From the mayor Enjoy What Orland Park Has to Offer! Thank you to the Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce for providing this guide for residents, businesses and visitors. We enjoy sharing everything that makes Orland Park the great community that it is. Orland Park offers easy access to downtown Chicago, O’Hare and Midway Airports as well as the many attractions in the metropolitan Chicago Area. Easy access to all that the Chicago area offers is available via several Interstate highways and Metra’s commuter rail service making travel convenient for residents and commerce alike. We are very proud of the quality of life that the Orland Park community enjoys. The village’s Recreation Department offers a year full of activities and special events while the Parks Department maintains over 60 acres of parkland throughout the community. The award winning Centennial Park Aquatic Center, outdoor ice arena, ballfields, trails and over 15,000 acres of forest preserves in and surrounding Orland Park, all add to the many amenities the Village has to offer. The school districts that serve Orland Park are known for excellence and innovation in education. Shopping opportunities range from the antique stores in Old Orland to regional malls that house a number of specialty stores. With more than 12 million square feet of retail space and a trade area of more than 800,000 people, there is something for everyone in Orland Park. about our village governement About Our Village The Village of Orland Park Board of Trustees is comprised of the president (mayor), village clerk and six trustees, all of whom are elected at large. Board members are elected to staggered four-year terms and serve part-time. Orland Park residents approved the Village Manager Form of Government by referendum in 1983, wanting the daily administrative duties overseen by an educated, professional manager. As the village’s chief administrator, the village manager is hired by the Board of Trustees to carry out its policies, assuring effective and efficient day to day operations of all departments, on and off-site facilities and government services. The people of Orland Park are fortunate to be served by forward thinking and attentive municipal leaders. The Village provides an exhaustive list of public services for the residents and businesses of the community, including recreation and parks, award-winning public safety, business and development, green initiatives and a variety of specialized services including veterans’ assistance. Orland Park operates its own potable water distribution system, obtaining water from Lake Michigan via the City of Chicago and the Village of Oak Lawn. Orland Park relies on the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District for wastewater treatment. The community receives electricity from ComEd, natural gas from NICOR Gas, as well as local and long-distance telephone service and cable television service from several companies. The Village of Orland Park established an electric aggregation program in June 2012 to benefit residents and qualified small businesses. The Village-wide cumulative savings since the program’s inception is in the millions. Following a competitive bid process, the Orland Park Village Board of Trustees selects a new retail electric supplier approximately every 12 to 16 months. Information about rate options can be found at the Illinois Commerce Commission website: www.pluginilllinois.org and www.ComEd. com. Customers may also request from the Illinois Power Agency, without charge, a list of all supply options available to you in a format that allows comparison of prices and products. The village’s comprehensive plan is an advisory set of policies determining the future physical development of the community. The original plan was adopted in 1991 to govern continued growth of the village. The plan has been updated throughout the years with the most recent plan being approved by the Board of Trustees in December, 2018. The village’s plan was made possible because of the contributions and insights of residents, business persons, property owners, and representatives from a variety of groups and organizations and covers the future of various community aspects – from culture, housing and open space to environment/sustainability and health. The village’s updated comprehensive plan will continue to serve as a guide for future planning decisions, village regulations, and public investment. For more information visit www.orlandpark.org.
