Support <strong>Kidney</strong> Care UK<br />
We are proud that in 2018 more than 3,500 individuals, groups or companies chose to<br />
support <strong>Kidney</strong> Care UK with a donation or fundraising event. We are incredibly grateful<br />
for this support, and that of everyone who supports us with their time, knowledge,<br />
contacts, profession or simply by talking about kidney disease and the charity.<br />
What amazes us even more is the range of ways you show<br />
your support. You will have seen our regular thank-you column<br />
(opposite) that shows some of the fantastic ways in which you<br />
choose to support kidney patients and their families. But we<br />
wanted to share another example - from Ian Exton.<br />
Ian, who has chronic kidney disease (CKD), turned his<br />
participation in a research study into a fundraiser for <strong>Kidney</strong><br />
Care UK. Ian’s participation in the study saw him spending<br />
up to three hours a week cycling on a static bike while<br />
undergoing haemodialysis at Kettering Renal Unit. During<br />
his first session on the bike, Ian decided to raise money for<br />
<strong>Kidney</strong> Care UK by challenging himself to pedalling the length<br />
of the Tour of Britain - a staggering 1,126km!<br />
Since his first session, Ian has been able to regularly increase<br />
the duration and resistance level and says that the exercise<br />
has had a notable effect on his health. He said: “It’s the first<br />
time I’ve taken part in a research study. But as soon as I<br />
found out that I’d be on a bike I realised I could help with<br />
research and raise money for a good cause at the same time.<br />
It’s been a really positive experience for me. Since I started<br />
taking part I’ve seen my fitness improve, and being able to try<br />
and improve week-on-week definitely keeps me motivated.”<br />
Ian has finished his participation in the study now and has<br />
raised nearly £500 completing<br />
his cycling challenge. We’re<br />
touched that Ian has used this<br />
opportunity to raise money<br />
for <strong>Kidney</strong> Care UK and it’s<br />
wonderful to know that he has<br />
also seen an improvement in his<br />
health in the process.<br />

Become a #<strong>Kidney</strong>Warrior<br />
Tough Mudder<br />
We’re looking for individuals and teams brave enough<br />
to take on the Tough Mudder Challenge. There’s a<br />
range of distances, locations and dates for you to<br />
choose from. So round up your friends and colleagues<br />
and take on this world famous, very muddy obstacle<br />
course in support of <strong>Kidney</strong> Care UK.<br />
Skydiving<br />
Join our team of skydivers at Honington Airfield (Oxford) on<br />
Sat 5 October. This special one-day skydive will see a team<br />
of <strong>Kidney</strong> Care UK supporters accelerating to more than<br />
120 mph as you jump from more than 10,000 ft.<br />
