CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED JOE’S
When Eskimo Joe’s opened in the summer of
1975, it was just a crazy idea of a couple of OSU
grads. Founder, Stan Clark remembers, “My
friend Steve File said, ‘Hey Clark, I’m gonna
open a bar, you want to go in on it?’” Later that
day the pair signed a lease on the building and by
mid July, that crazy idea was jumpin’! The chairs
were crazy because, “none of them matched,”
says Clark. “We were so grateful that folks came
in. We did everything we could to show them a
great time and great service.”
Was it crazy in ‘92 to add a retractable
dome-roof, made to resemble an igloo? Maybe!
“But we were replacing an open air wooden deck
and wanted to keep that under the stars feeling it
had,” says Stan. The next year craziness really
broke loose when thousands filled two blocks of
Elm Street celebrating Eskimo Joe’s 18th
anniversary!
Much has changed in 44 years
about the appearance of the
little stone building that opened
in 1975. The idea of a great
big smile, the spirit of
excellent service, and
delighting every guest has
stayed the same! Forty-four

Eskimo Joe’s Clothes World Headquarters
in Stillwater, there is a good chance the call is
coming from far away. Jenny has been the
friendly voice on the line for 29 years at
Eskimo Joe’s Clothes. Her loyal customers,
who Jenny considers good friends, call from
all over the country. Most of the time they

T-shirt might shrink, but she’s also talked
with callers about their grandkids or pets,
and she’s even helped out with what they
might cook for dinner tonight!

In a simpler time, a sports star
from Bethany, Allie P. Reynolds,
came to Oklahoma A&M to
throw the javelin. The baseball
coach, Henry Iba, (yes, that Iba)
watched him launch the javelin
and brought him in to throw
batting practice for his baseball
team. Soon Allie was starting on
the mound for Oklahoma A&M,
pitching three seasons before
going pro. He starred with the
World Champ Yankees, and in 1951,
he became the first American League
pitcher to throw two no-hitters in the
same season. Allie P. Reynolds Stadium,
opened back in 1981 (when stadiums were
still named after sports heroes), will see its
last at-bat this season. Great players, coaches,
and seasons made the perfect green grass of
“Allie P.” a legendary field of orange dreams.

yes, a rescue. “It’s not unusual to find a
purebred dog at the shelter,” says Jackie
Ross-Guerrero, Director of the Stillwater
Humane Society. “They get left behind just
like mixed breed dogs.” Jake was one lucky
dog the day Laura and Roger Demaree were
introduced to him through Sooner Golden
Rescue in Tulsa. “When he wagged his tail
and gave us a big smile, we knew he was the
one for us!” Laura said. Partial proceeds
from our Rescue Pet tee go to the Humane
Societies of Stillwater and Tulsa, helping
shelter animals like Jake find FURever homes.
