UMMER seems to have taken a long time to arrive
this year, but hopefully we’re set for a few weeks of
warmer weather.
Weekday evenings have a very different feel when the sun is
still in the sky when you arrive home from work, while the
weekend seems to stretch out forever.
Summer is a great time to escape the kitchen and get out
and explore the myriad food and drink venues on our
doorstep.
Many pubs, cafes and restaurants will have refreshed their
menus for the summer season celebrating fresh ingredients
and feel-good flavours.
Outside spaces for al-fresco dining range from atmospheric
courtyards to vistas with countryside views.
And who could argue with the viewpoint that a cooling
evening drink in your local tastes better at the end of a day in
the heat of the garden.
Perhaps a bit of a holiday feeling has come over you and you
feel more adventurous than usual?
Seize the moment and try out one of those interesting gins
or fruit ciders you’ve read about, or a micro-brewed beer.
Finally, if you’re firing up the barbecue, shop locally for your
meats and other foods to ensure you’re getting fresh, top
quality produce and supporting the town’s economy.
