2018 Year in Review
As the sun sets on 2018 and we steam head into 2019, we take a look back of just a few of the
projects the Facilities Department has undertaken over the past twelve months.
TEAM
DINER
During our
shutdown last
January, the
team diner
was
redecorated
by our
painting team.
At the end of February the UK was
hit by “The Beast from the East”, a
storm that covered the entire
country in snow.
The bathrooms
by Entertainment
Offices were
redecorated.
A new footpath
was laid leading
from the North
of Skyline and
past the Pub and
Kitchen
Contractors WPL arrived on resort to
transform Turners into the new Pub and
Kitchen.
OTHER
WORK
Funfair tech
continued
their Annual
inspection of
all rides;
The shop fronts on the Promenade
were repainted
Kone installed
the new lift in
Centre Stage;
Claymeg
refitted the
main kitchen.
From the Facilities Department

In March, the New Pub & Kitchen and it’s new
play area opened to guests for the first time.
In preparation for Spring
the Gardens team planted
over Three Thousand tulip
and Daffodil bulbs around
the resort ready for the
Easter break.
The plants were in flower
all across resort starting
from the funfair across to
Atlantic Bay.
20 square metres of
bark was delivered
for the Gardens Team
to put around the
borders in Oyster Bay.
Five sleepers outside the Beachcomber Inn
were replaced so they all matched.
Flowers from
the Bognor Resort
featured
on the Butlin’s
Twitter page.
Earlier in the year, Percy
(lovingly handmade by Glyn’s
mum) joined the Gardening
Team as their mascot.
New borders were planted
along the front of Atlantic
Bay to replace the old car
parking spaces that were
there.
The rope restraints outside
the front of Guest Catering
were replaced as the previous
ones were starting to look old
and worn.
All through the year, the Gardening
team work their way around
resort making everything look
bright, fresh and tidy.

Our Environmental Team do an amazing job around resort every single day.
Here are just a tiny handful of some of the projects they carried out last year.
Deep cleaning of venue carpets, including Hot Shots, Centre Stage, Reds, Bar Rosso & the Conference Centre.
MONDAY 28TH MAY saw one of the
wettest and stormiest bank holidays in
recent memory. The United Kingdom
had over 28 weather warnings and
there were 47 flood alerts in place and
we didn’t go unscathed.
In less than an hour, torrential rain
caused numerous areas around the
resort to flood and cause damage in an
extremely short amount of time.
Yet, every department and
every team member bandied
together to keep the resort operational
and to minimise the
direct impact to guests.
Under the watchful eye of the Scoop Cow, the red
road corridor was deep cleaned and tank
scrubbed.
Extensive cleaning was carried out on the Football Pitches.
The exterior cladding on Skyline was deep cleaned.

In the days that followed,
numerous jobs took place top
clear the damage which has
been caused, which included
replacing fallen ceiling tiles,
checking water logged plug
sockets and drying out various
venue carpets.
The carpets at the entrance to Centre Stage were particularly
affected. The Environmental Team were there every morning cleaning
them and ensuring fans were constantly on to dry them out.
Odorisers were also set up to reduce the smell of damp.
It was rainfall on a level unseen for many years and a challenge that
proved, as a Resort, we pull together and excel in a crisis.

At the beginning of the year, the walls and ceiling at the back of Hot Shots
was badly damaged due to a leak in the roof. With Gables having visited
Resort to repair the roof, the walls and ceiling have now been repaired.
Back in the summer, extensive
work was carried out to make
the Pottery Studio bigger, including:
• Walls at the back of the
studio were moved and remade,
a new door was also made and
fitted.
• New shelving for the display
areas and the storeroom
• New bench seating was
made and installed
• Lights were rewired so that
they are operated directly in the
Pottery Studio itself
Over the summer,
HM Golf was on resort
giving the Adventure
Golf a make-over
including:
New grass
Holes replaced
New wooden flooring
New fencing

#ButlinsGoesGreen
Every department on the Resort has a Green Team
Representative who will attend the Green Team meeting
every two weeks to discuss how we are doing and what we
can do to improve.
If you have any ideas about how we can become green and
how you can get involved please contact your Department
Representative.
Over the last few months, there has been a
number of electrical projects across various
areas with the intention of making the resort
more energy efficient. So far we have completed:
Bars Office
IT Office and Back Room
Leisure Hub Back of House
Human Resources
(Entrance & Cash Machine area)
Bars Training Room
Reds Entrance
Studio Offices
Hire Shop & Washing Machine Area
Namco
Ocean Drive Toilets
COFFEE CUPS
Just before Christmas a new recycling
bin was put in the Skyline for the
recycling of Coffee Cups.
It has been a big success so far and
during the previous breaks, the bin was
being emptied 3 or 4 times a day.
• Remove the lid and place it in General
Waste
• Remove sugar packets, stirrers, food,
napkins and left over liquid
• Stack your empty cup face down in
the stacking tube.
Alternatively reusable cups can be used

Halloween well and truly hit Butlin’s over the October Half
Term and planning and effort which was made was incredible.
There was late night fun in the Fairground as well scarily
transformed World of Wonders.

Rudolph the Red
Nosed Reindeer
Over the festive period, Rudolph
graced us with his presence outside
of the Fish and Chip restaurant.
In preparation for his visit, Paul
King replaced every single one of
his lights. Can you guess how many
lights were used?

We had just over 5000 guests
on resort for the New Years
Break. With guests in Reds,
Skyline and Centre Stage, team
had their work cut out when it
came to the aftermath.
