Porters strike out in<br />
summer league sectional<br />

In a new format for the<br />
local summer league baseball<br />
playoffs, the Lockport<br />
Township baseball team<br />
hosted the sectional round<br />
last week.<br />
Unfortunately for the<br />
Porters, they were oneand-done<br />
in the sectional.<br />
Actually, that should be<br />
two-and-done, as the tourney<br />
was a double elimination<br />
one. The Porters,<br />
however, were knocked<br />
out on the first day of the<br />
tourney. They lost 13-3<br />
in five innings to Sandburg<br />
and then fell 11-6 to<br />
Lincoln-Way West in the<br />
opening day elimination<br />
game on Monday, July 8,<br />
at Flink Field in Lockport.<br />
As most high teams in<br />
this era of travel baseball,<br />
Lockport was limited in its<br />
roster as numerous regulars<br />
weren’t there.<br />
“We have guys playing<br />
in tournaments in Georgia<br />
and Indianapolis,” Lockport<br />
coach Andy Satunas<br />
said. “But the players that<br />
were here, they battled out<br />
there and you can’t ask for<br />
any more than that. I’m<br />
proud of their efforts.”<br />
In the first game of the<br />
day, the Porters (5-4-1 in<br />
the summer) fell behind<br />
5-0 right away and never<br />
got going against a Sandburg<br />
squad that was put<br />
together right before the<br />
postseason playoffs.<br />
We gave up a 5-spot in<br />
the first and their pitcher,<br />
Will Tenuta, was dealing,”<br />
Satunas said of the Sandburg<br />
senior. We made it<br />
5-1 but then they got four<br />
more runs to go up 9-1. At<br />
that point, you start looking<br />
toward the next game.<br />
Double elimination tournaments<br />
are a whole different<br />
style of baseball and<br />
you have to make some<br />
decisions based on that.<br />
You have to hold back<br />
some.”<br />
In the second game,<br />
Lincoln-Way East slipped<br />
past Lincoln-Way West<br />
5-3. That meant that East<br />
automatically advanced to<br />
the next day against Sandburg,<br />
while West played<br />
the Porters in an elimination<br />
game. There, batting<br />
as the visiting team, Lockport<br />
took a brief lead with<br />
a 4-run top of the fourth.<br />
