State Rep. McDermed
announces retirement
Staff Report
State Rep. Margo McDermed announced
through a press release July 10
that she would not be seeking reelection
in November 2020.
“If I were to win reelection next year, I
would turn 70 years old shortly after being
sworn in,” the statement read. “After
30 years as a corporate lawyer, followed
by 14 years as an elected official, it’s time
to retire again.”
After finishing her corporate career in
2006, McDermed was elected to a series
of offices including Frankfort Township
Clerk, Will County Board and finally as
State Representative for the 37th District,
which covers portions of Mokena, Frankfort
and New Lenox.
“It has been an honor to serve and get to
know the residents of the 37th District,”
McDermed wrote in her announcement.
“I will continue to call it home and be its
staunch advocate, but the time has come
for me to take a step back. After serving
out my current term that ends in January
2021, I plan to travel, quilt, volunteer
and spend more time with my two granddaughters
and all my family.”

Frankfort gas station allegedly burglarized
Miscellaneous food
items reportedly were
stolen July 7 from a
Speedway Gas Station in
Frankfort, according to
the Frankfort Police Department.
According to Frankfort
Deputy Police Chief
Kevin Keegan, officers
were dispatched to the
gas station, located at
22305 S. Center Road,
following a report of an
audible alarm with intrusion.
Dispatch informed
the responding officers
the alarm company had
observed three male subjects
break the glass of
the front door and enter
the establishment.
Officers were also informed
that the men
matched the description
of subjects suspected of
committing a similar offense
in a neighboring jurisdiction
approximately
20 minutes prior to the
burglary, Keegan said.
Police later learned the
vehicle the subjects were
using was stolen out of
Calumet City, he added.
Keegan said a police
department in Indiana
later contacted the Frankfort
Police Department to
inform officers the three
subjects had been arrested
for similar offenses
in their jurisdiction, adding
Frankfort police had
some evidence from the
alleged burglary matching
the suspects taken
into custody.
“We are still putting
the investigation together
to present to the Will
County State’s Attorney
for possible charges,”
Keegan said.
