Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this day possible. Thank you to the Israel Advocacy Committee for bringing Rick Recht to Naples to sing to us. What a great concert! Thank you to the Temple Shalom’s Men Club for donating the proceeds of the hot dog sales to the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples. The falafel, halvah, baklava and all the baked goods by Chef Dalia, MCA and WCA were delicious. Thank you to all the organizations that participated at this event. Karen Deutsch Campaign Chair IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU. You make everything we do possible, and you made it a record-breaking campaign year! As of March 31, the 2019 Annual Community Campaign hit a new record mark of $1,150,050. This accomplishment was made possible by YOU, our generous donors, by our amazing Volunteer Campaign Solicitors, and by the very dedicated and hardworking staff of the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples. Together, we made this the most successful campaign year to date. But wait, we still have work to do. Even though we have completed the “heavy lifting” of the campaign, which was a compressed four-and-a-halfmonth campaign from November 15, 2018, to March 31, 2019, the 2019 Annual Campaign does not officially close until June 30, 2019. This is the human component of the work Federation does that often is overlooked. Hearing the award winners share their stories made the day especially powerful. I am proud of what this community has achieved and the small part I have played. I look forward to building on these successes and getting involved on a deeper level. What an awesome and powerful finale to a very successful season.” “Kudos to you and your committee for a truly outstanding event. From the balloons on the ceiling, the beautiful tables, delicious food and the truly meaningful and remarkable program, it was one of our Federation’s best events ever.” Arlene Sobol, Event Committee Chair, welcomed the sold-out crowd of 270 guests, who were all going to enjoy a scrumptious buffet, the music of Bob Zottola’s Jazz Simpatico Trio, and inspiring speakers. Federation Board Chair Jane Schiff gave greetings and thanked our community partners, rabbis, patrons, committee members and YOU, our guests. The 2019 Annual Campaign video “RISE UP” was shown, showcasing some of the local and overseas beneficiary agencies, and depicting how YOUR gift to Federation makes a difference in people’s lives. Some of the agencies and programs featured in the video included: the Community-Wide Chanukah Celebration, Greater Naples Jewish Book Festival, Shop with a Sheriff, Holocaust Museum, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee- Ukraine, Ethiopian National Project, Chabad’s Preschool of the Arts, and Temple Shalom Preschool. It was very exciting when Campaign Chair Karen Deutsch announced that, to date, a record amount of $1,150,050 has been raised for the 2019 Annual Campaign. Karen gave special recognition to the campaign volunteers who help to make our goal achievable. Another highlight of the event included the presentation of three local awards funded by the Federation. Jeffrey Feld, Federation President & CEO, presented the Patricia J. Adkins Youth Leadership Award to Hannah Castro, a student at Gulf Coast High School. Along with the certificate, Hannah received a check to be used toward her higher education. The two other award recipients, Jacob Klein and Adam Mitrani, were at a BBYO convention and were not able to be at the brunch. Human Needs Award Committee Chair Judi Palay presented grants and certificates to two awardees: Bedz for Kidz and Laces of Love. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when hearing about the efforts and hard work these two grass-roots organizations do in order to meet the needs of less fortunate residents in the Greater Naples area. Beth Povlow, Stand Up for Justice Educator Grant Committee Chair, recognized the Stand Up for Justice Educators Awardees and handed out plaques, certificates and grants to six Collier County Public Schools. (See page 14 for more information about the awardees.) Jeffrey Feld closed the event by thanking everyone for their generosity and continued support of the mission of the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples. The Jazz Brunch was an inspiring, heartwarming and powerful way to celebrate a very successful campaign season. Adkins Youth Leadership Award Annual scholarships are given to honor the achievements of Collier County high school seniors who demonstrate leadership in their activities within their respective congregation and/or BBYO youth group. They are recognized for Hannah Castro and Jeffrey Feld their successful balancing of Jewish leadership, high school academics, athletics and clubs, and community service. This year’s award recipients: Hannah Castro, Jacob Klein and Adam Mitrani. Human Needs Award The Fund for Human Needs was established several years ago to recognize organizations for their generous spirit and service to the entire community. It is one more way that the members of the Jewish Federation of Greater Naples practice tikkun olam, “bettering the world.” The grants provide funds to help the selected organizations further their work in our community. The Human Needs Award Committee: Judi Palay, Awards Committee Chair, Betty Schwartz, JCRC Chair; Elissa Goldstein, Bill Kaye and Paul Rosofsky. Bedz for Kidz Cynthia Shafer, Founder A volunteer advocate may request a warm, cozy bed and bedding for a child in need of one’s own. For 20 years, Cynthia Shafer has served as a GAL volunteer advocate. In the course of her advocacy work, she recognized that caring people are sometimes willing to take in a vulnerable child, but they lack the resources to provide a bed. Laces of Love Jeanne Nealon and Susy Warren, Co-Founders The Laces of Love Charitable Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that provides new shoes to low-income and disadvantaged children.
