This magazine and all its content it's an exclusive entertainment
for all our incredible students.
By Amanda Moab
So here we have it: our first exclusive content
from many others that are yet to come.
Don't be surprised if it just gets better and
better cause that's what moves our school and
that's the message we want to spread: people
can always be better, help better, learn better.
People can always improve!
Have you ever thought about how fortunate
we are for being humans? Think about it for
a second. Now give it another and deeper
thought. Language is just one of the amazing
tools we've created. English is just a part of
what our imagination can do.
We can do this cause we can learn from each
other. By books and other historical recorders
we can absorb knowledge from people that
lived here, improving and evolving as fast as
any other species.
That's what moves us, and that's what this
amazing magazine is going to be about.
You can certainly wait for breath-taking
inspiring stories and some fun curious facts
too. We bring to you whatever inspires us
and we hope that with that, we can make your
learning process lighter, funnier and richer.
On this edition you are gonna see how a
person can, by using what nature has given
us in its purest form, create an unexpected
educational environment. Also, how creative
and crazy we can be sometimes.
Talking about creativity, funny fact:
This very magazine was first a student's home
work. She loves fashion, she speaks English
pretty well now, after 5 months studying with
us, and now she is one step closer to her goals.
We hope you enjoy it.
Have you ever thought of the possibility of a
sustainable place where kids not only learn what
we expect to be learned in a school, but also skills
that will make a positive impact to the
environment in a long and short term?
That's a hell of a question...
What if I told you that someone has already
thought about it and actually put this on practice?
"And here it is, it’s called Green School. I know
it doesn’t look like a school but it’s beautiful,
sustainable, and we teach children that the world
is not indestructible and that they can make a
difference!”
- John Hardy, Founder of Green School
Located in Bali, Indonesia, the green school was
founded by John and Cinthia Hardy. Although the
idea for the school was idealized in 2006, it was in
2008 that it really opened its doors with a hundred
students .
Nowadays, at least twenty percent of the students
in the school are Indonesian, and they don't pay
anything for that, but aside the natives, the green
school also atracts students from all around the
world, reaching kindergarten to high school.
The pedagogical approach of the school is based
on the studies of the new zealander Alan Wagstaff,
that proposes and integrated learning process
involving four dimensions: Social-emotional, spiritual,
intelectual and synesthetic .
The school is visited by tourists from all
around the world not only for its innovative
and green architecture, but also for its
methodology that includes holistical
teaching, with the focus on the students
and the environment.
By Fábio Sanjar Dini Júnior
Bamboo, widely found in Indonesia is the main
material used in the 75 buildings of the school,
including the spiral shaped main building. All of that
is supported by renewable energy, including
a miniature hydroelectric, solar panels and bio diesel.
All the water used in the school is reused, the
gardens are actually plantations, and kids can play
with animals loose in the 9 hectares of area.
That's a fine example of method that can
lead to the creation of similar schools
around the globe.
The green school in Bali inflics minimum
impact on the environment and that's why it
was the inaugural winner of the “greenest
school on earth" award from the Center of
Green Schools in the US Green Building
Council and had received International
acclaim for its innovative approach to
education.
Elon Musk's well known for his shares and influence in Tesla
Motors, as he was the one responsible for, practically,
rebuilding the Tesla’s car concept, making it more durable and
beautiful. What some people may not know, though, is that
Musk has a side project, a company called The Boring
Company and this company has as its main goal to create a
tunnel which is called The Boring Tunnel, the idea is to
decrease traffic in Los Angeles. But today, we’re here to talk
about something else the company produced.
In 2018 the company began to engage in several marketing
and promoting campaigns and offered a variety of
promotional merchandise to costumers, among them there’s a
Flamethrower, or as it is called The Boring Flamethrower.
After offering 50.000 hats and had it sold out the company
started offering a Flamethrower, they produced around
20.000 units that were sold out in days. The Boring
Flamethrower was a blow torch shaped like a futuristic type
of gun and it is legal to use in all US States, but Maryland.
If you want to acquire one of a Not a Flamethrower you
will have to pay something around U$500,00, it doesn’t
come with propane, though, but the company does send
you the money to buy it and specifications.
Following its marketing and promoting campaign Musk
announced the company will start producing life-sized
LEGO, the bricks will cost 10 cents each and he also
tweeted that they would be turned into kits, with ancient
Egypt-inspired buildings, such as pyramids, sphinx,
temples of Horus, etc.
It’s fair to say The Boring Company is everything but
boring and it is worth to wait and see what other mind
blowing ideas they will come up with
The Boring Flamethrower had its name changed after Musk
announced it on his Twitter account to “Not a Flamethrower”,
due to severe criticism from the government. The name was
chosen Not a Flamethrower due to laws that would impeach its
shipping around the world.
STUDENT: Rayssa, 17
Hello's student since april, 19
TEACHER: Amanda, 25
Hello's co-founder, interviewer
Hello Interviews Rayssa
First, a little introduction: Rayssa is our first intensive course student. She has an important goal to reach, many
dreams to follow and a airplane to catch. In this very month, she is flying to the United States, where she is going
to have her last High School year finished and many stories to tell once she comes back (if she does).
Teacher: Ok, so we are gonna start our interview with Rayssa. Our most famous student ever! haha
Rayssa: Hi guys!!
Teacher: So, girl, my first question is: Why did you decide to learn English?
Rayssa: Because I'm gonna go to the US and I needed to speak English. When I decided to go to an exchange I didn't know
how to speak English, so I searched for a school and I found Hello!
Teacher: Nice! And how did you find us?
Rayssa: On instagram, Teacher! Like, my friend posted something about Hello and I needed a School, so I called you and
that's it! Instagram...
Teacher: And until now, you've been studying with us for like, what? Four months, right?
Rayssa: Yeah! Four months...
Teacher: Awesome! So, tell me about your learning process. What do you like the most about learning and what you believe
you have improved the most?
Rayssa: When I started the classes I didn't speak English, like, I knew some things but I couldn't speak.
Nowadays, I know more about English and I have more confidence to speak. And even when I don't know a word I can
explain (what it is). Well, I think now I am more prepared than before.
Teacher: That's awesome! You surely are! And how important is it for you to speak English now that you do so?
Rayssa: Nowadays it's very important for people to have a job that they speak English...a good job, of course! And English is
important cause you know more about people, cultures, countries... and I think that's it!
Teacher: And how areyou feeling about being able to watch things in English now?
Rayssa: In the beginning it was very hard! But now I understand better and when I don't know a word I can understand the
context... so nowadays it's nice and simple!
Teacher: Ok, so, last question: Why would you tell people to study with Hello (comment in Portuguese: não vale puxar saco!
Hahah)
Rayssa: Ok. Actually, I don't like teacher Amena! Kidding! haha. Teacher, I think I learned English very fast and Hello helped
me a lot. I couldn't speak English with anyone cause, first, I just couldn't speak! And I didn't have self-confidence. I learned
English easily and before I was afraid of speaking English! Today I consider myself better!
Teacher: I'm proud! haha. Alright, well, that was suppose to be the last question but I've just thought about another good
one: What's your favorite thing about the classes?
Rayssa: I think, hmmm, my classes are simple! Cause when I have a question you help me and I have a lot of
questions, right? And you help me with all of them. So, I like this and also that I learned everything, like writting, speaking,
listening and reading...It was very nice!
Teacher: That's good to hear! Okay! Thank you for your time, it was pretty amazing to have you here in your house!
Rayssa: Haha, no problem, bye guys!! See you later!
luck, girl Good
miss you We'll
NeXTpurchase made by Apple in 1996 brought Jobs back
to the company he co-founded, becoming then Apple's CEO
from 1997 to 2009, year in which he disclosed that he would
resign his post, and it would be assumed by Tim Cook, who is
until this day Apple';s chief executive officer.
Most of us use our cellphones without even thinking about
the impact it has on our lives. We wake up, check it and we do
it all day long until we go to bed. It's basically a part of our
daily lives. But, Have you ever thought of a world without the
personal computer and the smart phone? I bet it's pretty hard
to picture that. Well, it would not have been possible without
the efforts of the person who now is considered a legend:
Steve Jobs.
Steve Paul Jobs was an inventor, investor, business man,
and magnate born in 1955 in San Francisco, California. Jobs
was notorious for founding Apple Inc. and for revolutionizing
six fields of the industry: Personal computers, animation
movies, music, telephones, tablets and digital publishing. In
the late 70s, Jobs, along with Steve Wozniak and Mark
Markkula, among others, developed and commercialized
one of the first Lines of commercially successful personal
computers, the Apple II series.
During the early 80's he was among the few people that
realized the potential of the Grafical User Interface, guided by
the mouse (that little gadget we've known for years), which
led to the creation of the Macintosh.
Aside from his connection with Apple, Jobs also
purchased Pixar in its early days for around 5 million dollars,
Pixar later purchased Lucas Film which was ultimately bought
by Disney, making Steve Jobs the largest Disney shareholder.
And we haven';t even talked about the iPhone. Steve Jobs
passed away in 2011, and even after five years of his death he
was still considered the most relevant CEO of all according to
Google. Regardless of the polemical moments he had with his
family (witch is worth further reading) his impact on the way
we live will still be relevant for decades to come.
1984
2018
In 1985 Steve Jobs was fired from Apple after losing a
lawsuit against the board of Directors, he then founded NeXT,
an American computer and software company that developed
and manufactured a series of computer workstations
intended for the higher education and business markets.
Hello
A GO-TO-YOU SChool!
Located in one of the fastest growing cities in the country, which
today presents the 2nd largest GDP in Sao Paulo, 6th in Brazil, Hello
emerged in Osasco to add locally, being the first English school in the
city that takes the knowledge to the student.
More than a school, Hello was formed by a group of people; teachers
and travelers. Entrepreneurial, engaged and visionary people.
Founders of a company that believes in the power of education and
human development in the pursuit of a more conscientious and honest
society. We have emerged from the view that the knowledge must be
shared as it is the key to new opportunities, hence, for a better life and
a better world.
At Hello, we are always looking for improvements, new ways to solve
internal, personal and social problems, which reflects directly on the
way as we teach.
Having only motivating and challenging classes, we teach English
observing and working on individual difficulties, respecting the
diversity. This way we can teach the language lightly and objectively,
leading the student to their maximum performance, ensuring not only
fluency, but involvement with other cultures and areas of knowledge.
