Up in smoke
How global warming and wildfires have affected
the growing of grapes in the B.C. wine region

The wildfires in B.C. made headlines
last summer, but for B.C.’s wine
industry, winemakers were concerned
with how smoke taint could potentially affect
their harvest this year.
Smoke taint is a major concern for
winemakers, and although the wildfires
ravaged a lot of B.C. crops, it didn’t seem to
affect the grapes too much for this year’s
harvest. In fact, according to winemakers in
the province, the harvest was a bit slow to
begin with, thanks to global warming.
