EXPERIENCE SNAPSHOT
SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC ANALYSIS
We undertook quantitative and qualitative
research in the Karamoja region of Uganda,
developing innovative proposals to address
risks and vulnerabilities across the lifecycle.
POLICY DEVELOPMENT
We’ve worked with many governments to
develop their policies on social protection,
including Bangladesh, Vietnam, Kenya,
Uganda, Rwanda and Lesotho. As a result, the
KENYA
policies better support the most vulnerable,
are gender- and disability-sensitive
and will have inceased impacts on poverty
and inequality.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN THE DESIGN
AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SOCIAL
PROTECTION PROGRAMMES
We have designed and supported the
implementation of a number of cash
transfer programmes, including Lao
PDR’s Graduation scheme, Uganda’s
Senior Citizens’ Grant, and a child
benefit in Angola.
We created a public portal
for the Single Registry
we designed for the
Government of
Kenya
Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda.
We designed Kenya’s Single Registry, an
innovative electronic warehouse bringing
together information on all of the country’s
social protection schemes, allowing better
co-ordination and monitoring.
RESEARCH
Recent research projects include: examining
social accountability within social protection;
identifying good practice in increasing the
inclusion of persons with disabilities in social
protection schemes; and the impacts of
graduation schemes.
TRAINING
We have provided many training courses
on social protection and poverty analysis,
including in Lao PDR, Nepal, Timor Leste,
Uganda, Indonesia, Rwanda and Kenya.
HUMANITARIAN AND REFUGEE
ASSISTANCE
Hunger Safety Net Programme, which has
developed innovative approaches to making
emergency payments to all households in
northern Kenya, when drought hits.
