We are delighted to share with you our prospectus for <strong>Adult</strong> Community Learning for the upcoming<br />

academic year starting in September in <strong><strong>20</strong>19</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Cheadle</strong> <strong>College</strong> is at the heart of the community and endeavours to<br />

have an outstanding impact in everything we do. As well as offering a wide<br />

range of courses for adults, we also help the community in other ways.<br />

Our sports hall is available for community use and our classrooms and other<br />

facilities are available for hire. If you are a charity or a community group we<br />

aim to keep fees as low as possible.<br />

At Marple Sixth Form <strong>College</strong> our sports hall is now available to hire for<br />

local charities and community groups on a not-for-profi t basis. Please<br />

contact me for more information.<br />

For those learners interested in exploring what<br />

Learning some key techniques of Neuro Linguistic Programming will enable you to manage<br />

yourself in a more controlled and purposeful manner, whether it is at home, at work or in your<br />

Horticulture contributes £9 billion<br />

to the UK economy every year and<br />

employs around 300,000 people,<br />

yet 70% of businesses say they<br />

struggle to find the skilled<br />

workers they require.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Cheadle</strong> <strong>College</strong> is the only Royal<br />

Horticulture Society (RHS) approved centre in<br />

Greater Manchester for practical horticulture<br />

courses.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Cheadle</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers the RHS Practical<br />

Horticulture qualifi cation at Level 2. As well as RHS<br />

theory-based courses in the evening and during the<br />

day.<br />

Horticulture contributes £9 billion to the UK economy<br />

<strong>The</strong>se courses are theory-based qualifi cations at<br />

horticultural profession, to support career development<br />

for those already working in horticulture, or to provide<br />

SEWING<br />

Sewing is a craft to be enjoyed by people<br />

of all backgrounds and experience. Recent<br />

years have seen people returning to<br />

sewing as a hobby, a craft and even as a<br />

business.Environmental concerns are also<br />

driving the rise in the craft; people are now<br />

interested in learning to make and repair<br />

their own clothes and soft furnishings<br />

instead of buying new ones.<br />

Beginners may want to start with smaller<br />

and more simple projects while they learn the<br />

basics of sewing. From there you will develop<br />

your skills and techniques. Whether you<br />

prefer sewing by hand or machine, we<br />

have you covered.<br />

SEWING FOR BEGINNERS<br />

Learn how to read patterns and understand the fabrics<br />

and equipment. Make clothes, craft and household<br />

items. Choose your own project and learn at your<br />

own pace.<br />

This course is designed for the person who has a basic<br />

knowledge of sewing, but would like to improve their<br />

ARTS & CRAFTS<br />

Our sugarcraft tutor, John, is passionate about his craft and in helping other people to learn it.<br />

John has many years’ commercial experience as well as delivering courses to adults.<br />

SUGARCRAFT - BEGINNERS<br />

If you have always wanted to learn cake decorating basics this will be the course for you. <strong>The</strong> course includes cake<br />

covering in sugar paste, royal icing piping, frills and sugar paste roses. You will learn lots of skills and new ideas to<br />

make your cakes even more special.<br />

• Decorate a novelty cake and celebration cake in this class.<br />

• Sponge and dummy cakes will be used.<br />

SUGARCRAFT - INTERMEDIATE<br />

This course is to help people with some experience of cake decorating, adding more skills including royal icing<br />

lacework, brush embroidery and cocoa painting. You will learn to make basic fl ower paste fl owers and leaves<br />

including roses, carnations, sweet peas and fi ller fl owers.<br />

• This course will be working on dummy cakes<br />

FLOWER ARRANGING (FRESH FLOWERS)<br />

Flower arrangements are an important part of any special occasion; weddings and anniversaries, birthdays,<br />

congratulations (and apologies!) etc. <strong>The</strong>y are also beautiful for no occasion; just having cut fl owers in the home or<br />

offi ce brighten up the whole room.<br />

Level 1 and 2 <strong>Course</strong>s: Fees are waived for 19-23<br />

year olds who do not currently have a full Level 2<br />

qualifi cation and for all learners on JSA, ESA (WRAG)<br />

or certain other benefi ts.<br />

Level 3 <strong>Course</strong>s:<br />

Fees are waived for 19-23 year olds who do not currently<br />

have a Level 3 qualifi cation. All other learners must pay<br />

their course fees in full or fund the course through the<br />

Advanced Learner Loan:<br />

<strong>The</strong> loan works in a similar way to a university student<br />

loan and does not have to start being repaid unless or<br />

until you are earning over £25,725 per year. For full<br />
