SPRING FLING
The stars aligned for an award-winning
event as guests came in “Hollywood
Favorites” costumes to celebrate the
groundbreaking/second phase of TERI’s
Campus of Life. In attendance were more
than 170 residents, families, and special
guests, including partners Prava Construction
and Home Aid, along with key
supporters of TERI.
Costumes included everything from 101
Dalmations to Star Trek; with a surprise
visit from the Cosplayers Group - 501 st
Clone Troopers, San Diego. Live music
from The TERI Band inspired attendees to
get up and dance. Costume prizes were
awarded, dinner savored, and thanks to
the hard work of staff and volunteers it
was a memory-making, Hollywood bash.
EVENT
HIGHLIGHTS
TERI ANNUAL HORSE SHOW
Under overcast morning skies, TERI held its Second Annual Horse Show at its
Campus of Life in San Marcos. In attendance were 13 riders, their families and
friends, and special guest Supervisor Jim Desmond. The event showcased TERI
riders and their riding skills. And, by the time the sun came out, all riders had
been awarded a ribbon and medal recognizing their accomplishments. Attendees
joined in celebrating their progress and were all invited to enjoy an outdoor
lunch. The TERI appetizer was a big hit. Using a spoon, shaped like a shovel, attendees
dug into a wheelbarrow filled with “edible” soil (made from dehydrated
olives, beets, and ground pistachios). The soil had been planted with a mini
garden of organic vegetables which were scooped up and then topped with a
green goddess dressing...so yum!
SURFERS HEALING
Surfing s a blast for those who have tried it and
love being in the ocean. But what about our kids
who have autism, downs, or other disabilities?
Turns out they love it too.
We found out thanks to pro-surfer “Izzy” Israel
Paskowitz who started an organization called
Surfers Healing just for clients like ours. In June
we held our Second Annual Surfers Healing
Event to the squeals and delight of our TERI
clients. The event was held at Oceanside Beach,
with the help and support of surfers from
Whitlocks and TERI staff and volunteers.
The real event though took place in the hearts, minds, and bodies of the TERI
clients who participated. They may have come to the beach a little anxious,
timid, or apprehensive. But, once in the ocean and catching a wave, they light
up. It’s an invigorating and fun sensory experience and most exit the water very
differently than when they came in - with a huge smile on their face, excitement
in their eyes, and newfound confidence in themselves.
TERI’s Campus of Life Builder/Partner
PRAVA Construction held a small
fundraising event For TERI, at the
Belching Beaver Brewery & Grill in
Vista. Employees, family, friends and
TERI staff mingled on the rustic outdoor
patio enjoying craft beers and
appetizers. A ticket raffle awarded
several lucky winners TERI artwork
designed by our clients.
The beer event served as a minifundraiser
for TERI’s Campus of Life,
with PRAVA employees chipping in
and raising $2K.
The photo here, captured at the
event, is of TERI Founder & CEO
Cheryl Kilmer and Glenn Torrez the
CEO of PRAVA Construction.

TERI CAMPUS OF LIFE
What’s happening at the TERI Campus of Life? Just ask Micheal, our Director of Capital
Construction and he will rattle off a list of the latest accomplishments. The grading of the
property is complete along with the installation of the stormwater system. The first cover
crop was planted in the farm area. Building plans have all been submitted to the County, with
building permits anticipated by late summer/early fall once our plans are approved. Additional
improvements may be made to the access roads, and restoration of the historic Merriam
house will coincide with the construction of the vocational building.
Micheal MacEoghain
Director of Capital Construction
Thanks Micheal, for the quick, concise update. We hope everyone is excited to hear about the
progress being made at the campus because it offers such incredible possibilities for our TERI
clients, as well as serving the local community. We are actively focused on fundraising to receive
our $2M Match that allows Phase II-B to be completed. If you’d like to know more about
this modern campus, or make a donation, visit https://www.teriinc.org /campus-of-life.
TERI’S INSPIRED RESALE
“Spring or summer cleaning can be a hassle if you’re not sure what to do with that closet
full of clothes or older furniture in the garage,” says Shaunda Anaya, TERI’s Inspired Resale
boutique manager. “TERI’s Inspired Resale is a wonderful solution for donating those gently
used items. We will pick up your donations free of charge.” The super benefit, however, is
that those items support TERI adults and children with IDD and Autism. So if you haven’t
gotten around to it yet, get inspired, just think about how what you donate can support
TERI clients, in addition to how great it feels to get rid of unwanted items.
“Our Store is also part of TERI’s vocational program as our clients with special needs have
the opportunity to participate in the daily care of the business,” Shaunda continued, “Our
guys and gals handle a variety of job duties such as sorting merchandise, pricing it, taking
photos for social media posts, or ringing up sales at the register.” Shopping, donating, or
volunteering with us supports our clients and the quality of life that all of us at TERI strive to
provide. If you’d like us to pick up your donations, please call 760-722-1880.
TERI CRIMSON CENTER for
SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPY
TERI Crimson (TC) was delighted to receive a grant from the GreaterGood.org this past
Quarter. GreaterGood.org is a non-profit devoted to improving the health and well-being
of people, pets, and the planet. Their grant allows TC to provide 12-weeks of in-home
therapy, to children 3-years and older with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who would
typically have limited access to speech and language therapy.
Karyn Searcy,
Director/Founder TERI CRIMSON
Additionally, GreaterGood.com, through GreaterGood.org, donated an awesome almost
$20K worth of new toys to TC, to be distributed to children diagnosed with ASD. Toys
are a valuable way for kids with ASD to learn important skills such as social interaction
and engagement with others and their families. Evidence has shown that children with
ASD can learn to understand body language, eye gaze, joint attention, initiation, sharing,
problem-solving and referencing skills while playing with toys meaningfully. Thank you
GreaterGood, for providing us with resources to work collaboratively with our families.
Please contact TC at 858-695-9415 if you’d like to know more.

MEET
THE
BARN
CREW
Have you met the CAAE Barn Crew yet? If not, you are missing
out! Sam, Jon, Tyler, Matt, Derek, Aaron and Paul care for the
livestock at TERI’S Montgomery Barn, and they truly work hard
every day. Just like any farm there are lots of daily chores such as
feeding and giving water to the animals, sweeping and cleaning
the barn, and caring for the animals.
Recently, we brought home four pigs
that are about 8 weeks old, and the
guys are working to make them comfortable
in their new home.
Derek, the newest member of the Barn
Crew, and a former member of the TERI
Peas n’ Carrots 4-H Club is very excited
about the new pigs and is trying to get
them to warm up to the crew. “I learned in 4-H that the best way
to bond with livestock and people is food, and not to make any
sudden moves” said Derek.
Great advice Derek! We look forward to seeing how the pigs
grow. Thanks to the whole Barn Crew for taking good care of our
pigs and certified, organic hens.

VOLUNTEER
SPOTLIGHT
SUE SCHRITT
Years Volunteering: 6+
Occupation: Retired Banker
Hometown: Madison, Minnesota
Graduate: 1967 - Madison High School
Twenty years of cold winters in Canada was enough for American
Sue Schrift to ask her Canadian husband if they could move.
It might have been a loss of vitamin D, or simply craving San
Diego’s sunshine and a milder climate. Fortunately for us at TERI,
her husband agreed to move.
Sue chose to volunteer at TERI after her friend Mary suggested
it (Mary’s son Jimmy attends TERI’s Learning Academy). It’s been
six years now and she is officially a long-time volunteer. Her
assignments often vary with her most recent at TERI’s Equestrian
Horse Show. If you were there, you may have met her at the
entry as she served as the Greeter & Concierge providing arriving
guests with name tags, directions, and information. Sue said she
really enjoys talking with guests and family members. She also
believes they often seek her out because her name tag says “volunteer”
and they want to hear her perspective.
Sue loves being at TERI especially because of the clients and staff.
She said, “I cannot walk out of here [the office] and have a care
in the world after seeing the TERI clients and how many different
needs they have, and yet they are so happy, so excited to be
here, to see you and greet you. It is my joy to be around them.
And, the staff are like a family that is incredible and caring.”
She recalls one of her favorite memories over the past years was
seeing her first TERI Christmas Play. “I was so blown away,” she
said, “when I saw them on the stage, they all had parts and knew
their lines. It was phenomenal. It gives me goosebumps. And,
the Halloween plays are hysterical, [for the kids] the spookier the
better.”
In addition to the plays, Sue has been able to witness first-hand
how Jimmy [Mary’s son] has progressed since being at TERI.
Initially, Jimmy was not able to visit her home as he had a habit
of running off. Now, she says, “Jimmy comes to my home and
does not run off. He enjoys holding my small, teacup poodle who
is very comfortable with him. He is also able to go on golf outings
with his Dad.” At TERI, these stories of progress inspire us in our
mission and focus on transforming lives.
When asked what she would impart to someone interested in
volunteering at TERI, Sue enthusiastically says, “if you want to
have the best day of your life come and spend time at TERI.”
TERI is very grateful for Sue’s volunteer efforts and spirit!
