22 Federation Star May 2019 Magical Hadassah By Diane Schwartz, President, Collier/Lee Chapter of Hadassah What a special night it was on Sunday, April 7, when the Collier/Lee Chapter of Hadassah presented a tribute to its past presidents. Hadassah showcased “It’s Magical…A Tribute to Collier/Lee Hadassah Past Presidents” at Audubon Country Club. Eleven past presidents participated in the evening and were Linda Wertheim and Lee Henson, Co-VPs of Fundraising and event co-chairs recognized for service, leadership and dedication to Hadassah’s mission and work. Proceeds benefited the Hadassah 360 Degrees of Healing Full Circle Campaign. This year, as one of its several projects, the Chapter is working to raise $18,000 to support and name a fully-equipped single-patient room in the iconic Round Building in the Ein Karem campus, Jerusalem home of the renowned Chagall windows. Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) supports two hospitals in Jerusalem and handles one million admissions each year, treating patients regardless of race, religion or nationality. HMO is known worldwide for its research in stem cell and neurodegenerative diseases. Keith Raygor wowed the room with tableside and stage craft magic, mind-reading and music. Attendees are still trying to determine, “How did he do that?” Donations to Hadassah for the 360 Campaign are still being accepted. COMMUNITY FOCUS May 2019 Federation Star The festival of Purim: a sweet celebration at The Terraces at Bonita Springs BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. (March 20, 2019) – On March 19, residents at The Terraces at Bonita Springs gathered to bake more than 80 hamentashen pastries in preparation for the festival of Purim beginning on March 20. Seven residents of the luxury senior community enjoyed the warmth and camaraderie of baking together in the community kitchen, sharing family stories and anecdotes of holidays past. This was the sixth year of the “hamentashen baking,” which is followed the next day by a reading of the Megillah and a full-scale Purim celebration. Mindee Weber, a concierge at The Terraces, facilitates both the baking and religious aspects of Purim and Passover for the community. “This is always so special for the residents and for me,” said Ms. Weber. “So many of us do not have local family members to celebrate with. Baking together and enjoying each other here at The Terraces gives us the feeling of being with family. An extra special component is that not everyone participating is Jewish.
