ARCHITECTURAL PORTFOLIO SELECTED MATERIAL _ 2016 - 2019

Mexican Architect by Tecnológico
de Monterrey, Campus Querétaro.
I believe that the future of the world and
architecture are aimed at sustainable
design and ecological construction. We
need to start seeing and living the world
as archiculture not only as architercture.
Cultural Center Mexico_ Chicago
CONSULATE + CULTURAL CENTER + PLAZA
Location: Chicago Illinois, E Chestnut Street
Year : 2017
Area :
Status :
1’100 sq. m
Project
Colaboration : Arq. Agustín Pacheco Chavez
Arq. David Alejandro Adame
_ Successfully join some elements of mexican
architecture to the architectonic sclae of Chicago,
with the creation of a space which makes you
have a sense of belonging to mexican culture.
_ The program looks to improve mexico’simage
worldwide, so other countries can have a better
understanding of our country through culture and
arts, the support to mexican culture industries and
creation of spaces that allow the interaction between
cultural creators and promotors from both countries.
05

_ The separation between volumes creates a central
plaza, it functions as a node, distributing people
through the buildings, besides having a free plant built
on pilotis on the access level and plaza that makes
our project being permeable to it’s environment.
_ Each level has visual contact to the plaza
and a view to “The Windy City”, we have only
one vertical circulation to the consulate and the
cultural center, we want to imply that culture, arts
and people are the ones whom create a nation.
06

_ We opt for a vertical development for the proyect
to propitiate density and interaction between levels
and to have a bigger free plant to create a public plaza.
_ As a premise for the consulate, we decided
to elevate the building in pilotis , minimizing the
invation in foreign soil, respecting the pedestrian
flux connecting the streets Chestnut and Delaware.
_ Imagine for a moment that the housing needs
of each family are a gap in this children’s game, we
could observe that each gap is different and that
only a figure could go through them.
10

_ We must accept that the average family does
not exist and that we do not know how the
family will grow and when it will stop growing.
The house can start with one person, or
two. But there are always situations like
working from home, having children, family
members that affect family dynamics.
_ The project offers a model of assisted selfproduction
where modularity allows users to
develop housing growth according their needs.
These growths occur in the
upper floor to free lateral patio.
11

_ One of the main problems of social housing is
that when a model of house is repeated by miles,
the community loses ti’s identity as individuals.
_ The multiple use patio allows each member
of the home to appropiate of the space in a
different way in different times; the activities can
be viewed from inside the house and also from
the street, this interaction, creates community.
isometrico de sitio
_ With the growth option in the
upper part of the project, we promote
the conservation of the patio.
12

_ We divided the lot in two, in one half we have
the Patio area and in the other half we have our
architectural program, which at the same time is
divided in three modules that are the bathroom
and dressing room, living room, dining room and
the kitchen.
_ This allows the house to be a free plan, having
no walls and becoming a permeable space with
the Patio area.
_ In the second level we have a corridor which
is also the preparation for an expansion, it
connects the two bedrooms and leave space for
our double height, we also have visible beam and
block preparation above the Patio, expecting for
an expansion.
13

CONSTRUCTIVE SYSTEM
_ The doors and windows go from floor to ceiling
to avoid the time and cost of closing chains.
_ This offers us the added benefit of not having to
break down and recalculate structural elements
at the moment of growth.
_ When using the same type of window it is
easy to change it from one wall to another and
continue construction.
_ Holbox will become a community
focused on the study and preservation
of their identity and biodiversity, as well
as in the valuation of its territory
and social dynamics. When adopting
these behaviors, Holbox will be
reference of sustainable development.
_ What happen with food and excessive
demand of tourists and locals? How the food
plates arrive to the diners in this isolated place?
_ Well, there is only one way to get there
to the island and it’s by ferry. This transport
is taken in Chiquilá, from where it takes a
20-minute tour to get to the island.
CALLE CORAL
_ The problem is that this medium has been
monopolized by a group of people whom
basically basically control everything that
enters the island, from the food and the basic
products, to the construction materials on the
island.
_ All the plants need to receive solar
light, that’s why the project is shaped a
semi sphere because the shape allows
the plant to receive solar incidence all
day long, but as we are in a hot place
were the temperature doesn’t go below
11º C we needed to protect ourself
from the solar radiation with a shade
cloth which let the light go through
but not the heat of the radiation.
_ This project has the main purpose
of making Holbox a self dependant
community. Our purpose is to produce
around 60 - 70% of the actual food
that is consumed on the islands.
_ We want to bring the community
closer to education and culture by
having this forum activities with
expositions mainly about the method
we use to cultivate and grow our plants
and of course on how to take care of
the wildlife and endangered species
that this caribbean paradise hosts.
_ Along with the forum activities
we also offer a restaurant service
with food of our own harvest, with
the opportunity of purchasing all of
the plants and sea life we produce
for locals, tourists, and businesses.
