipality
in doing what we do.”
Pump Track Park
With youth engagement
at the forefront of the last
municipal election, council
has found a pump track
park to be an excellent way
of achieving these requests
from youth in the area.
A pump track park is a
circuit of hills and banked
turns which can be used by
a wide variety of skill
levels.
It was originally created by
the professional biker scene but
these parks are known to be
cheaper than average and are
wheel chair, skateboard and
scooter accessible.
CAO Priscilla Brown asked
council how they wanted to
pursue this potential idea as
more clarification on direction
was needed.
Council felt it was important
that an outside group take the
lead on the project but would
support by way of finances,
grant help and possibly materials
and work.
Having a group that is not
attached to the village was said
to be beneficial as there are
grants the village can not apply
An addition of 32 more programs
in 2018, such as the
mobile library, summer reading
program, crafts and movie
nights has been well received by
the public.
Fundraising saw an additional
$3,606 and donations
made $5,681 available for program
use and development.
As well, 634 new books and
materials were purchased with
a focus on tween and teen
interaction.
Chief Administrative Officer
(CAO) Sandra Kulyk reviewed
the 2018/2019 library budget and
found all to be in order.
Coun. Jackie Brigley brought
up some concerns regarding the
community standards bylaws
for Coronation.
One of the issues being discussed
is the allotment of two
derelict vehicle enforcement
issues.
Keeping the town clean and
preserving land values is an
ongoing concern and more discussion
is expected to be
brought back up at the next
meeting to address the matter.
Free system
George Glazier attended the
council meeting to make a presentation
on the Alberta
Tourism Information System
(ATIS) to encourage more use of
for but another organization
can.
“The government wants more
collaboration for even getting
your grant,” said Deputy Mayor
Harry Nibourg. “So in order to
get your grant, you’ve got to
show that you are collaborating
with other entities just to make
it more viable.
“
The cost to construct
a park like this has a
potential price tag
between $125,000
and $150,000.
“They don’t want to be giving
individual grants to everybody.
They would rather give more to
a bigger group,” he concluded.
Council agreed that the partnership
should entail their
contributions of finding the
land and maintenance on top of
the previously mentioned duties
but the fundraising itself would
fall under the other organization
or multiple organizations.
The cost to construct a park
like this has a potential price
tag between $125,000 and
$150,000.
Under the direction of
council, village staff will
approach a number of local
groups with this idea of fundraising
and how the village
the system as it is free and
would benefit the town’s
tourism sector.
It was discussed that more
events rather than just the
rodeo and fair should be added
on a regular basis to help make
tourists and other communities
aware of what is happening in
Coronation year round,
including the library programs
and other local events.
Aerial photo
A new aerial photo showcasing
town growth was
discussed as the last one was
completed in 2013. Council
decided to wait until 2020 for a
new image.
Summer labor was also on
the agenda, specifically the
need for a third position.
The Summer Temporary
Employment Program (STEP)
covers up to $4,000 worth of
wages currently for two
summer student positions to
help maintain parks, walking
trails and street fronts.
Council agreed to hire a third
student to meet the town’s needs
in this area at the cost of
approximately $7,000.
The water pooling issue at
Thornton Park was another
concern addressed with possible
solutions to the problem to
be brought back to the next
meeting.
and some of the
reports that are produced
monthly just
didn’t seem to add up to
me,” said Brown in her
report to council.
Brown spoke with
County of Stettler CAO
Yvette Cassidy with her
theory. She put Brown in
touch with a member of
their water management
team and found the credit.
Since inception, water has
been incorrectly metered at
the SMRWSC reservoir and
billed to Big Valley but they
found it should be billed in
Big Valley.
The meter reading is
expected to be fixed in time
for the next cycle.
“There are still discrepancies
that I feel are out there
but we are working with the
people up in Stettler to
figure out if it’s a Big Valley
issue or if it’s a them issue,”
said CAO Brown.
All of council felt the discovery
was exceptional.
“That’s a great find – like
huge. Well done,” said
Mayor Schell.
Brown mentioned there
had been a couple of cases in
which a resident came to the
her and other staff
members.
She drew a line in the
sand and asked the individuals
to leave in order to get
their bearings and calm
down before coming back
inside.
A zero tolerance harassment
placed on the door as
Typically, a resident
would fill out a one page
bylaw complaint form but
CAO Brown has found that
many residents do not wish
to have their name on the
Mayor Schell assured her
that this was not the case
and all that information was
“We’ve said it 100 times if
“That is straight up yours
unless it goes to court.
Mayor Schell had called
Municipal Affairs about the
CAO’s responsibilities and it
was determined when she
Water Tower
value reviewed
Terri Huxley
ECA Review
Council learned at their meeting
held on Thurs. March 21, currently, the
local water tower is insured at $200,000
after council made the decision in 2017.
They felt this was a sufficient
amount of insurance as it may present
challenges for removal.
Their insurance provider has asked
council to start reviewing this on an
annual basis and to provide feedback.
The value of the water tower has
been reduced to $610,000 although previously
valued at $1.2 million.
Coun. Lynn Schultz asked about the
premium attached to this with council
having a consensus of approximately
10 to 15 per cent of the value. They felt
this price would help them make a
decision.
CAO Fuller did some digging and
found the premium to be a whopping
$12.30.
“That was so worth finding,”
laughed CAO Fuller.
A motion was made to keep the
water tower insured at $200,000.
Durksen family reunites in light of bravery award
ECA Review
Yvonne Thulien
The family of John Peter
Durksen gathered Sat. Mar.
30 at Points West Living in
Stettler, Ab. to celebrate and
honour his memory and
legacy.
In June of 1935, Durksen
selflessly gave his life in an
attempt to save two of his
neighbours in the tiny
hamlet of Sedalia, Ab., south
of Consort, Ab.
Through the efforts of
granddaughter Brenda
(Durksen) Reesor and her
husband Dale, the Royal
Canadian Humane
Association (RCHA) graciously
bestowed on
Durksen the Silver Medal
for Bravery posthumously.
According to the bylaws of
RCHA, the incident in question
should not exceed past
18 months.
Never having had such a
request made concerning an
event so long ago, the board
had to meet to discuss the
events of June, 1935.
Moved by the sincerity of
the request, the bravery of
Durksen, and the impact on
the community at the time,
the decision to grant the
medal was made.
When you look at the certificate
it says King George
V bestowed the honour, for it
was he who reigned in June
1935.
There were 34 family
members on hand with all
four of his children’s families
being represented.
On hand were his two surviving
children, Anne
(Thulien) and Walter
Durksen, with their families,
along with the families
of Helen (Wiltse) and Vernon
Durksen.
Also present was
Durksen’s nephew, Bill
Kroker, who grew up on the
farm where the accident
occurred.
Dale Reesor, married to
John’s grand-daughter and
Walter’s daughter, Brenda,
gave a speech regarding the
heroic act Durksen did but
also the sadness of not
knowing how life would
have been with their father,
grandfather, and
great-grandfather.
“Today we gather to
reflect on and celebrate a
life of a father, grandfather,
great-grandfather most of us
have never met. So we too
imagine. We imagine a life
so well-lived but a life lived
so short, a life that concluded
its journey on the
afternoon of Fri. June 28,
1935 at Sedalia.
“We imagine a man
named John Peter
Durksen,” said Reesor.
Durksen arrived in
Canada in 1925 with his
young wife, and a few other
family members as they
landed in Quebec City, like
many Mennonites who left
Europe at that time.
They settled a half mile
north of Sedalia, a hamlet
that was likely much like
the Mennonite enclave of
Marienthal in the
Molotschna Colony of south
central Ukraine.
Durksen and his wife,
Helen, had four children;
Helen, Anne, Walter, and
Vernon.
From the time of arriving
in Canada to his death 10
years later, Durksen became
the successful proprietor of
the local garage and was a
well-respected member of
the community.
On that fateful day in late
June, Durksen heard cries
for help from a couple of
neighbours who were
attempting to repair a frost
plug line in a septic well.
John Dahl, 66, went in
first before having effects
from carbon monoxide
which occupied the space.
His son, Norris Dahl, 22, followed
him in to help him out
before also being distressed
by the noxious gas.
Durksen heard them and
quickly came to their aid.
A doctor from a nearby
community came to the
scene to resuscitate them
but it was too late. Death
certificates state the cause
of death as carbon monoxide
poisoning.
No Greater Love
The theme of
the gathering
was “No Greater
Love” which was
displayed on the
cake the family
shared.
Reesor concluded
his
speech with,
“Years ago a
radio announcer
used to tell stories
and after a
brief interlude,
he would return
with the finish to
the tale told.
Paul Harvey’s
monologue concluded
with him
saying, “and now
the rest of the
story. It was a
punctuation
mark at the end
of his telling.”
We only need consider how Rick
Strankman was treated to ask ourselves
is Jason Kenney really the
leader we want for Alberta?
Nothing against Nate Horner, but
Kenney and his insiders have manipulated
the United Conservative Party
(UCP) party to clearly sideline former
Wildrose party members.
Released emails between the
Kenney and Jeff Callaway’s UCP leadership
campaigns and audio
recordings from the Callaway insider
club are telling.
Kenney and Callaway concocted a
scheme to ensure former Wildrose
Leader, Brian Jean could not win the
leadership of the UCP.
“
Wrong answer
Kenny, it’s your personal
responsibility if you
choose to help your mom,
not our tax dollars.
It’s clear Callaway went into the
leadership race to criticize and attack
Jean, then as pre-arranged with
Kenney operatives, drop out of the race
and throw his support behind Kenney
when enough damage had been
inflicted on Jean.
Now Callaway, his wife and other
closely connected people have gone to
court to stop the investigation into
their possible donation violations.
Brian Jean is honourable and
honest—a conservative with principles
who was defeated by the
backroom political maneuvering of the
Kenney/Calloway team. It’s becoming
obvious Alberta has its own dirty little
‘House of Cards’ script of cynical
politics.
Kenney is not a conservative. He’s a
libertarian, neo-liberal and a sadopopulist,
whose policies are designed
to help the richest of the rich, hurt the

“
MAIL BAG
most vulnerable in society and gain
support through divisive politics.
The Callaway/Kenney campaigns
lied about Jean’s Christian values, his
position on certain pieces of legislation
and accused him of cheating during
the leadership race. Now being challenged
with hard facts, Kenney is
using the Trump standard for sleazy
politics—lie, deny and deflect.
Kenney has a history of shadiness,
including cheating the taxpayer of
$17,000 between 2012 and 2016 when he
claimed as his primary residence the
basement of his mother’s bungalow in
a Calgary retirement community.
Before that he claimed a room in his
parent’s house.
The rules are clear; a primary residence
is where the member spends
weekends and most of his time when
the House is not sitting. The evidence
collected against Kenney was the low
number of airline tickets purchased
to and from Calgary.
When challenged, Kenney used
Trumpian techniques—attack the
lawyer who had the facts and play the
good son card, “I was just helping my
mom”.
Wrong answer Kenney. It is your
personal responsibility if you choose
to help your mom, not our tax dollars.
Kenney is Alberta’s very own Mike
Duffy. Remember, Mike, the man who
smelled up the Conservative Party to
high heaven when caught claiming his
cabin on P.E.I. as his principal
residence.
Breaking election donation rules
wasn’t beyond Kenney either. In 2016
while claiming Alberta as his primary
residence, he donated to the
Ontario Conservatives. Kenney has
been in politics far too long to not
know that a non-resident donating to
political campaigns is illegal.
Surely personal character and
integrity should matter when
choosing a leader. If it were not for the
Kenney/Calloway attack on the democratic
process during the election of
the leader of the UCP, today our choice
could have been between four honourable
politicians, Brian Jean, Rachel
Notley, Stephen Mandel and David
Khan, and our decision would have
been based on policy platforms, rather
than character.
Following the herd
Jason Kenney has been adamant
since becoming the leader of the
United Conservative Party (UCP) that
his first legislative act if he became
premier would be to repeal the carbon
tax.
So far so good!
Now we find that other than axing
the tax, he really doesn’t disagree that
much with Notley’s “Climate Change
Plan.”
“
According to the Globe and Mail, he
has stated that he believes in humancaused
climate change and will find a
different way to decrease carbon
It would appear that he completely
disregards the science of real climate
scientists, that report their findings
based on evidence and not consensus
like environmental scientists.
For example, the temperature on
stand apart from the mainstream
media or other political leaders when
it comes to the issue of climate change.
He is taking the easy way out and
just following the herd. He should be
condemning Notley’s entire “ Climate
Leadership Plan”
Kenney is going along with the “old”
Progressive Conservative (PC) system
of top-down policy development.
This included allowing the PC political
establishment to orchestrate
dishonest candidate nominating contests
like the one in the Drumheller
Stettler constituency.
This board was totally biased in
favour of one candidate and did everything
it could to prevent members
from voting for another candidate.
They also found a questionable
excuse to disqualify a third candidate
from competing.
There have been numerous UCP
contests that have been controversial
with some candidates being disqualified
and others have given
preferential treatment to the parties
“preferred” candidate was allowed to
win.
What has been obvious ever since
the UCP’s founding meeting is that
operatives from the legacy PC party
have been purging people from the
legacy Wildrose Party.
They do not want grassroots ideas
and influence in this party. Real
democracy is not in their DNA.
You only use democracy when it
works to your advantage.
As has been pointed out in articles
and columns from other writers the
‘party system’ has a systemic
weakness.
the caucus will vote on almost every
Dear Editor,
It is fine to talk on about
“property rights”, PrairieView,
Mar. 21, 2019, titled, Has happened
talking about property rights
for all Alberta if you are concerned
about provincial and
The same regulations apply to
all title land in Alberta.
As far as the “smear campaign”;
it has been brought into
reality by Rick Strankman and
is totally self-inflicted.
His actions, through words
from the verbatim exchange
Independent members of the legislature
What you really have with the party
In my opinion, if the UCP had real
at the founding convention in Red Deer
on May 4 - 5, 2018.
The delegates there did not visualize
that the UCP leadership would
Strankman, in my opinion,
obviously shows no respect for
or acknowledgement that our
democratically-elected Special
Areas councillors and elected
board members even exists, as
he presses the Minister with
comments and questions.
After reading those transcripts,
it can be concluded, in
my opinion, that MLA
Strankman is working against
the Special Areas
Administration by attempting
to undermine it. That undermining
of the Special Areas by
the MLA, in my opinion, must
stop.
Furthermore, it is the people
of the Special Areas, working
with their elected council and
board members, who decide
how the affairs of the Special
Form of dictatorship
condone cheating to have candidates
elected that were the choice of the
party hierarchy rather than members.
The grassroots members of the party
should have been free to nominate candidates
that would represent their
interests.
It seems to me what we will have
now in the UCP is a form of dictatorship
that represents the aspirations of
the leader rather than party members.
For example, getting back to the climate
change issue, caucus members
would have to support the leader’s
position on the issue.
An independent MLA would be free
to expose the fraud that is currently
being perpetrated on humanity.
Wouldn’t that be a change!
MAIL BAG
Governments have diminished property rights
Dear Editor,
On any given day, we can
read news articles and information
on bullying and its
devastating effects.
My personal experience
started when I was in grade
school.
It was quietly excused as the
“pecking order”.
It was not until I started
standing up for myself that
things changed.
From school yards to politicians,
domestic and global, the
abuse takes many forms from
the obvious to the subtle.
Subtle is defined as, “quietly
making use of clever direct and
indirect methods to achieve
something”.
Past and present Alberta governments
have slowly over time
diminished property rights.
Areas are handled.
Similarly, I do not meddle in
the affairs of Paintearth or
Stettler County affairs because
I don’t live there.
Conversely, I would politely
ask people not to meddle in
Special Areas affairs if they do
not live here.
If an MLA cannot and will
not work with and support all
municipal forms of government
that the present and acceptable
to the people of that Riding,
then that non-supportive MLA
will not be a satisfactory representative
for the Riding.
This is our situation in
Stettler-Drumheller.
We need a change. The
change is available at the election
polls. Doug Fawcett
Consort, Ab.
Punished for their initiative
Cont’d from Pg 6
And without home ownership
– and we don’t mean the overpriced
and over-mortgaged sort
– you are really just a serf which
wordlessly works at the whims
of others.
So with lots of anticipation
and a little desperation, large
numbers of Canadians and
people from around the world
have made Alberta home.
In fact, Alberta’s population
grew much faster than Canada’s
total population from 2001 to
2016.
More than a million people
decided to become Albertans.
That is more people than the
total populations of either New
Brunswick, Prince Edward
Island, Nova Scotia or
Newfoundland, or even a couple
of those provinces combined.
Wow!
Put another way, Canada,
without Alberta, grew by 11 per
cent while Alberta grew three
times faster at 33 per cent.
And so again Alberta claims
the title of the “last best west ”
as it had in the early 1900s.
Why? Back then it was ‘free’
farmland.
Not really free, one still had
to risk and work for it. But
today it is worthwhile work.
If you can’t find that work
elsewhere, Alberta has been the
place to be most of the time.
But today, regular, hardworking
Albertans are being
punished for their initiative
through so-called transfer payments
worth hundreds of
billions of dollars.
And look, the term ‘infrastructure
deficit’, which some
think was caused by paying
down Albertans’ debt, is just a
convenient way to blame and
bully Albertans.
Remember, that while the
Canadian government was
over-taxing Albertans, we
Albertans were absorbing large
numbers of newcomers and still
paying off our public debt.
And to this end, every
Canadian government since
Alberta’s creation in 1905 has
‘exported’ political divisions
like conservative, liberal, and
NDP parties.
From the very start their aim
has been to divide and conquer
Albertans.
We can solve this by realizing
that we are now Albertans and
the Canadians we left behind
have only ever had their very
own interests at heart no matter
how much they wrap themselves
in a Canadian flag.
A flag that now barely covers
our attractive Albertan arses.
Our first Alberta premier,
Alexander Rutherford, once
said, much to the chagrin of his
Canadian liberal party bosses,
“I appeal to you not as liberals
or conservatives, but as
Albertans. The province must
stand before the party.”
But today, for Albertans to
survive and thrive, Alberta
must always stand before
Canada.
Corinne & Jay Bortnik,
Albertans
Hanna, Alberta
This gives government
and corporations immense
power to push through a
wide array of projects,
including oil and gas, seismograph
and electrical
(transmission lines, renewable
energy sources).
Allow me to get on my
soapbox for a minute or two
to address our coming
election.
Once Alberta voters get
past the fear mongering
from the NDP, we will have
a conservative government.
I personally do not want a
return to total dominance
by one party.
This is what got us to
where we are today.
We need conservative
independent thinkers in our
legislature to hold government
accountable.
The challenge to Jason
Kenney, leader of the United
Conservative Party (UCP), is
this: If he and the UCP party
want to truly be global
leaders in respecting
Happy, friendly and outgoing
Ricky Dane Chapman was born at
the Stettler Hospital on Dec. 12, 1977, at
7:55 p.m.
His brother Ryan and cousin Sean
could hardly wait for him to come
home.
Ricky was a very pretty baby and Dr.
Karia said he should have been a girl
and teased Ricky about it for years.
Ricky just laughed.
Ricky was a happy
active baby who grew into
a happy active boy.
Ricky, Ryan and Sean
ran around the farm
always together and when
Damian came along and
got big enough, he went
with them too.
They were all as close
as brothers ever could be.
Ricky could not wait to
start school.
A Celebration
of Life will be
held at Baker
Funeral Chapel
Chapman
When he did finally get there, that’s
when he started his lifelong love of
girls.
Ricky loved sports and started
playing hockey at 6-years-old right
through high school.
He also played other sports
including soccer and ball. He played
football for the Wildcats in Grade 10.
By then he had met his best friend
Stace who was like a brother.
Ricky also held Stace’s parents Gwen
and Terry Stenberg in very high
regards.
Ricky and Stace had many, many
good times together. Ricky remained
happy, friendly and outgoing and had
many friends.
Prior to graduation, Ricky decided to
go and try his hand at pipelining and
Annas
OBITUARIES
flew to the north to work with Dorn
Stewart.
A couple of months later, he
returned to graduate and then went
back to the north with M & N Pipeline
out of Coronation.
Ricky returned many times to work
for his best friend’s dad, Terry at
Stenberg Oilfield.
As with all oilfield work, things
slowed and Ricky went to work
at Sonny’s Welding with his dad
and cousin.
Ricky stayed with Sonny, other
than periodical stints with SK
Welding, Doug Plett-Ram
Welding and Delta Cats and
again with Stenberg Oilfield
until due to health reasons,
Sonny retired.
Ricky, cousin Sean and the
rest of the flock headed to
Watson’s Welding, where Ricky
operated equipment and welded until
2012.
He decided to try something different
and went to work with Foremost
Welding, building hydro vac trucks for
six years.
It was at this time, he met Tabetha
Shaffer and her son Ethan who were a
huge part of his life.
Ricky went to work for WTS
Manufacturing–Wayne Tebbe, where
he worked until his passing.
When Ricky wasn’t pipelining or
welding you could find him at the farm
helping his Dad with the fencing,
working cattle or whatever the day
brought, or in town helping his Mom.
Ricky is survived by his loving
family: girlfriend Tabetha Shaffer
ECA REVIEW
Double the fundraising for Community Cancer Centre: Silversmith Cattle held their annual
cattle sale in March where they sold tickets on a barbecue. Through generous support of
their bull sale customers, they were able to raise $5,640 with all proceeds given to the
Drumheller Community Cancer Centre. This barbecue was then donated back and is headed
to the Cancer Centre where they will be conducting a raffle to make the dollar figure that
much larger.
Railway (FBRR) hosted a private
viewing of paintings
and
photography
from two local
talents on Fri.
March 29 at the
train station in
Forestburg, Ab.
On display
were recent
paintings by
renowned artist
W.H Webb and
local wildlife photography
by Joe
Hartung.
The pair partnered
together for
this event to raise
funds for the
FBRR.
While Webb
has shown and
sold his artwork
in different galleries
for many
years, this was
Hartung’s first
showing of his photographs.
Webb’s realistic landscape paintings
and Hartung’s amazing photos of
wildlife that lives in the countryside
complimented each other nicely.
RCMP warn of online 48-hour
disappearance challenge
Submitted
Alberta RCMP want to
remind parents to be aware of
their children’s online activity,
as there are new trends and
viral videos emerging at all
times.
For example, there have been
allegations on social media of
the “48-hour challenge,” which
dares youth to go “missing” for
48 hours to earn points based on
the number of times they are
mentioned during their
disappearance.
Every report of a missing
person is taken seriously and
investigated with all available
resources. Investigations on
current and recent missing
youth have not revealed any
link to the “48-hour-challenge.”
“We don’t want youth putting
themselves in danger to keep up
with online trends,” says Sgt.
Raymond Tardif of the “K”
Division Missing Persons Unit.
“We remind parents to be
aware of their children’s online
activities and remind them that
fake reports divert resources
from legitimate emergencies
and investigations.”
Here are some tips for
keeping your kids safe while
using the Internet: Set rules for
RCMP
what your kids can and can’t do
online; Teach your kids to check
with you before downloading
anything; Set the expectation
that you will monitor children’s
use of devices; Use parental controls;
Discuss what children are
allowed to share online; Keep
open lines of communication;
Encourage kids to talk to you if
something makes them feel
uncomfortable.
Drumheller RCMP attended
the Drumheller Federal
Institution on March 10, 2019 to
civilian staff member had been
detained by security for
bringing in drugs and additional
contraband items.
Charges have been laid on
Sarah Kathleen Blanke (40) of
Drumheller, Ab. for one count of
Bomb threat hoax
Drumheller RCMP received a
complaint that a bomb threat
had been received at the
McDonalds restaurant on Sat.
March 23, 2019, at around 8 p.m.
The restaurant was closed
and the area blocked off by
marked police vehicles.
The RCMP Explosives unit
was consulted and following an
investigation, it was determined
the threat was a hoax and there
was no danger to the public.
Police are continuing the
investigation into the source of
the phone call and the suspect
who initiated the calls to the
restaurant.
If anyone has any information
they want to share with
police they can call the nonemergency
A random lightning strike to the Strome Fire Department station on June 13, 2018 was said to have damaged structural
beams, the wall and the ceiling in the rear of the fire hall. From the left, Don Kroetch, Brenda Hauck, Brad Mohler, Jim
Hauck, Dan Wieschorster, Maurice Miller, Cory Robbins, Bruce Zimmer and Kristen Hauck are happy to be back to their
duties following a time out.
ECA Review
Just like any other fire
department, the Strome Fire
Department came together on
march 21 to restock their trucks
and check their gear for the
next emergency.
The difference was that this
was the first time the local team
had been in their station since
June 13 after a random lightning
strike caused the building
to begin burning.
It severely damaged the structure,
approximately $193,000 in
total according to Flagstaff
County regional emergency services
coordinator, Kim Cannady.
Over the past eight months,
neighbouring community fire
departments including Killam
and Daysland stepped up to lend
a hand while money was raised
and the building was
reconstructed.
Strome members were not
dispatched to any calls during
this time out.
MAIL BAG
Hansen case explained further
Dear Editor,
Property rights is the fundamental
basis of any free society.
I commend the United
Conservatives for showing the
fortitude to make this a key
campaign plank. This is an
issue that has been at the heart
of the political culture of our
constituency for 81 years.
Folks may remember the
infamous PC land bills, highlighted
by Bill 36 – the Land
Stewardship Act.
Routes not written in stone
Cont’d from Pg 7
“If elected, this spring, our United
Conservative government will bring a
series of specific measures to establish
Alberta as a world leader in the production
of property rights.”
Repeal of the clause would ensure
property rights are restored to ensure
corporations involved in projects,
engage in meaningful dialogue while
respecting land owners’ rights.
Briefly on the ATCO/Altalink transmission
line.
I want to address the issue of proposed
project routes.
These are only proposed project
routes.
The routes presented in your information
package are
very likely subject to
change.
You may not now
be on a proposed
project route, but a
second round of
open houses, by
ATCO/Altalink in
June will present
more defined proposed
project routes.
This will include
the type of structure,
so I am told.
You may remember Section
11, which gave the government
the authority to ‘extinguish’
property rights in the pursuit of
whatever the sitting government
deems to be in the “public
interest.”
We’ve seen the devastation of
what the ‘green left’ ideology
can do to the economy. Without
property rights, the government
can do whatever they
choose to do with your land,
and you have no right or
Be aware, at this time you may be on
the route or closer than you are now.
I bring this up in my conversations
with landowners and there seems to be
a misconception that these current
routes are somehow ‘the routes’,
written in stone.
The routes presented in June will
have been tweaked to address concerns
and comments gathered during
the first round.
Once again, form groups, voice your
concern, stand up for change.
Strength in opposition. Strength in
numbers.
Brett Penosky
Stettler, Ab.
recourse to stop them.
The United Conservatives are
right to stand up for these
rights. One of the cases referenced
in their announcement
was the case of David and Linda
Hansen, a couple residing in the
Special Areas.
The Hansen’s purchased
property in the Special Areas in
the 1980s, and shortly after
were embroiled in a battle with
the government over a dam that
was on their land.
Split the vote, no chance
Dear Editor,
I would like to correct some
misinformation that has been
floating about in the
Drumheller-Stettler
Constituency during the current
Provincial election contest.
Full disclosure, I have a bias
as I have worked in Mr.
Strankman’s Stettler office for
the past seven years.
Firstly, a narrative is being
promoted that Mr. Strankman,
as an independent conservative,
is going to split the vote and
allow the NDP to run up the
middle. There is absolutely no
chance of that happening. It is
simply fearmongering.
In the 2015 Provincial election
Mr. Strankman under the
Wildrose Party garnered 7,570
votes or 47.66 per cent, Mr.
Hayden under the PC’s took
5,388 or 33.92 per cent and the
NDP candidate had 2,927 votes
or 18.43 per cent.
In the 2012 election the NDP
had 408 votes for 2.7 per cent.
So anyone with a room temperature
IQ can crunch the
numbers and see that a split is
not remotely possible.
Mark Nikota is a credible
candidate with the Alberta
Party and may make some
gains in the Constituency but
Drumheller-Stettler’s history
Squeeze
suggests a Conservative
outcome.
Secondly, Mr. Strankman has
been accused of trying to take
land away from landowners in
the Special Areas, that being
Crown leases or tax recovery
land.
Again totally untrue. He has
talked about making revisions
to the Special Areas Act that
has been in force since 1938.
Furthermore, he has suggested
reverting to Municipal
governance may be a better
vehicle to promote economic
development in the Special
Areas.
Currently the Minister of
Municipal Affairs has total control
of Special Areas.
Certain parties are happy
with the status quo as they benefit
greatly from revenue
accruing from oil/gas leases on
the aforementioned Crown
leases.
This has been an ongoing
debate for decades and could
easily be resolved through
referenda.
When I first met Mr.
Strankman he made a statement
to an audience, “There is
never a wrong time to do the
right thing”.
I have never seen him deviate
from that pronouncement. He
There is no doubt in my mind
that Jason Kenney and the UCP
will form the next Government
of Alberta but who will hold his
feet to the fire, “to do the right
thing”.
He has already cast off “the
grassroots guarantee” that propelled
him into leadership of the
UCP.
He has also watered down his
promise to eliminate the offensive
carbon tax and will keep it
in place for large emitters. And
you know who these so called
large emitters will pass that
expense along to.
The Kenney/Callaway alliance
in the leadership race
should also be troubling if one
believes in ethics.
For those of you who supported
the Wildrose Party in
past elections you may want to
check your hiney for tread
marks.
Mr. Strankman has proven to
me that he is an honest and
decent person, a rare commodity
in politics.
I will be voting for principle
and integrity on April 16. I hope
you will do the same.
G.A. (Gary) Wilyman
Stettler, Ab.
In his letter to the editor,
Cessford native Colin
McNiven (who, coincidently
and unsurprisingly, is also
neighbour to United
Conservative candidate
Nathan Horner) says that
the Public Lands Act sets
policy for the entire
province.
This is simply not true.
It should be noted that the
government department the
Hansen’s were embroiled
with was not the Ministry of
Environment and Parks
(which oversees the Public
Lands Act) but the Ministry
of Municipal Affairs (which
oversees the Special Areas
Act).
Notably, there is a clause
in the Special Areas Act –
Section 27 – which states “If
any conflict between this
Act and any other Act, this
Act prevails.”
Under the Special Areas
Act, specifically Section 7,
landowners within their
borders do not have any
legal property rights.
The Act grants authority
to the Special Areas Board,
who are under the administration
of the Minister of
Municipal Affairs.
The Hansen’s never had
any legal right to their land
under the Special Areas Act.
An interesting tidbit about
that case: Abner Grover
was, at the time, chairman
of the Special Areas Board
while his brother, Archie,
was the Deputy Minister of
Municipal Affairs.
They were both within
their legal right to expropriate
the land. And the
Hanson’s had no protection
against a government arm
that was bent on imposing
their will, no matter the
cost.
The United Conservatives
under Jason Kenney took
clear aim at the Special
Areas Act in their
announcement.
This is where things get
interesting:
The Special Areas Board,
through use of fear tactics,
has engineered a hostile
takeover of the United
Conservative Party in
Drumheller-Stettler.
The influence of the
Special Areas is present:
countless campaign officials
and Constituency
Association board members
have direct ties to the
Special Areas Board itself.
However, without such
stringent controls over landowners,
their ability to rule
as land-barons – as the act
entitles them – fades away.
What is ironic is that they
took over the riding to try
and save the Special Areas.
This policy announcement
by the United
Conservatives all but ends
it.
It’s nice to see Mr.
McNiven standing up so
boldly for his neighbours in
the process. Even when he’s
caught spreading ‘untruths’
in the process.
Cracks appearing in the mask
Dear Editor,
Most of us remember from our
school days the word hypocrite stemming
from a first century Greek word
meaning a mask.
Since the actors of that time wore
masks in order to appear to be
someone other than themselves, the
word ultimately came to mean an
actor or a stage player.
The irony of this is not lost on
Canadians who have come to realize
our Prime Minister’s previous occupation
as a drama teacher has no doubt
contributed to his skill in the art of
hypocrisy.
When Justin Trudeau appeared on
the stage in 2015 as Prime Minister of
Freedom or servitude
Dear Editor
Alberta, Strong and Free, has a nice
ring to it. Jason Kenney is now trying
to convince us that this Conservative
government will at last grant us real
property rights, when 45 years of
Conservative rule failed to do so.
While property rights should be
basic to a free society, Albertans
cannot say with certainty that their
property rights are secure.
This is particularly true of our
farmers and ranchers in Special Areas
2, 3, and 4, which sound a bit like the
Russian zemstra of the 1860s.
After generations of serfdom, the
Tsar had “freed” the peasants and
allowed them to own land. He established
zemstra in each district to
resolve local economic issues.
These boards were composed of a
few noblemen and delegates from the
urban and peasant classes, but the
noblemen carried 74 per cent of the
weight in decision making.
However, a Governor had final veto
power over any
decision made.
Not exactly
with a “one size fills all” mentality.
Board members may be well
meaning but may be unaware of the
specific circumstances, problems, and/
or innovative ideas of each farmer or
rancher.
Furthermore, leasing land does not
encourage the sense of stewardship
that private ownership does.
The Longman (1953) and Hanson
(1961) Commissions recommended a
return to municipal district status, but
a Mr. Clyde Stauffer discouraged its
implementation due to a fear of
drought – so Special Areas 2, 3, and 4
remain (The Special Areas – Canada
Institute of Resources Law).
Perhaps it is at last time to take
courage and phase out the Special
Areas Boards, replacing them with
municipal governments as was successfully
done in Cypress, Newell,
Forty Mile and Taber.
Think of Taber corn; imagine the
benefits of adding some irrigation to
Special Areas 2, 3, and 4!

freedom!
Currently, in
Alberta, the
Minister of
Municipal
Affairs delegates
broad powers to
the Special Areas
Board.
The Board can
order and require
the “owners” to
adopt any
methods of
farming or
grazing the
Minister deems
best.
One can hope
that this Board
will make good
decisions but, as
with all bureaucracies,
there is
the tendency to
make decisions
of all Canadians, promising to
solve the murdered and missing indigenous
women problem, improve the
care and benefits of veterans, as well
as introduce electoral reform.
He pranced, smiled and posed, all
the while keeping his acting mask in
Justin.
Once in a while the mask would slip
and he would momentarily give way to
anger, profanity and impatience but
we, as easy going, all forgiving and
polite Canadians gave him a by and
hoped for improvement as time went
on.
We gathered together in various
coffee shops to discuss the matter and
in the end always agreed, although he
was young with very little experience,
he did have nice hair.
As days, months and now years have
gone by, we began to realize even that
attribute was growing thin.
When the ethics commissioner chastised
him and others in his
government for questionable behaviour,
the actor only smiled, stuttered
and stammered his excuses then
combed his hair in preparation for the
next round of selfies.
His roles have been varied as he
toured India, Europe and other foreign
countries but he has kept to the script,
difference.
Thank you to those who care enough
for their neighbours, communities and
families by standing up and saying
Respect and trust are earned, not a
given.
Thank you to those who earn it.
Perhaps some Special Area farmers
and ranchers are comfortable with
their surface rights income without
actual property rights and freedom to
determine land use themselves.
However, to others it must appear
that their surface rights income is
almost like blackmail in that their particular
land use can be withdrawn at
any time by the Minister or if someone
“reports” them to the Board.
Now is the time to move on this – to
employ our out-of-work energy sector
workers on a serious irrigation system
in the Drumheller-Stettler riding.
Now is the time to elect an
Independent with Legislative experience
who can pressure the
Conservatives to actually follow
through on their years of promises.
Now is the time for Special Areas
farmers and ranchers to accept the
challenges of freedom.
Pat Holloway
never deviating from the memorized
rhetoric.
In the last few months, critics who
judge the actor’s performance have
noticed cracks appearing in the mask.
The real Justin is beginning to come
into focus.
It is obvious he cares little about
women or veterans or indigenous
peoples.
It has only been a part he has sought
to play in order to be a “Star” on the
world stage.
There is an old saying that fame is
fleeting and probably fickle as well.
Actors come and go and are remembered
no more.
Are the spotlights fading and the
stage growing dim?
Is the production almost over and
will we, the audience, the Canadian
people, give a collective sigh of relief
when we see those longed for words
appear on the screen, “The End”?
Then and only then is there any
hope at all for the return of true
“sunny days.”
Oyen local pursuing rap music career
Terri Huxley
ECA Review
With a passion for influential sound,
Shane Kimber, also known as OGR-
Scintilla on stage, has decided to follow
his heart by pursuing a career in the
music industry.
Kimber comes from the unique area
of Oyen, Sedalia and Youngstown as he
grew up on a ranch near these centres.
He attributes much of his work ethic
and down to earth
nature to growing
up on the prairies.
“More than anything
by far,
growing up here
has taught me the
type of work ethic
that I think is
needed because
like I just don’t
take time off,”
Kimber began.
“My personal time
is work and that’s
why being on the
farm is nice
because I go out in
the morning and I
work until there is
a moment I can
slip away and then
I go work on music
until I fall asleep.
It’s because I love
to work and see a
job get done well
and without that there is absolutely no
way I would even see the relatively
small amount of success that I have
seen now.
“I’m really just thankful for how I
was raised and where I was raised
because I feel like it has given me the
character that I need to succeed.
“Knowing that I have that and the
support of my family and community, I
just know that it doesn’t matter if I
wanted to be a musician or a doctor or
professional athlete. I just know that
those things have me set up so well to
go out and accomplish what I want to
accomplish.
50,000 digital streams
OGR-Scintilla has racked up over
50,000 digital streams since he started
releasing music last summer.
His Youtube videos have also produced
approximately 40,000 views.
OGR-Scintilla stands for Overgrowth
Renaissance which was a label he
began with some friends while
Scintilla is another word for small
sparks. Many from Oyen thought the
‘OGR’ stood for Oyen’s Greatest
Rapper.
The country kid-turned-rapper takes
a vastly different approach to his line
of work.
He starts by composing his lyrics the
same way he would with country
music and aims to be positive compared
to the majority of hip-hop songs
in this day and age.
“It’s funny because people don’t
think of that right away but I like to
point out to people that when you look
at how I write my songs, a lot of them
are very much written as though they
are a country song or a folk song and I
definitely don’t get inspiration from the
content of hip hop.
“It’s an interesting thing I like to
take pride in my songwriting.”
Kimber is often known in Oyen as
the swimming instructor after
teaching lessons over the past five
years as well as being a student and
playing sports.
His passion for music became prevalent
when he was a 13-year-old student
in Youngstown School. During his time
there in Junior High, he took guitar
lessons.
Kimber (OGR-Scintilla)
He spent some time playing around
with different lyrics and chords before
diving into computer work to learn
more about musical production.
Last year, Kimber graduated from
the University of Alberta with a science
degree in Kinesiology and played
on the volleyball team at the
Augustana Campus in Camrose.
“As I moved off to university, I was
exposed to new music. Some of the
musicians and stuff a lot of people were
listening to were
rappers and I was
interested in how
much emphasis is
put on the lyrics
and song writing
in rap. That’s what
drew me in that
direction,” he said.
He was not
totally infatuated
with old school hip
hop but more so
with the artists of
today like Tyler
the Creator and
Childish Gambino
as he views them
as ‘different ducks’
which is something
he identifies
with. He also looks
up to Willie
Nelson, Frank
Sinatra, and Jim
Croce.
“I guess they
are just different ducks and they’re not
afraid to be themselves. To me, I am a
unique person and I have unique interests
and I really like that so I would say
I really enjoy hip hop, R&B, rap, all
sorts of genres sort of thing and I try to
incorporate all that stuff into my
music.”
Since that time, he has been back at
the ranch helping his father as well as
continually working on his music.
The new musician does all the
instrumentation for his work for himself
and others on top of singing and
rapping.
“I’m stubborn in the way that I like
to do things myself and that definitely
comes from the farm,” said Kimber. “I
just feel like I can do this better myself.
When you’re a farmer you have to be
good at everything right? You’re a
mechanic and a biologist and a doctor
and all of these things combined. I
guess that transferred into how I want
to do music.”
The 23-year-old has taken a moment
to analyze his goals to align with his
core values of happiness, peace, and
high energy.
One way he has been doing so is by
understanding how he can raise people’s
moods.
Strikes a balance
between happy and sad
“I’ve shifted my goals from what can
I do for myself and how many followers
I can get and stuff like that to – now
that some people are paying attention –
how can I put as much goodness out
into the world as possible basically,”
said Kimber.
This route did not always come from
a happy place in the beginning.
Much of his inspiration derives from
less than pleasurable experiences
which originally acted as a coping
mechanism but slowly became a way to
share positive sound to others.
During his year at Medicine Hat
College, he felt it was not a good year as
he continually struggled with anxiety
and other mental health issues.
Although he was playing for the volleyball
team there, the team was often
cliquey.
“I’m kind of an out there guy like I
don’t mind being a little goofy and
weird. They all wanted to be really
cool and they stuck into a pack. I would
say that music definitely brought me
through that time and in the past I
would say that I did not make happy
music.”
Kimber used music as an outlet to
get himself through those difficult
times.
“I would write sad songs about the
way I was feeling and it helped me
rationalize my thoughts and it helped
me get it all out there so I didn’t have to
just let it eat up inside of me.”
Throughout this process, he has felt
the call to helping others after how
much music helped him through dark
times.
There are songs that Kimber has
tucked away but he mentioned there
will be a time when some may be
released.
“It’s just basically me discovering
who I am as a person and all of those
songs were very much written for me
and now I feel like I’ve found who I am.
Now I am writing songs for other
Stark Choices for Voters:
#1 - Power to the Grassroots
or #2 - Pander to a Party?
Rick Strankman takes Oath of Office.
#1. For the Next 4 Years,
If You Want An MLA ...
• Who knows the people who vote and
live here are the collective BOSS
• Who takes direction from, and reports
to, the BOSS
• Who has lived through big parties
trampling members’ rights and enabling
their leaders to cascade tyranny from
the top
• Who has a lifetime of activism and
initiatives in pursuit of fairness,
justice and equality for Albertans and
Canadians
• Who is a direct democracy and
consensus government advocate willing
to put this Better Way Forward
under a bright Alberta spotlight
• Who understands the people who live
here have more and better ideas--and
are collectively smarter--than any level
of government
people because music has had such a
powerful impact on my life. Now I
almost feel like I need to give back and
give songs to people so that they can
relate and can get through what they
are going though.”
He strikes a balance between happy
and sad with his songs so many can
relate to the words. He hopes to help
others realize that depression and anxiety
are apart of your life’s journey.
“I would go as far as to say that
music saved my life. It gave me a purpose
in life.”
The sky’s the limit when it comes to
making it big in the business.
“I don’t really have a ceiling. I would
like to focus on becoming a solo artist
for awhile. I was doing more mixing
and production stuff but I want to be
big. I want to be massive and I want to
collect a following and get a voice that I
can then use to push some positive
messages out into the world because
you don’t see that very much. You see a
lot of people succeeding with very negative
messages and I don’t like that.”
#2. Or, if you
prefer this . . .
• An MLA who wants your vote every four
years but in between is fearful of retribution
for stepping outside of Party priorities or
contradicting a vindictive leader
• An MLA who thinks the Party leader is
the boss
• Inheriting another political party which
believes it is smarter than the real
BOSS—you and everyone who lives
here . . .
• An MLA’s Party whose idea of effective
public input depends on how many public
complaints they receive on a given issue
• An MLA’s Party which believes effective
grassroots engagement means five days a
month in constituency offices
• A Party which protects numerous
specimens of archaic status quo which
should have been improved and
modernized decades ago
Then Vote for
the other “Party” folks
