YEARS AGO
looked a little different, we
started our journey as a couple of
friends deciding to give owning a hair
salon a go.
Not really having any foresight on
what our future held, we were however
so driven by a passion and love for our
craft and our industry.
We are so proud to be still here 25
years later! We have created beautiful
looks for TV, Fashion Runways—
both nationally & internationally—
numerous fashion shoots, and have had
so many amazing experiences.
However nothing is more special
than the support we have had by so
many of our clients. We are eternally
grateful that we have built so many
beautiful relationships.
Training and education has always
been of a high priority, shaping the
careers of many young people. We have
seen over 50 stylists become qualified,
so thank you to our teams past and
present.
We now have two stunning salons
in Norwood and North Adelaide, and a
very big thank you to Steph for ORBE
Beauty at Norwood.
And another thank you to all who
have helped create our magic
Lift
Summum
The Lift Summum treatment is
designed to firm and smooth the delicate
skin of the face, neck, and chest (often
the first areas to show signs of aging) –
offering instant and long-term results.
The Lift Summum is fast-acting and
removes dead skin cells, redefines the
face contour, and restores radiance in
just 50 minutes.
Benefits include:
• Exfoliates and removes dead cells
• Improves skin elasticity
• Fills and erases wrinkles
• Smoothes and lifts facial features
Step 1: Double Exfoliation
In the first phase of this treatment,
papaya extract breaks dead cells away
from the skin to facilitate exfoliation.
Microparticles of cellulose remove
dead skin cells mechanically through
friction. Fruit acids accelerate shedding
and boost cell renewal.
Step 2: Massage
The second phase includes massage
with mahogany bark extract to improve
skin elasticity to help counteract
slackening, while alaria esculenta
seaweed extract helps prevent the
appearance of wrinkles.
Step 3: Filler/Eraser
The third phase embeds hyaluronic
acid spherical fillers into wrinkle
grooves. The fillers then rehydrate and
inflate to fill the wrinkles.
Step 4: Firming Mask
The fourth and final phase utilizes
dynalift and a biotechnological
complex to smooth facial features and
combat skin slackening by forming a
mask that lifts.
LVL
YOUR BEAUTY
ROUTINE IS
ABOUT TO
GET A WHOLE
LOT SHORTER
LVL stands for length, volume and
lift. One of these words appears on
pretty much every best mascara on the
market. It’s very rare that all three will
appear together, because that would
be crazy. Imagine a product that could
lengthen, volumise and lift at the same
time!
They might claim they can, but if
it existed, everyone woman on the
planet would use it. There may not be
a mascara that can do all three, but
there’s something called an LVL Lash
Lift, or LVL Lashes as they are also
known, that can quite literally do all
three things.
Here’s everything you need to know
about this brilliant, and we mean
brilliant, lash lift treatment:
This is a healthy lash lift and tint
which leaves the lashes damage free,
giving you the look of mascara without
even having to apply it! It lasts around
6-8 weeks depending on your own
growth of lashes, we recommend that
you use the lash and brow conditioning
serum alongside it which is packed full
of nourishing goodness!
Treatment: $90 (takes ~40mins)
Conditioning Serum: $50
Platinum
THINKING
ABOUT GOING
PLATINUM?
Blonde
It’s been everywhere on Hollywood
red carpets, on Instagram, on Kim
Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, these
ladies have certainly pushed boundaries,
have you ever wondered “Can I even
pull off that hair colour?”
A very valid question; we say break
the rules from time-to-time. We’re
not saying that platinum will suit
everyone, but if you are thinking of
going much lighter, a little extra makeup
will help with adding more “colour”
to complexion, or even changing up
your lippy will make a difference.
Speak to one of our stylists to make
sure you are picking the right platinum
blonde hair for your skin tone, or the
difference between icy blonde and
white blonde, how often you’d need to
worry about touch-ups, or whether or
not it’ll work on your fine hair, curly
hair or even extremely coarse hair.
For now, we just wanted to give you a
head’s up on the top 3 Rules you need
to know and consider before you take
the plunge and change your hair colour,
with some choice advice with brunetteto-platinum
hair transformations.
Blondes need a little bit more
loving because each hair strand is
plumped up with bleach and peroxide,
and maybe even heat to process. This
is why venturing over to the lighter
spectrum does require more upkeep
and a commitment to keeping your hair
hydrated and healthy. Just remember
the following rules and you will have
not only achieve the look but maintain
the condition of your hair.
Rule 1: The colour transition needs
to be gradual. Platinum isn’t possible
to achieve in one appointment for
brunettes. “Patience is key,”
A colour from Brunette to Platinum
can take up to 4-6 salon visits, it is
done layer upon layer, and it really
depends on the background of the hair
and what’s been done before. We will
not consider going lighter without the
commitment of using our GOLDWELL
BONDPRO+ which is within the Plex
family we add this during the lightening
process. This is extremely important to
maintain optimum condition in the hair.
• Hair looks & feels significantly
healthier
• Hair is revitalized & deeply
nourished
• Strengthens the hair fibre &
supports bond stability
• Prevents breakage during alkaline
services and protects hair from
damage
Rule 2: Preserving your colourists’
hard work and your in-salon
investment
If you decide to go ahead with your
platinum makeover, get ready to put
ORBE Winter 2019 • Page 10
some effort into maintaining it. Being
an artificial blonde isn’t easy - you’re
likely to spend up to three or four hours
in the salon to get your colour done,
not to mention the money that you’re
spending on the appointment itself
There’s some effort required to keep
that colour looking fresh, as well as
a commitment to be using the correct
in-salon treatment service as part of
the lightening process. You have to be
prepared to use the best products. The
Goldwell Kerasilk Range will assist
in the home maintence, it goes hand in
hand with this extensive service and
just looks after the integrity of the hair.
While we also recommend keeping
some purple shampoo and conditioner
to keep brassiness at bay this applies to
anyone who has any kind of lightened
or blonde hair.
The following are all different
strengths so speak to your stylist to see
what would be best suited for you.
• Goldwell Dual Senses – Blondes
and Highlights
• Kevin Murphy – Angel Wash
• Milkshake –Silver shine
Anyone who has hair that’s been
lightened should have a regular toner
in a salon every four weeks that will
extend the life of their colour.
Rule 3: Have your hair cut regularly
To ensure your blonde hair continues
to look fresh, we recommend a haircut
every six to seven weeks. Also having a
few layers added throughout the interior
of your cut to add lift and energy to
your hairstyle so it won’t sit flat.
So there you go! If you’re looking
to change your hair colour from brown
to a platinum shade, don’t expect it to
happen in a day, and make sure you’re
prepared to invest the time and effort in
maintaining the colour. You will totally
love it!
Technispa
THE LATEST TREATMENT
OFFERING FROM GUINOT, TO
SOLVE YOUT SLIMMING AND
CELLULITE CONCERNS!
This advanced technology uses a
triple-action, to break down and shift
stubborn cellulite and fat. So let’s look
at the difference between white and
brown fat cells.
White fat cells are historic cells, fat
that has been there for a long time and
is harder for our body to shift. Brown
fat cells haven’t been around for as long
are generally when we lose weight or
fat these are the fat cells that go first.
White fat cells can be turned in to
brown with a combination of diet and
exercise. Luckily technispa treats both!
Double demo lipo-aspirations:
In just one technical movement, the
massage handle performs two slimming
movements. Lipo-aspiration draws in
the skin so that two folds of skin appear,
doubling the treatment’s effectiveness
in the same treatment time. Patented
system.
Slimming double ionisation: The
double ionisation technique increases
the absorption and circulation of active
ingredients combined in the actiserums,
thereby increasing the treatment’s
effectiveness
Slimming thermal effect: The
heat-diffusing process softens fat on
the skins surface and increases the
skins microcirculation to facilitate
detoxification
1994
In early 1994, the “grunge” style had
completely taken over the American
fashion world. A style derived from
clothes worn by Seattle rock musicians,
grunge was an assortment of jackets,
vests, sweaters, skirts, scarves, and
footwear that resembled hiking boots.
A very popular look among young
women and girls from 1994–1995
was the “sexy school girl” look. This
trend consisted of tartan mini kilts,
undersized sweaters, short slip dresses,
baby doll tees, knee highs, thigh highs,
miniature backpacks, overalls, tights,
pantyhose, and chunky shoes.
Marc Jacobs developed a grunge
collection. Gianni Versace did too, but
women found themselves hard pressed
to pay designer prices for what they
thought resembled second-hand clothes.
While grunge remained popular with
the younger crowd in 1994, women
over 30 were unimpressed.
By the end of 1994, women were
wearing high heels and dresses made
of satin, metallic or other high shine
fabrics. Feathers and fringe, beads and
sequins adorned clothes that hugged the
body. 1972 glam was back!
Comfort persisted in the clothes
women wore in their downtime. Tights
made of spandex, t-shirts and loose
sweaters dominated the weekend.
Women still found the suit to be
the most useful way to dress for the
increasingly faster-paced modern
world. Giorgio Armani figured out
ways to tailor clothes that both men and
women loved.
As Yves Saint Lauren found out,
using real fur was an invitation for
passionate protests from animal rights
activists. During his first visit to the
U.S. in 12 years, he was greeted by
angry picketers who took issue with
the fox trim on his jackets that were on
display at a New York City Saks Fifth
Avenue store.
When you close your eyes and think
of ‘90s fashion, chances are you are
picturing something from 1994: a killer
black dress held together by safety pins,
dark red lips and nails, and Jennifer
Aniston’s iconic Friends haircut. But
what else made 1994 so great? Here’s
a look-back at the year’s best style and
pop culture moments
Vamp is the colour of the year for
nails! The new sassy, sexy ruby red
Vamp nail polish was everywhere. And
the Chanel shade is really unforgettable
on Uma Thurman in the 1994 hit film
Pulp Fiction
The bra came out from hiding when
Sassy Sarahs—as in Jessica Parker
and Michelle Gellar—got away with
wearing nothing on top but a bra. And
somehow, the look caught on.
MTV’s first shocking kiss caused a
frenzy when Lisa Marie Presley and
Michael Jackson famously kissed at the
MTV Video Music Awards. The couple
had secretly married in the Dominican
Republic that same year.
Supermodels said no to fur thanks to
the animal activist organisation, People
for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
(PETA). Christy Turlington and Naomi
Campbell posed naked on billboards
with the slogan “I’d Rather Go Naked
than Wear Fur.”
The Wonderbrad lifted us up! The
Wonderbra and the Super-Uplift—
which offered sudden cleavage without
implants—made it big! Considered
modern miracles, these push-up bras
began to account for 10 percent of the
bra market.
The popular unisex scent CK One
by Calvin Klein landed on the scene
and spurred an international buzz. If
that wasn’t enough, the sexy black and
white ads starred Kate Moss and Marky
Mark (aka Mark Wahlberg).
Fashion
Trends
Accessories can either make or
break an outfit. So, it’s essential to
ensure yours are on-point every time.
Of course, choosing the perfect bag,
shoes and sunglasses can be a challenge
without the right inspiration. If you’re
ready for some fresh inspiration, take
a look at the best accessory trends
from the Spring/Summer 2019 Fashion
Weeks. These are the looks spotted on
the streets of Milan, Paris, New York
and London during the Fashion month
of May.
Purple Feet
Street style stars put their best foot
forward in some seriously striking
footwear. Undoubtedly, one of the best
and most eye-catching shoe trends
of the month was the colour purple.
Unique and unmissable, bold purple
shades graced an incredible array of
footwear styles, including sneakers,
pumps, boots, and more.
Sunglasses with Angular Frames
In 2019, sunglasses looked sharper
than ever. Instead of the usual round
and oval styles, this season saw an
assortment of beautiful angular frames.
From triangles and rectangles to
diamonds and hexagons, the trend came
in a variety of shapes. However, what
they all had in common were straight
edges, defined corners and an utterly
cool appearance. Naturally, these
glasses will be the chicest way to shield
your eyes this summer.
ORBE Winter 2019 • Page 20
Futuristic Sneakers
Sneakers have long been the
footwear of choice for many industry
icons during fashion week. After all,
darting between shows and meetings
can get exhausting in heels. This season,
however, the usual cast of comfortable,
lace-up shoes took a turn towards the
futuristic. From metallic and multicoloured
designs to supersized styles
with sleek curves, this season’s sneaker
selection is fit for the space age.
Snakeskin Boots
Prints were massive for the Spring/
Summer 2019 show season and, along
with gracing many garments, they also
appeared on accessories. One of our
favourite examples is the snakeskin
boot. As fierce as they are stylish,
these sleek boots were worn by style
set members on the streets of Milan,
New York and Paris. To soften their
appearance, they were partnered with
ladylike ruffle dresses and long coats.
Shrunken Bags
These bags were as cute as they were
small. So, provided you don’t need to
carry more than your phone and credit
card, be sure to give this trend a try.
Pearls, Pearls, Pearls
Jewellery designs turned ladylike for
the S/S 2019 show season with pearls
appearing on plenty of street style stars.
Of course, it wasn’t your grandma’s
pearls that these fashionable ladies
were rocking. These pearlescent pieces
were contemporary and full of attitude.
To wear the trend yourself, embrace an
assortment of pearl jewellery pieces,
such as statement earrings, layered
necklaces, hair berets, and bracelets.
Also, make note that pearls don’t
always have to be perfectly round to
be pretty. Sometimes, a more natural
shape looks even better.
Page 21 • ORBE Winter 2019
Hair
Trends
It’s been seen all over the world
at various fashion weeks and now
it’s time to come into your wardrobe.
Coming in so many shapes, sizes and
even messages, there’s no excuse to get
involved in the trend. Start clipping!
Bobby Pins
Bobby pins have never been so
fun. The key to pulling off this look
is wearing as many as possible—you
really can’t go wrong with some bobby
pin free form.
Pearls, Pearls and More Pearls
A pair of simple pearl hair slides
suddenly makes a casual daytime outfit
feel so chic. Style with additional pearl
jewellery for added trend points. A tiny
update to our wardrobes, that we can’t
stop talking about.
This may look like a bridal hairdo,
but in fact, it was a look championed
by blogger Andrea Rognstad at
Copenhagen fashion week. It offers
a fun contrast to her heritage checked
trench.
