We are delighted to share with you our prospectus for Adult Community Learning for the upcoming 

academic year starting in September in 2019. 

The Cheadle College is at the heart of the community and endeavours to 

have an outstanding impact in everything we do. As well as offering a wide 

range of courses for adults, we also help the community in other ways. 

Our sports hall is available for community use and our classrooms and other 

facilities are available for hire. If you are a charity or a community group we 

aim to keep fees as low as possible. 

At Marple Sixth Form College our sports hall is now available to hire for 

local charities and community groups on a not-for-profi t basis. Please 

contact me for more information. 

As the Community Development Manager at The Cheadle College and 

Marple Sixth Form College I and my staff are passionate about improving 

the life of everyone in the community. Whether you want to attend a course, 

use our sports hall, or host your community activities at the college please

qualifications. These courses can help you 

get started on a pathway to a career in

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN COUNSELLING CONCEPTS 

For those learners interested in exploring what 

counselling training entails, this qualifi cation offers a 

practical introduction. You will develop communication 

skills and gain important industry insight to help make 

informed career decisions. Learners will complete 

this qualifi cation with a full and comprehensive 

understanding of the following: 

• Therapeutic models of counselling, ethical 

frameworks and helping relationships. 

• Effective communication skills. 

• How to refl ect on personal development and 

identify areas for future development. 

LEVEL 2 AWARD IN COUNSELLING SKILLS 

This qualifi cation is made up of units developed in 

association with Skills for Health and the Sector 

Skills Council for the Health and Social Care 

Sector. It enhances and improves verbal and written 

communication skills, promotes personal growth and 

provides basic industry knowledge, preparing learners 

for progression onto appropriate further qualifi cations. 

Learners will complete this qualifi cation with a full and 

comprehensive understanding of the following: 

• How to refl ect on personal development and 

identify areas for future development. 

• What core counselling skills are, including how 

to establish a helping relationship and knowing 

how to conclude a helping interaction.

HEALTH & WELLBEING 

Learning some key techniques of Neuro Linguistic Programming will enable you to manage 

yourself in a more controlled and purposeful manner, whether it is at home, at work or in your 

leisure time. “As seen on the Global Women’s Health Network Boomer Babes Life.” 

All the techniques learned on this course are practical and can be used immediately by you. In a rapidly 

changing world you need to feel in control, the powerful skills learned on this course will help you to do that. 

The course is delivered by Rob Comer is who is an NLP Master Practitioner with over 10 years’ experience 

delivering corporate and public NLP courses in Greater Manchester. 

Here are some of the personal indicators you can look for during the course and following its completion:

HORTICULTURE

Horticulture contributes £9 billion 

to the UK economy every year and 

employs around 300,000 people, 

yet 70% of businesses say they 

struggle to find the skilled 

workers they require. 

The Cheadle College is the only Royal 

Horticulture Society (RHS) approved centre in 

Greater Manchester for practical horticulture 

courses. 

The Cheadle College offers the RHS Practical 

Horticulture qualifi cation at Level 2. As well as RHS 

theory-based courses in the evening and during the 

day. 

Horticulture contributes £9 billion to the UK economy

RHS LEVEL 2 THEORY QUALIFICATIONS 

1. Certificate in The Principles of Garden Planning, 

Establishment and Maintenance. 

2. Certificate in The Principles of Plant 

Growth, Propagation and Development. 

These courses are theory-based qualifi cations at 

Level 2 providing a broad knowledge of the principles 

supporting horticultural practices. 

They are for people wanting a route into the 

horticultural profession, to support career development 

for those already working in horticulture, or to provide 

a foundation for further learning or training. They can 

also, of course, simply provide keen gardeners with 

further knowledge. 

RHS PRACTICAL HORTICULTURE 

This qualifi cation develops the essential skills 

needed to work in horticulture or to further develop 

your personal interest. 

Level 2 is aimed at anyone with an interest in plants 

and gardening, focusing on developing essential 

horticultural skills.

SEWING 

...ITCHIN’ TO BE STICHIN’? 

Sewing is a craft to be enjoyed by people 

of all backgrounds and experience. Recent 

years have seen people returning to 

sewing as a hobby, a craft and even as a 

business.Environmental concerns are also 

driving the rise in the craft; people are now 

interested in learning to make and repair 

their own clothes and soft furnishings 

instead of buying new ones. 

Beginners may want to start with smaller 

and more simple projects while they learn the 

basics of sewing. From there you will develop 

your skills and techniques. Whether you 

prefer sewing by hand or machine, we 

have you covered. 

SEWING FOR BEGINNERS 

Learn how to read patterns and understand the fabrics 

and equipment. Make clothes, craft and household 

items. Choose your own project and learn at your 

own pace. 

• You will need a sewing box with basic equipment. 

• You will need to bring your own sewing machine 

SEWING BEE 

This course is designed for the person who has a basic 

knowledge of sewing, but would like to improve their 

skills and explore in more depth creativity and design. 

Learn how to use your own machine and sewing 

equipment for more detailed and complex techniques 

and designs. 

• You will need a sewing box with basic equipment. 

• You will need to bring your own sewing machine. 

USING SEWING MACHINES & OVERLOCKERS 

Learn how to control and operate your sewing machine 

and overlocker. Learn about different feet, threads, 

needles and the different techniques that can be 

achieved with your machine and take your sewing skills 

to the next level.

ARTS & CRAFTS 

Our sugarcraft tutor, John, is passionate about his craft and in helping other people to learn it. 

John has many years’ commercial experience as well as delivering courses to adults. 

SUGARCRAFT - BEGINNERS 

If you have always wanted to learn cake decorating basics this will be the course for you. The course includes cake 

covering in sugar paste, royal icing piping, frills and sugar paste roses. You will learn lots of skills and new ideas to 

make your cakes even more special. 

• Decorate a novelty cake and celebration cake in this class. 

• Sponge and dummy cakes will be used. 

SUGARCRAFT - INTERMEDIATE 

This course is to help people with some experience of cake decorating, adding more skills including royal icing 

lacework, brush embroidery and cocoa painting. You will learn to make basic fl ower paste fl owers and leaves 

including roses, carnations, sweet peas and fi ller fl owers. 

• This course will be working on dummy cakes 

FLOWER ARRANGING (FRESH FLOWERS) 

Flower arrangements are an important part of any special occasion; weddings and anniversaries, birthdays, 

congratulations (and apologies!) etc. They are also beautiful for no occasion; just having cut fl owers in the home or 

offi ce brighten up the whole room.

We also offer room hire on a commercial basis for meetings, presentations and training

COURSE FEES 

Easy Pay Options 

Pay for any course over £500.00 in four monthly 

instalments or over £200.00 in three monthly instalments. 

Courses leading to a qualification 

Level 1 and 2 Courses: Fees are waived for 19-23 

year olds who do not currently have a full Level 2 

qualifi cation and for all learners on JSA, ESA (WRAG) 

or certain other benefi ts. 

Level 3 Courses: 

Fees are waived for 19-23 year olds who do not currently 

have a Level 3 qualifi cation. All other learners must pay 

their course fees in full or fund the course through the 

Advanced Learner Loan: 

The loan works in a similar way to a university student 

loan and does not have to start being repaid unless or 

until you are earning over £25,725 per year. For full
