3E brings reset families to the scottsbluff community Parenting is hard work. How do you sort through all the advice, suggestions, and philosophies to find a practical system that works for your family? Reset Families is a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and social and emotional learning approach that supports a variety of families in making sense of parenting by connecting them to an approach used in schools across the country. The Reset Families approach draws from research and best practices to help parents and caregivers create a family culture that nurtures connection even as we give our kids the redirection and support they need. Reset Families is based on Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports. When applied to the family environment, PBIS takes a proactive approach to establishing behavioral supports and skills while creating a family culture where children are able to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. Reset Families prepares you to teach your kids the lifelong skills they need to manage their own behavior, to own their mistakes, repair damage done, and move on. The result is a balance between strong relationships and accountability for behavior choices that builds trust and strengthens relationships. 3E is bringing this new program to the Scottsbluff community and any interested organizations who would like to start a group are invited to attend a free two day training session on August 21st and 22nd at ESU #13. Youth organizations, faith communities, parent groups or anyone that wants to help families receive a practical approach to challenging child behaviors is welcome to attend. For more information or to RSVP contact Jodi Benson at jbenson@sbps.net. 3E Hosts first ever Community new years resolution Event This past January, 3E hosted the first every Community New Years Resolution event. Multiple representatives from targeted entities including Western Nebraska Community College, Educational Service Unit #13, City of Scottsbluff, the YMCA, Scottsbluff Public Schools and 3E board members joined together for focused conversation with a goal of developing one common “new year’s resolution” for our youth for 2019 that we could all work on together. The entities involved spoke about successes and challenges for Scottsbluff youth today within the context of their organization. The purpose of the event was for the group to identify community needs and issues as well as responses. The participants discussed needs such as access to early childhood care, transitional mental health services, multicultural awareness, education and interventions, community socialization, transportation and financial needs, workforce needs and consolidation of resources. After reviewing all of these items, the groups felt that the most impactful issue was mental health. A volunteer group was formed led by Dr. Katie Carrizales of ESU#13 to focus on items such as Mental Health Awareness, homeless services, increased support programs, inpatient treatment for addiction and metal illness, services for parents, teens and families, and a behavioral residential day school program. participants hear presentations at the first annual community new years resolution event sponsored by 3e With the support of Senator Stinner, a grant has been submitted by ESU#13 to the Sherwood Foundation to request funding for a behavioral residential day school program to benefit all schools in the area. Area school districts have also created a plan for funding and usage. This group will continue to meet throughout the year and will report back to all participants at the next Community New Years Resolution Event in January of 2020.
