The Piazza The place where emotions come alive Is it possible to design a ship that symbolises Italian hospitality, Italian style and Italian beauty? This project to encapsulate “Italy’s finest” is the result of the professional sensibility, the training, and the experiences from time spent studying in Italy of Adam D. Tihany, the world-famous designer. A team consisting of the very best architects and designers worked on the concepts of: pride, attitude, good taste, time and style. These five founding pillars gave shape to the creative concept and were joined by another concept, an Italy where reality and fantasy live side by side in the same country. Tihany then selected a group of prestigious international and Italian architects to develop the idea. They included Partner Ship Design from Hamburg, Dordoni Architetti from Milan and Rockwell and Jeffrey Beers from New York Each one developed the basic concept, adapting it to a specific part of the ship, in accordance with their skills, their experience and their own sensibilities. Then some of the most prestigious Italian brands in the field of interior décor became involved, to offer the team the very best Italian-made items. This is how <strong>Costa</strong> <strong>Smeralda</strong> was created: the result of the challenge to tell the story of Italian beauty on a cruise ship. The secret was to start with Italy’s most typical settings, from the architectural places that embody and reflect the Italian lifestyle, where people go people watching, drink aperitifs, have a chat, eat mouthwatering snacks, spend some time shopping, but above all spend fun times together, and, all this can only happen in the most traditional of Italian places: the piazza.
