2019 19 Hajj: Seven en states es begin biometric tric capturing
•Lagos not yet ready for exercise
BY ISHOLA BALOGUN
THE biometric data cap
turing exercise for intending
pilgrims to 2019 Hajj has
kicked off in some states.
The states where the exercise
has kicked off are Kwara, Kaduna,
Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Zamfara
and Niger states. The exercise
is mandatory for the issuance
of visa for all intending pilgrims.
It will be recalled that
the exercise almost marred the
2018 hajj process last June-July
when the biometric data capturing
was delayed in most states
of the federation.
It was gathered that these are
states that have successfully
uploaded details of their registered
intending pilgrims on the
e-portal and have also completed
all other necessary requirements,
hence, they have taken
the lead in the mandatory biometric
data capturing.
Meanwhile, Lagos, according
to information was still battling
with registration and Medical
test on intending members. As
at press time, the official information
reaching Vanguard was
that lectures and enlightenment
programme of intending pilgrims
will begin on Sunday April
14 in each of the local government
areas of the state. A source
in the state Pilgrims Board said
the political development in the
state may not be unconnected
with the delay of hajj process in
the state. “Some of our programmes
may be delayed because
of the political development
in the state, untill May 29
when the baton will change, we
are not likely to sort out all the
major issues on the hajj process.”
Also, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo
and a few others are still battling
with registration of intending
pilgrims.
NAHCON commends
seven states on early preparation
Also, the National Hajj Commission,
NAHCON has commended
the seven states that
have advanced their processes
to the Biometric data capturing
stage, adding that early biometric
registration is essential to
forestall last minute rush, a situation
that could lead to panic.
In a statement signed by the
Head, Public Affairs Division of
the commission, Hajia Fatima
Sanda Usara, the Chairman/
Chief Executive Officer of NAH-
CON, Barrister Abdullahi
Mukhtar Muhammad, however,
expressed appreciation to the
Saudi Arabian Ambassador to
Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Adnan
Bostaji and the Kingdom’s
Consulate in Kano for facilitating
early commencement of the
biometric data registration.
April for inaugural lecture
for 2019 Hajj intending pilgrims.
GRA, Ikeja.
Ishola said that intending
pilgrims across the 20 local
governments and 37 local
council development areas
of the state have been invit-
acknowledged VHS Tasheel for
their preparedness in starting
the process immediately. He
commended the state boards
currently performing the exercise
for their cooperation.
Barrister Muhammad urged
other state pilgrims’ boards to
emulate those states that have
fulfilled all registration requirements
which enabled them to
begin the data-capturing programme
for their pilgrims. Early
biometric registration is essential
to forestall last minute
rush, forcing intending pilgrims
into panic mode.
He urged intending pilgrims to
complete their payments in order
to avoid delay and other
consequence of late payment.
“They must make their payments
in banks and thereafter
present the bank draft to their
respective boards. They must
also ensure that their correct details
are uploaded in the e-portal
after completing payment.
Lagos flags off weekend
lectures for intending pilgrims
ed to the lecture in order to
acquaint them with the dos and
don’ts of hajj and to enrich
them with the required knowledge
that will enable them to
perform acceptable hajj.
Ishola declared that the
lecture which will begin by
12 noon is compulsory for all
Lagos State intending pilgrims.
He also disclosed that the
lecture will provide the opportunity
for the pilgrims to
meet their coordinators and
other co-pilgrims for the
purpose of networking and
chatting the way forward for
the hajj exercise.
BARKA JUMAH
Doing good builds blessings
How right has life turned out to be that those who
do good infinitely triumph. And the wicked ever
wallow in sadness and the scourge of unending
misery. It's the goodness that we extend to humanity
that perfectly cobble together the broken pieces
of our faith. Doing good anchor itself to purpose
which eliminate greed and ignorance; but build
assured blessings. May Allah gift to each of us inner
peace and the amazing enchantment of salvation.
Happy Jumat.
