Samuel L. Lewis, 24,
of 2301 Winsor Lane in
Country Club Hills, was
charged April 12 with three
felony counts of forgery,
as well as a misdemeanor
charge of resisting a police
officer, after he allegedly
used fake $100 bills to
purchase products at three
stores at Orland Square.
He reportedly tried to
pass two counterfeit $100
bills at a store for the purchase
of headphones valued
at $246.88, with real
cash paid for the remainder
of the bill. He fled an
officer who tried to stop
him there but was found
hiding under a vehicle in
the parking lot, police said.
Police found merchandise
he dumped along the way
and traced it back to two
other stores at the mall, according
to the report.
At one store, police
discovered he used five
counterfeit $100 bills to
pay a bill of $548.75 for
three pairs of shoes, using
genuine money for the remainder,
according to the
report. At another store,
he used four counterfeit
$100 bills on a purchase
of $398.89, then at the
same store made another
purchase of $17.55 with
another fake $100 bill, police
said. There, he reportedly
bought six jerseys,
two shirts, two blazers and
pants.
The fake $100 bills featured
the likeness of Alexander
Hamilton, rather
than Benjamin Franklin,
according to police.
• Theresa M. Gountounas,
52, of 17555 Jennifer
Drive in Orland Park, was
charged with driving under
the influence of alcohol
and failure to reduce speed
to avoid a collision after
she allegedly struck a 2012
lyft
company’s service animal
policy, which states when it
comes to services animals,
driver’s should “Always
Say Yes.” to comply with
the company’s policy, even
if they are allergic, afraid
or have some type of objection
to the animals. It further
explains why service
dogs might be needed, and
though Greenan has proof
of his need, the company
says riders don’t need it. It
further notes drivers who
refuse riders with services
animals “could face immediate
and permanent deactivation
if an investigation
into the alleged denial verifies
a wrongful denial.”
When asked about the incident
Greenan reported, in
particular, Lyft issued the
following statement.
“We are committed to
fostering a welcoming and
inclusive community and
discrimination of any kind
is simply unacceptable. We
have permanently removed
the driver from our community
and spoken with
the passenger to offer our
support.”
Greenan said he was
unaware of any further response
but was refunded
for the ride. And while he
knows both Lyft and its
competitors have policies
mandating drivers take service
animals with riders,
Cadillac SRX from behind
while driving a 2015
Honda CR-V at the intersection
of 153rd Street and
108th Avenue.
The SRX was stopped at a
red light at the intersection
when it was struck from behind,
police said. Gountounas
was slurring her words,
had an odor of alcoholic
beverage on her breath,
trouble with balance, and
bloodshot red and glassy
eyes, according the report.
She attempted field sobriety
tests and was arrested
after them, police said. She
reportedly did not provide a
breath sample.
Editor’s note: The Orland
Park Prairie’s police reports
come from the Orland Park
Police Department. Anyone
listed in these reports is considered
to be innocent of all
charges until proven guilty in
a court of law.
problems persist.
He said he personally had
two instances last summer
in which he put in for a ride,
was standing on the street
and watched the rideshare
driver pull away after spotting
the dog, only to cancel
the ride in the app shortly
thereafter. He knows veterans
who he said have experienced
the same.
“It’s just not right,” he
said. “Every time I call for
a Lyft, I’m stressed out,
wondering if I’m going to
go through this again. It
doesn’t happen all the time,
but it does happen.”
The Orland Park Prairie
was not able to make contact
with the driver as of
press time.
