Prairie’s Standout Student
because of her academic
accomplishments.
What is one essential you
must have when studying?
When studying, I like to
listen to classical music,
especially Tchaikovsky.
I like the music to be
playing so the room I am
studying in is not so quiet
and awkward. Also, if I
am trying to remember
facts, listening to the music
helps me to remember
them.
What do you like to do
when not in school or
studying?
While I am not in school
or studying, I like to doodle
or sew. Sometimes, I
have a funny cartoon or
image stuck in my head
for a few days. A way to
get the image out is to
draw it. I also like to sew.
I have made things from
teddy bears to quilts. I like
to sew because it has become
a lost art and it is a
useful skill to have in life.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to become
a nurse and work in
a pediatric intensive care
unit, or PICU. My mom
was a nurse in a PICU
for many years, and now
she works on the pediatric
transport team. I love
photo submitted
small children, because
their lives are so full of
hope. If I can help save a
child’s life, then I will be
doing what I love.
Whom do you look up to
and why?
I look up to my mom
the most. She always
makes time for me and my
two sisters. Even when
she works all night, saving
children’s lives, she
still manages to volunteer
at school for class parties,
band trips and run my Girl
Scout troop as a leader. I
love my mom, and I am
grateful for all the sacrifices
she makes for me.
What do you keep under
your bed?
A long time ago, I used
to have a bunk bed, so
technically my younger
sister was “under my bed.”
When I had a loft bed, my
dressers were under my
bed. Now, I have a regular
bed, and I keep my shoes
underneath.
What is your favorite class
and why?
My favorite class is my
honors Spanish class. The
class gives me a challenge
and keeps me on my toes.
I believe it is important to
learn a different language,
especially in my career as
a nurse, where I will be interacting
with a variety of
nationalities.
What’s one thing that
stands out about your
school?
The thing that stands out
about my school, Century
Jr. High, is how many opportunities
it offers. The
school offers classes and
clubs that appeal to everyone.
There is an art club,
technology club, battle of
the books and many sports
teams, just to name a few.
What extracurriculars do
you wish your school had?
I wish my school had
a sewing club. Not many
people know how to sew
anymore, and I think it is a
vital skill to have. Having a
club might encourage some
students to learn this skill.
If you could change one
thing about school, what
would it be?
If I could change one
thing at school, it would
be the ability to have your
cellphone all day. Now,
I am not addicted to my
phone, but it may be good
for emergencies, instead
of having to wait for the
teacher’s phone. Also, junior
high is preparing you
for high school, where the
students can carry their
phones and use in appropriate
situations.
What’s your best memory
from school?
My best memory of
school is the first day of
eighth grade. It was great
to meet up with old friends
I may not have seen all
summer. Even though I
did not have many friends
in my classes, it was great
to meet new students and
make new friends.
