Martin Becker is one of the „shooting<br />

stars“ of the German customizing<br />

scene. His clean and sometimes extreme<br />

custom projects have caught<br />

the eye of the Custom Chrome Europe<br />

team not just since his CUSTOM-<br />

BIKE 2<strong>01</strong>6 „Build-off“ winning bike<br />

„Murder One“, a tribute to Motörhead<br />

and Lemmy Kilmister. MB-Cycles is<br />

not limited to modify Harley-Davidsons,<br />

which is another „plus“ on his<br />

list – and his bikes, as radical as they<br />

often seem, are great „riders“. Which<br />

is definitely a major point on the „to<br />

do list“ of CCE‘s 2<strong>01</strong>8 Bolt On And<br />

Ride bikes. Martin is usually not the<br />

„bolt on“ type of customizer, so it<br />

took some convincing to talk him into<br />

building his first CCE bike. But then,<br />

CCE let the leash hang loose, so there<br />

was enough freedom for him to create<br />

what he can do best: Build a stunning<br />

street machine for the road!<br />

If you look at a map of Germany, in particular<br />

the area around Heidelberg and the Rhine<br />

river valley, you will find a lot of well-known<br />

names of German customizers that have<br />

made it into the „who is who“ of German customizing.<br />

Martin Becker of MB-Cycles yet<br />

has to make his way into the international<br />

headlines, but in Germany, he has already<br />

achieved a „cult“ status. CCE‘s choice for<br />

building this year´s CCE „Bolt On And Ride“<br />

Softail did not come as a surprise – but while<br />

the „... and Ride“ part of the sentence fits<br />

MB‘s attitude perfectly, the first two words are<br />

not really his world.<br />

If there is one slogan that characterizes his<br />

bikes, it rather would be „Bolt OFF And Ride“,<br />

many of Martin‘s creations are defined by the<br />

„minimisation“ of components, eliminating<br />

everything unnecessary for riding the bastard.<br />

The clean look is achieved by removing everything<br />

dispensable – and NOT replacing it by<br />

other components. But his passion for „clean<br />

look“ also attracts the attention of everybody<br />

who passes his creations – including the Custom<br />

Chrome Europe team.<br />

the FLSTC „Heritage Softail Classic“. The<br />

plushy floorboard equipped touring version of<br />

the Softail Twin Cam, a solid cornerstone of<br />

the Harley-Davidson model line for decades,<br />

is likely to be his „nightmare“ when it comes<br />

to customization – because almost every part<br />

of this bike had to be exchanged! Which he<br />

did ...<br />

the new task. Softail fender by Easyriders Japan fits<br />

tight to the rear wheel.<br />

The „Bolt Off...“ part of this build was ruthless:<br />

Everything but frame, swingarm and engine<br />

was dismantled and disposed. There it was: A<br />

naked (unrolling) chassis and the drive train,<br />

ready to be reborn in modern „New School“<br />

interpretation, ready to rock the road. Martin<br />

took the same approach as on his famed<br />

„Murder One“, de-radicalizing the theme to a<br />

more replicable concept that could be aprehended<br />

by other customizers – there is no<br />

question that CCE‘s intention is to sell parts,<br />

but inspiring bikes do the job much better<br />

than any product news. The parts list of this<br />

project is long, very long and VERY detailled.<br />

The restyling of the rolling chassis started<br />

with the wheels: RevTech‘s „Nitro“ design at<br />

the front end and a “RevPro” full disc wheel<br />

at the rear were asking for a modified sus-

pension front and rear to achieve the desired<br />

low riding position. A Progressive Suspension<br />

lowering kit does the job at the rear while<br />

the bigger 21 inch diameter at the front called<br />

for shortened fork tubes in combination<br />

with raked Arlen Ness triple trees. Completely<br />

exchanged brake system featuring Wilwood<br />

rotors and Performance Machine „Black Ops“<br />

calipers with all accompanying components

add another dozen positions on the list. The<br />

front fork is modified from the stock part but<br />

equipped with stronger Eibach „Heavy Duty“<br />

springs and a Daytona Japan steering dampener<br />

has been added. Downtube covers<br />

are the stock parts, only painted black. The<br />

small fairing around CCE‘s 5 3/4‘‘ Bates Style<br />

headlight is Cult-Werk‘s V-Rod front mask kit,<br />

adapted and modified for the task by MB-Cycles.<br />

The tank is one of those parts that show the<br />

magic „MB touch“, which is rather a „no show“<br />

in this case. Of course, the stock two tank<br />

halves were swapped – for a one-piece „Fat<br />

Bob“ fuel reservoir. But that wasn‘t the end:<br />

Lowered by and fitted with a weld-in fuel cap<br />

by „Blechfee“, the Fat Bob reservoir also had<br />

to be equipped with a Sportster type fuel pump<br />

and adapted for the Softail frame. Which needed<br />

the re-routing of the speedo to a motogadget<br />

unit in the fairing and re-configuration<br />

of the injection system and electronic equipment<br />

under the tank. With the seat much lower<br />

than stock and the modified Easyriders Japan<br />

„Extreme Smooth“ tailend, there was little

„Bolt On“ idea are adapted in a spectacular fashion.<br />

place elsewhere to pack essential injection<br />

and other electric components, so they had to<br />

fit under the flat tank. Adding up the worktime<br />

of tank and sheet metal parts, you may get<br />

a second hand motorbike for the worktime.<br />

Looking at the fender, the remarkable fact is<br />

the absence of tail/brakelight, which are now<br />

situated in the Kellermann „Atto“ indicators.<br />

Even though they are „doubled“, means two<br />

indicators on each flank, they are almost invisible!<br />

The „Atto“ indicators are a marvel of<br />

modern day LED technology – and they are<br />

LEGAL! You HAVE to write that in big letters,<br />

because if you see them you wouldn‘t believe<br />

it! While the brightness of the LEDs is undisputed,<br />

the chances that clothing or dirt from<br />

the road may hide them is always worth to<br />

check them when mounting the ride. Not only<br />

during night rides, your life may depend on<br />

Seating position is much different to the relaxed<br />

touring ride of the original Heritage<br />

Softail Classic, but the original floorboard<br />

position allowed a mid mount combination of<br />

the Easyriders Japan „Mid Control Kit“ with<br />

Joker Machine serrated footpegs, offering the

With the rear end set rigid, the fender is sitting just above the rear disc wheel.

aggressive look wanted. To adjust the<br />

height on both sides, Martin developed<br />

and machined his own adapter for the<br />

right mounting bracket. The riding position<br />

does prefer smaller sized people,<br />

riding position is „Dragstyle“. No doubt<br />

about that!<br />

The early 96 Cubic Inch Twin Cam of<br />

2008 is not really „the burner“ to race<br />

on the next dragstrip, but better than<br />

the original 88 and by far more powerful<br />

than the Evolution motor. Engine<br />

upgrades for this project are predominantely<br />

of optical nature, as the covers<br />

were swapped for Roland Sands Design<br />

covers on the Rocker boxes and<br />

clear Cam Cover.<br />

The primary cover on the left side is a<br />

new EMD prototype part, reminiscent<br />

of the 1936 Knucklehead primary –<br />

now already in production and in stock<br />

at Custom Chrome Europe in different<br />

versions in black and bare aluminum.<br />

You may look for the EMD „B-Boy“ primary<br />

covers. On the right motor side,<br />

Joker Machine‘s „Omega“ air filter offers<br />

a perfect match to the finned RSD<br />

parts – and the exhaust system is a<br />

new combination of BSL prototype pipes<br />

with a homologated Dr. Jekill & Mr.<br />

Hyde muffler system. „Homologated“ in<br />

this case partially, since the muffler comes<br />

from Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde‘s BMW<br />

parts program. But knowing the quite<br />

active Dutch manufacturer, it won‘t be<br />

long ‚till this setup will be Harley-conform<br />

too.<br />

There is much more in this project than<br />

what is visible on photos, limited to two<br />

dimensions. Check out the pushbuttons<br />

in the triple trees and minimized<br />

pushbutton switches on the handlebars.<br />

Note the clever re-routing of<br />

cables to hide them from view where<br />

ever possible. Every detail on this bike<br />

is carefully executed and built to perfection.<br />

And all components have been<br />

homologated. No doubt that this is one<br />

„Bolt On And Ride“ bike that will see<br />

extensive use in the coming months<br />

– and the first ride-out at Mecrin‘s Old<br />

School Swap Meet and <strong>Bike</strong> Show underlined<br />

the „hard riding“ capabilities of<br />

Marin Becker‘s creation. This ain‘t no<br />

machine for the faint-hearted – this is a<br />

hardcore ride!<br />

And Ride“ spring tour into Lorraine.<br />

Almost every year, CCE‘s „Bolt On And Ride“ bikes are ridden<br />

and photographed in the scenic landscapes all over Europe. The<br />

School Bar Atelier Swap Meet and <strong>Bike</strong> Show has always been a<br />

season opener for many <strong>BOAR</strong> bikes, thanks to the great roads and<br />

landscapes that stretches between the rivers Moselle and Meuse.<br />

Historic castles, quiet roads and the ever present battlefields of<br />

the „Great War“, now 100 years in the past have left an almost forgotten<br />

landscape which offers scenic country roads through open<br />

fields and into towns where time has stood still. MOTOGRAPHER<br />

Horst Roesler takes you through hidden paths and great rides that<br />

show historic places long forgotten. Plus the very much alive custom<br />

scene of the Meuse and Moselle valleys, which host several<br />

great events every summer season.

The first photoshoot was performed before the bike was<br />

delivered to Custom Chrome Europe and took place in<br />

an industrial hall somewhere around Heidelberg/Germany,<br />

home of MB-Cycles.<br />

Great shooting location, superb light distribution make<br />

this shoot a great option for the magazines. The angle<br />

and details shots offer the most important details of the<br />

then brandnew custom motorcycle. Shown are a few examples<br />

Custom Chrome Europe‘s 2<strong>01</strong>8 Top Cover Custombikes...<br />

“Bolt On And Ride” again rides into the 2<strong>01</strong>8 season! As in previous<br />

years, Custom Chrome Europe has commissioned a complete new lineup<br />

of „BOLT ON AND RIDE“ motorcycles that range from Sportster to<br />

the most current „Milwaukee Eight“ Harley-Davidson model lines. Studio,<br />

outdoor and riding images are made and continuously updated during<br />

the season!<br />

„The <strong>Fusion</strong>“ was created from a very unlikely source, as the basic bike<br />

once rolled from the Harley-Davidson production line as a „Heritage<br />

Softail“, the only part to be recognizable from that the chrome plated<br />

oil tank. Despite the „Bolt On“ approach, Martin Becker used his superb<br />

skills to create an outstanding „Dragstyle“ Lowrider that utilizes many<br />

RSB parts and the prototype of EMD‘s new primary covers. Especially<br />

the tank is an outstanding work of sheet metal adaption, for which Becker<br />

has become famous.<br />

As during the last decade, the 2<strong>01</strong>8 „BOLT ON AND RIDE“ motorcycles<br />

are not only ridden by CCE staff but also by you, the press – check in<br />
