Megiddo was an important fortified city at the entrance to Wadi Ara (Iron) on the western edge of the Jezreel<br />
Valley. Megiddo stands at a vital crossroads on the Via Maris, the “Way of the Sea”, an international road dating<br />
back to the 3 rd millennium, connecting Egypt in the south with Damascus in the north and with Mesopotamia.<br />
The Bible describes many battles here, due to its strategic position.<br />

people: Canaanites, Egyptians,<br />
Israelites, Assyrians, and Persians in<br />
the biblical times as well as the<br />
Ottoman Turks and Englishmen in the<br />
modern era.<br />
Megiddo's noted importance was<br />
undoubtedly due to its role as a way<br />
station and control point for<br />
international trade.<br />
