SANDALWOOD
Sandalwood is used for carvings and handicrafts. The oil has
medicinal value and used in perfumes, incense sticks,
cosmetics, soaps, attar and many more products.
Sandalwood grows on all types soil and from the sea level
1800m altitude and rain fall range from 600mm -
1600mm and moreover it does not require fertile
land to grow.

PRODUCTION & YIELD:
Around 425 trees can be grown in one acre of
land and each tree yields 25 to 30Kgs of scented
heartwood within 10 years through efficient management
practices.
THE VALUE:
At present the average value for scented heartwood is Rs.14,000 per Kg. The sap
wood of sandalwood is equally important and it is mainly used in incense
sticks. Through efficient management practices one can earn Rs.2.5
Lakhs per tree. There steady increase in price of sandalwood
from Rs.1.6 lakhs per ton to 15 lakhs per ton from the year
1994 – 2014 respectively and it would keep rising
drastically.
