◆ In loving memory of Roderick ◆
This book is dedicated with love to Cameron and Lauryn.
I taught my kids that it’s okay to have feelings of sadness. They miss their father and I miss my
husband. But we don’t dwell in that place of sadness. Instead, we are joyful because we know
that a loved one being called home to begin their eternal life in Heaven... is nothing to be sad
about. Instead, it’s the beginning of the beautiful life that God intended for us all!
So instead of mourning a “loss”, we rejoice in his “promotion”.

This is Cameron.

This is Cameron’s family.

Cameron is a dreamer! He dreams of one day becoming a professional
wrestler, riding his favorite roller coasters, playing with his friends,

...even having a puppy. Cameron’s dreams are so vivid and colorful
that sometimes he even laughs and smiles while he’s sleeping!

One night, God gave Cameron a very special dream. God showed Cameron
what Heaven looks like! Since no one on earth really knows what it looks like in
Heaven, God used some of Cameron’s favorite things to give an example of just
how wonderful Heaven actually is.
In Cameron’s dream of Heaven, he saw streets made of gold. He also saw a lot
of children laughing and playing. He saw swimming pools and roller coasters.
He even saw cars that could fly with doors that looked like wings. In Cameron’s
dream, he even got to meet Jesus! Jesus wore a purple robe and was sitting
with lots of happy people. He looked really happy too and smiled as He gave
everyone great big hugs. Cameron liked that Jesus was friendly and saw that
He loved everyone.

Cameron was so excited about his special dream that he was
upset when he woke up. He didn’t want the Heaven dream to
end, and really wished he could go back to sleep to see more.

Cameron jumped out of his bed and ran to tell his mom
and dad ALL about what he’d seen in his dream.

A few months later, Cameron’s mom and
dad sat him down to talk. They looked
really sad. “What’s wrong?” Cameron asked.
“Well,” his dad began, “Something
happened to Granddad Burt, and last
night he died.” Cameron could see tears
coming down his mom’s and dad’s faces.

“Why are you sad?” Cameron asked. “Granddad Burt gets to be in Heaven! Don’t
you know how AWESOME Heaven is!”
Cameron’s mom and dad looked at each other, and then began to smile. “You’re
right!” they exclaimed, “Heaven is awesome and Granddad Burt gets to live
there now.”
Cameron smiled as he remembered his
dream and imagined his granddad
zooming around in Heaven in
one of those flying cars with
the cool wings that
he’d seen.

Months went by and sometimes Cameron would really miss his Granddad
Burt. But it always made Cameron feel better to think about his granddad
living in Heaven and how much fun he must be having. And that always
made him smile. Cameron continued to daydream about all the other
things he loved, like being a professional wrestler, playing with his friends,
and even having a puppy.

One day after school, Cameron’s mom said she needed to talk to him and his
sister Lauryn. His mom was smiling, but Cameron could tell something was
wrong. “Do you guys remember where Granddad Burt is?” his mom asked.
“Yes,” Cameron answered. “Where is he?” she asked. Cameron and Lauryn both
answered, “He’s in Heaven.” Cameron’s mom smiled a big smile and continued.
“Well, guess what? Today, God decided it was daddy’s turn to get to live in
Heaven. So daddy is in Heaven right now, laughing and having fun with
Granddad Burt!” Lauryn looked down at the ground and said, “But I’m going
to miss him.”

“I know.” Cameron’s mom replied. “We’re all going to miss him. And it’s okay
to be sad because we miss him. But daddy isn’t sad. And I bet Granddad Burt
is already showing him all around Heaven. Plus, Daddy is with Jesus who loves
him very much!”

Cameron sat silently for a while and then thought about his special dream of
Heaven. He remembered the roller coasters and the flying cars and the streets
made of gold. He also remembered how friendly Jesus was, and how He loved
all those people and was giving them great big hugs. Cameron imagined
his dad giving Jesus a hug too. He also imagined his dad getting into one of
those flying cars so he could race Granddad Burt all around Heaven. Cameron
wondered who would win and it made him smile.

Cameron’s mom gave him and his sister a big hug and told them that
everyone who believes in Jesus gets to go to Heaven. She also reminded
them that one day they’d all be together again in Heaven just like here
on earth.

A few days later, Cameron and Lauryn put on their favorite, most cheerful
clothes, which had lots of bright colors. Their mom had asked them to wear
something nice because they were going to a party with family and friends to
celebrate that his dad was “promoted” and now living in Heaven. She called it,
“Daddy’s Heaven Party.”

Cameron’s mom was right! Everyone at the
celebration wore bright, fun colors. And
people were smiling and laughing as they
listened to funny stories about Cameron’s
dad. Cameron even got to stand and see
all the people who’d come to the party.
They were all there to celebrate his dad’s
wonderful promotion and new home in
Heaven. Cameron thought it was really cool.

Cameron was reminded that
everyone who believes in Jesus and
accepts Him as their savior will one
day get to live in Heaven. And even
though he sometimes really misses
his dad and Granddad Burt, it makes
him feel better to know that they’re
happy and having fun in Heaven.

Cameron continues to be a dreamer. He dreams of being a professional
wrestler, riding roller coasters, playing with his friends… even having a
puppy. Cameron’s dreams are so vivid and colorful that sometimes he
even laughs and smiles while he’s sleeping. He smiles really big when
he dreams about his dad and Granddad Burt racing those flying
cars all around Heaven!
