Midwest Chinese Speech
Contest
Fifteen New Trier students
participated in the
11th Midwest Chinese
Speech Contest, hosted by
Midwest Chinese Teachers
Alliance (MCTA) in
April. MCTA currently
has over 200 Chinese
teachers in the greater
Chicago area, and its interest
is in promoting the
study of Mandarin Chinese
as a world language
or heritage language for
all levels.
The theme of this year’s
speech was “Chinese and
Me.” Students were encouraged
to reflect on the
value of learning Chinese
and the impact it has had
on their lives.
This year, the MCTA
Speech Contest was hosted
online. Next year, the
contest will be an on-site
event and New Trier will
be hosting the event for the
first time on the Northfield
campus.
