Hope this newsletter find everyone well.
The most recent Community Council meeting took place on Tuesday 7 th May, this
was well attended by members of the public, local Councillors and representatives
from Hare Craig Wind Farm. Also at the meeting were representatives from the
organisations (SERS, East Ayrshire Council and AC Whyte) involved in the current
rendering programme within the village. At the meeting these organisations made a
very kind offer of assistance / support to the local groups within the village, we
discussed the possibility of more bedding plants and having our own litter pick
equipment at the meeting, if there is any other requirements please let us know.
The next meeting ( AGM )is due to take place on Monday 3 rd June, 7pm within the
Community Wing, please come along, everyone is welcome. Along with the
meetings we also have our Facebook page where we post regular updates and
information.
As we head into our summer months there are lots of great activities planned, we
will advertise these where possible – here’s hoping we get some dry, if not sunny
weather to enjoy our beautiful village.
We have been fortunate again this month for the News to be supported by various
local business’, with their continued support we are able to deliver the news free of
charge to the households within the village, the amount of houses we deliver to is
continuing to increase, again if you would like the News delivered to your door,
Muirkirk Juniors FC
28.04.19;
After going up 1-0 with a goal from Michael Howie in the opening minutes and dominating
the early stages Kirk fell apart losing three goals in a 6 minute spell goals which were the
result of sloppy defending. This to be fair has not been the norm this season. Annbank
continued to dominate the play and ended up worthy winners by five goals to two. Kirk’s
other goal was scored by Niall Carslaw.
Lotto
27.4.19 jackpot not won now stands at £2650 with a reserve jackpot of £650. Nobody had 3
numbers so three numbers share £60 this week. Support The Juniors join our lotto.
21.04.19;
Kirk succumbed to promotion chasing Lesmahagow 2-0 at Burnside Park on Saturday which
leaves any chance of promotion very difficult. The sides went in level at half time thanks to a
penalty save by Kirk stopper Nathan Bogle. The Gow took full advantage of two mistakes by
the defence to wrap up the points.
MEG REPORT
MEG are pleased to announce that the new facility at the HUB will be
available for visiting on the day of the Muirkirk Gala Day. Please come along
for a chance to view the new facilities including the brand new Gym
equipment. On the subject of then Gala Day, MEG have agreed to make a
donation of £250 towards the cost of the Gala Day itself.
On the subject of the Gym, it is hoped that we can find a self-sustaining
group of Gym users who will help run the new fitness suite and we invite
them to make contact with MEG as soon as is practical.
I would also to extend a big thank you to all the members of the MEG group
who have worked very hard this year to help secure significant Participatory
Budgeting funding for Muirkirk, to help in the securing of the new Muirkirk
Hub facility and who have worked tirelessly to help overcome the snagging
problems at the same new facility. Finally an extra special thanks to all the
volunteers at the shop, as without their efforts none of the above would be
possible. To help put the efforts of the volunteers in perspective, it is their
vital work in fund raising that helps raise the £2500 a year that is needed just
to maintain and insure the Skateboard Park, and this is only one of many
projects and facilities that their tireless work at the shop supports and
maintains.
Muirkirk Teacher’s Vietnam Appeal
An inspiring Muirkirk teacher is looking for help to get the children in her
class some badly needed supplies.
Lauren Bone has been teaching in Vietnam for seven months and loves the
Country and the people but has seen first hand how a lot of families struggle
with poverty. Families of up to eight living in one room where they all have
to eat and sleep.
She has a vision of putting on free English classes to help the locals with
their careers, businesses and help to develop tourism. To get the classes up
and running Lauren is asking for help to buy learning books, pens, and other
vital supplies with a view to teaching children and adults to enable them to
get out of poverty. Lauren commented that she wants to fundraise as The
Country has given her so much and she wants to give something in return.
Conditions in Da Nang which is close to where Lauren lives vary widely
depending on where you stay with the inner city being more affluent and the
outer areas suffering extreme poverty.
Having a dad in the army Lauren is no stranger to travel but has always
dreamed of going there since she was young and after making the trip she is
enjoying the culture and being a teacher. My whole family is from Muirkirk
but my dad was in the army until I was fifteen so travelling and meeting new
people and seeing different cultures is second nature to me.
One of the most striking feature of the people is even though they have
nothing they don’t complain and are always smiling and happy.
The children and adults have a huge hunger for learning and are really keen to
learn English as they see it as a means of getting out of the poverty trap.
The children don’t have much in the way of material things but they do not
let this stop them from enjoying themselves. They spend most of their time
outdoors on bikes with no seats, kicking deflated balls and are happy to play
with their friends and family.
To help Lauren with her vision you can donate on her GoFundMe page.
EAST AYRSHIRE CAR CLUB
Following the success of last year’s Kames Classic Car Show at Muirkirk, East
Ayrshire Car Club report plans are well advanced for their 2019 gathering on Sunday
June 9th. Last year the Club attracted a number of outstanding exhibits and their
efforts were appreciated by the large number of spectators who attended from all
over the West of Scotland and beyond.
Typical of the quality of vehicles on display last year was a Ford GT40 and next
month it is hoped that high standard will be maintained. However the show is not
only for exotic machines and the Club are keen to encourage proud owners of more
modest machines to put them in front of other enthusiasts, as long as they are of an
acceptable standard of presentation and are interesting or unusual. To make this
more attractive to Classic car owners, there will be no entry fee but entries must be
lodged with the Club by the official closing date of May 25 th after which the
Club may in special circumstances consider late entries but these will not be judged.
Entries can be made online at
https://www.rallies.info/webentry/2018/eacc/classiccarshow/webentry.bhp
where details of the various classes are shown.
Kames Sprints May 11 th & 12 th 2019
Louise Calder may have missed the two sprints at Kames in April due to family
commitments but she certainly made her mark on both May rounds of the 2019
Guyson Scottish Sprint Championship at the Muirkirk track. The driving starlet from
Thurso took over three seconds off the field on Saturday in her 1040cc Jedi racing
car but had her superiority reduced to 0.49 of a second on Sunday’s competition
when the anticlockwise course was used.
Yet again the experts were confounded at the maturity, speed and finesse of the
youngster as she slid through the tight Kames corners as though they didn’t exist, a
performance which drew applause from the gallery.
Runner-up on Saturday was Lindsay Robertson from Kirriemuir in his Radical racing
car, a mere 0.09 of a second faster than the Westfield sports car of Bill Lambie from
Caithness.
The driver mounting the top challenge on Sunday was Charlie Fraser from Portlethan
in his Spire GT3 racing car who pushed Aberdeen doctor Paul Rhodes in an OMS
Hornet singleseater into third spot.
Martin Palmer in an MG ZR competed in April and returned to the fray at the
weekend, promising to return in late July. He moved from England many years ago
and now lives in Stornoway.
The best contest came in the Mazda MX5 class where the first ten places were
covered by a blanket of just two seconds – on both days! Ross Glen from
Dumbarton won on the opening day but he had to set a new MX5 record to do so
and had to settle for third.
