ne of Akron’s most visible, influential 

and cultural champions in the early 

20th century, Stan Hywet matriarch 

Gertrude Seiberling also left a beautiful and 

very personal legacy in the works of art she 

created. 

Influenced by this legacy, the 2019 theme 

titled Lasting Impressions, celebrates 

Gertrude’s passion for painting, which she 

discovered late in life and continued to pursue 

until she could no longer hold a paintbrush. 

Stan Hywet’s curator has reached deep into 

the archives to identify a select collection of 

Gertrude’s most enduring canvases of the 

estate’s iconic gardens. They are showcased 

in Fused, a lush garden gallery exhibited 

throughout the estate. Blending her 

20th-century style with a contemporary 

edge, four well-known local artists were 

commissioned to create one-of-a-kind 

sculptures to complement the display. The 

Art of Gertrude’s Seiberling, the fifth book in 

a series on the estate, has also been released to 

coincide with the exhibit, and a gallery of her 

work is on display in the Manor House.

Dear Friends, 

As we’ve celebrated and shared our season of Art, Lasting 

Impressions, we reflect on all that Gertrude’s passion for art has 

inspired so far year. By showcasing her works throughout the 

Manor House and creating a one-of-a-kind metal sculpture exhibit 

throughout the grounds titled FUSED, guests have been moved 

to visit and have learned to appreciate the talents of Gertrude 

Seiberling. Fighting through the wettest spring since the 1800s, 

we’ve still seen more tour attendance than last year, welcoming over 

14,000 guests. In June, while we pushed through a rainy Father’s 

Day Car show, still welcoming over 2,000 guests, the month ended 

with a beautiful 24th Annual Summer Gala themed a Chef’s Canvas, 

enjoyed by more than 500 leaders and supporters from the community. Finally, in July, Stan 

Hywet hosted Off The Vine wine and culinary tasting during a sun drenched Friday evening. 

Over 900 guests sampled more than 60 varieties of wine and enjoyed food creations from Stan 

Hywet’s caterers and other partners while surrounded by the beauty of the gardens and estate. 

We now look forward to the remainder of the season throughout summer, fall and the 

beginning of winter, including the return of one of the best exotic auto shows in the country, 

the Molto Bella Auto Show. Very different from the iconic Father’s Day Car Show, the 7th 

annual show on September 8th will once again feature approximately 400 high caliber exotic 

cars, sports cars and rare classics from near and far accompanied by great food, drink and 

entertainment. The show benefits both Stan Hywet and the Kidney Foundation of Summit 

County and is distinguished by the many amazing cars that come together in one place, so 

that it stands alone among car shows in the area. 

Continuing the celebration of Art, Lasting Impressions, shoppers will be in frenzy at the 

fall Molly’s Boutique preview preceding Ohio Mart. As always, the 53rd Annual Ohio Mart 

is anchored by over 130 artisans showcased throughout the gardens accented by delicious fall 

treats. A fun start to the fall season! Also, this fall, the 11th Annual Murder in the Mansion 

season will present “A Brush with Death” for six shows over three weeks in October. The 

show will surely challenge your investigative wit as you maneuver throughout the Manor 

House interrogating suspect characters to figure out “who dun it”. 

Finally, the season will close out the holidays with one of our community’s favorite family 

traditions, Deck the Hall. This year’s fun theme is “Classic Comic Hero Christmas” with 

décor designed to celebrate the nostalgic super heroes and villains from years past. Showcasing 

over one million lights, anchored by Dazzle and Gingerbread Land, Stan Hywet will showcase 

the artistry of the hero comic book era partnering with local comic book shops, collectors and 

even Lego®. The Manor House will display scenes in more than 20 rooms throughout the 

home providing a fun holiday twist to the theme and creating holiday memories to share with 

friends and family while coming together around the warming fire in the courtyard to enjoy 

hot chocolate and warm gingerbread cookies. 

As we continue to host amazing events, the restoration and preservation of this national 

treasure continues. The commitment and progress of the restoration plan funded by the 

2nd Century Campaign in 2015, continues in the Manor House as each room is unveiled 

after being fully restored and back to life. The next phase of the Tea House and lagoon 

restoration will take place this fall as the lagoon is cleaned and restored. The celebration of the 

completion of these great works will continue with the community and all of you who have 

supported Stan Hywet in so many ways. The staff, volunteers and board of directors of Stan 

Hywet are forever thankful.

“Lost Voices of the Great War” 

GAR presents 

Essential Experiences 

at Stan Hywet 

At the core of Stan Hywet’s mission is a robust, 

award-winning education program that has evolved 

since 2012 in partnership with Akron Public Schools 

(APS), and its curriculum specialists. Developed to 

be a more lasting and impactful experience than the 

traditional field trip, each program takes full advantage 

of the estate’s numerous resources. The curriculum fully integrates Stan Hywet 

Hall & Garden’s archives, collections, gardens and grounds; a corps of dedicated 

interpreters; and professional staff who are experts creating a unique learning 

laboratory for the students. 

In 2018, this curriculum caught the attention of GAR Foundation. Centered 

on immigration and its impact at the estate and in the broader community in 

the early 20th century, the program was selected to become the basis for a new 

Essential Experiences initiative by the Foundation. With the Foundation’s grant 

support, the program will serve 100% of Akron Public school’s 5th grade students. 

Slated to launch in fall 2019, “Akron: City of Opportunity” will integrate onsite 

exploration and inquiry with digital story telling tools to relate the city’s 

immigrant past and current cultural communities, like the Bhutanese of Akron’s 

North Hill neighborhood. 

The education department led a 

two-year initiative to honor the 

100th anniversary of America’s 

entry into WWI, concluding in 

2018 with the release of a onehour 

documentary, “Lost Voices 

of the Great War.” The film 

shares stories of F.A. and Fred 

Seiberling, Goodyear employees 

and the company itself, as The 

Great War took over the lives of 

thousands of Americans during 

that tumultuous time in history. 

Education Director Toivo Motter 

led the effort in partnership 

with the University of Akron 

Archives, Akron-Summit County 

Public Library, The Summit 

County Historical Society and 

the MAPS Air Museum. Funded 

by an Ohio Humanities grant, 

the film was named an “official 

partner” of the United States 

WWI Centennial Commission. 

It won a “Best Community 

Partnership” award from the 

Ohio Museum Association, a 

Leadership in History award 

from the Association of State 

and Local History, and was also 

nominated for a 2019 Regional 

Emmy Award. 

GAR Foundation awarded Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens a threeyear 

grant that will pave the way for long-term sustainability of this 

important mission-driven commitment.

cars — at this year’s 7th annual Molto Bella 

Auto Show at Stan Hywet on September 8 

(rain date, Sept. 15). With the historic Manor 

House and gardens as a backdrop, the Great 

Meadow is uniquely suited to display the 

400 beautifully-designed exotic cars at this 

show. Molto Bella also features good food, 

beverages, music, and a leisurely day at the 

Stan Hywet estate.

A highlight this year, is the collection of 

traditional hot rods (1938 Chevys and 

1932 Fords) of the late Elton “Sonny” 

Hunt, (known at the “Rodfather”) that 

will be on display at this year’s Molto 

Bella. Also on display is a 1931 Auburn, 

owned by Chad and Jennie Caldwell, 

winner of the Great American Race. 

Molto Bella benefits both Stan Hywet 

and the Kidney Foundation of Summit 

County. The Molto Bella show is a 

tribute to the late Mel Todaro who 

passed away from kidney cancer when 

the first show was just a concept.

captured during 

Gala June 21 

The time-honored and uniquely Stan Hywet tradition, a 

Midsummer’s Night Gala, treated guests to a stunning night of 

celebration. From the white-gloved butler greeting guests at the 

front door to strolling down the twinkle-lit garden path at the 

close of the evening, the soiree was marked with the gentility 

and grace of a bygone era. A passion for the arts was evident 

and a fitting tribute to Gertrude Seiberling. Artistry abounded 

in the form of scenes captured on canvas by local plein air artists 

from the Akron Society of Artists, elegantly sophisticated floral 

arrangements and culinary presentations. The West Terrace 

buzzed with guests anxious to view the summer solstice, with 

the final peaks of sunlight dramatically setting behind the treeframed 

Overlook. A highlight of the evening was an auction 

for 20 guests to enjoy Dinner in the Dining Room, an exclusive 

experience in the historic Dining Room of the Manor House. 

Guest auctioneer, Dave Lieberth did the honors and awarded 

the experience to the highest bidder. Deepest gratitude is 

extended to the Gala Chairs, Jennifer and Timothy DelMedico, 

presenting sponsors The Lehner Family Foundation and The J.M. 

Smucker Company, as well as the many sponsors, over 500 guests, 

contributors and volunteers. Their efforts helped raise over 

$130,000 in net proceeds to benefit the continued preservation 

of this historic estate. 

A Perfect 

Summer Evening 

Off the Vine set a new tone for guests to enjoy a beautiful 

summer evening at the Estate. Nearly 900 came together 

on July 19th to sip, savor and experience more than 

60 wines, curated by presenting partner Heidelberg 

Distributing, and tapas-style culinary creations prepared 

by Stan Hywet’s catering partners. As guests mingled 

throughout the estate, 

enjoying live music and the

were overheard saying 

they look forward to the 

next one! We do, too.

Who is the murderer? What is the motive? Interrogate 

the suspects and figure out this whodunit. The evening 

concludes with light refreshments in the Manor House 

Reception Hall where all will be revealed. 

Geared toward participants ages 17 years and older, this program 

requires long periods of standing, as well as walking up and down 

stairs in the Manor House.

the Akron Marathon 

and for many years, 

runners often caught 

their first glimpse of 

the estate when they 

ran through the property 

along the 26.2 mile route. 

In late 2018, Stan Hywet president 

Sean Joyce answered a call from 

Marathon officials that led to an 

important announcement. On 

September 28, 2019, Stan Hywet 

becomes the new starting line for the 

Akron Marathon. So grab your cow 

bells and signs and witness runners 

from around the world charge out 

the Front Gate as they begin their tour 

of city landmarks and neighborhoods 

on foot.

Inspired by the paintings of Gertrude Seiberling, a 

garden installation of 15 one-of-a-kind metal sculptures 

comprise this outdoor exhibit. It complements 

Gertrude’s paintings on display in the Manor House, 

and is part of this year’s theme, Lasting Impressions, 

a celebration of her art. Stan Hywet staff member and 

artist Joe Ott, and three local artists — Mike Ensminger, 

Megan Louise Shane, and Kim Thomas —created the 

unique metal works. All of the sculptures in the exhibit 

are for sale. Inquire at Molly’s Shop for details.

Now fans and friends of Stan Hywet can

organizational license plate, prominently 

featuring the Stan Hywet name and logo. This 

initiative is a new chapter in the Seiberling story 

and the potential for thousands of cars on the 

road to celebrate the family’s gift to the people 

of Akron. 

The license plate makes for a good 

conversation starter, and a fun way to generate 

awareness of our national historic treasure. 

The new marketing tool is the result of 

a two-year effort led by Executive Assistant 

Carolyn Hritz, following through on a 

suggestion made by long-time volunteer, donor 

and personal friend of the Seiberling family, 

Hugh West. Hugh has a long connection to the 

auto industry: his family opened West Chevrolet 

in Akron in 1934, and Hugh maintained 

ownership until 1988, when it was sold. Several 

Seiberling family members were among his 

customers. 

Hugh and Phyllis West sport the first Stan Hywet 

plate. 

“I know how proud the Seiberlings were 

of Stan Hywet. The new license plate is a way to 

show our pride in return. We will be promoting 

the estate wherever we drive in the U.S.” said West.

Ohio Mart ushers in the fall season of 

cooler weather, and a landscape of yellows 

and reds — it’s also the opportunity to spend 

a day (or a weekend) shopping at this annual 

artisan fair, while enjoying another Ohio Mart 

tradition: hot gingerbread cookies. 

The 53rd annual Ohio Mart, October 3-6, 

is proudly produced by the Auxiliary Board as 

a fundraiser for the estate. The centerpiece is 

the array of exhibitors’ tents with incredible 

shopping from artisans selling jewelry, 

photography, textiles, ceramics, wearable art 

and more. Visitors may enjoy the autumn 

weather and beautiful gardens, peruse the 

unusual and the collectible at Vintage Finds, 

find a dried flower arrangement in The 

Garden Shop, or handmade crafts in The Craft 

Shop. Molly’s Boutique features the latest in 

fine fashion and Ex Libris sells gently used 

books. 

The Sweepstakes Raffle —another way to support Ohio 

Mart and the estate — has been refreshed, with a focus on

Textile Arts and Artisan Show,

In Memory and Gratitude 

Longtime Ohio Mart 

volunteer, Karen Thomas, 

passed away in June 

after a long illness. Karen 

had many interests and 

volunteered for many 

organizations, and at 

Stan Hywet, she donated 

at least 4,500 volunteer 

hours. Karen served on 

the Ohio Mart exhibitor 

committee for 29 years, and for many years, 

was the co-chair of the committee. In this 

role, she had the opportunity to meet and 

bring many outstanding artists to Ohio Mart. 

She is greatly missed. To honor Karen’s 

memory, the Ohio Mart committee has 

created a special award for exhibitors, Karen 

Thomas Memorial Award of Excellence.

THWACK! The gallant and intrepid team in Stan 

Hywet’s Collections Department is doing an audacious 

job planning this year’s Manor House adventure for Deck 

the Hall, A Classic Comic Hero Christmas. 

Nineteen rooms in the Manor House will be themed 

with the stories of classic comic heroes, including favorites 

like Wonder Woman, Superman, Spiderman, and Thor. 

And while they are slightly outside of the “classic” comic 

hero time frame, the Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers are 

nostalgic for a younger generation, and part of the display. 

To achieve the look, this collaborative effort relies on a 

cadre of champion decorating partners. 

It’s all about Batman in The Library, fearlessly

their second year of Deck the Hall decorating. And look! 

It’s Superman in the Music Room! Cleveland designer 

Edward Sajovic has created a setting that befits the action 

hero that started it all. Superman stands near a Super Tree 

of stacked gifts wrapped in primary colors of polka dot 

and glittered boxes – with additional boxes in tribute to 

Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, Cleveland natives and creators 

of Superman. Completing the room are “bang, pow, and 

smash” trees, with paper holly leaf garlands accented with 

comic strips and red berries. 

Local non-profit Akron Makerspace is bringing a 

spunky, creative approach to the design of the Tower 

and its theme of POW! Kern’s Home & Gardens, has 

an amazing design planned for the Blue Room with a 

Spiderman theme. The superhuman Stan Hywet Flower 

Arrangers are decorating the Reception Room with 

comic book crafts. Christmas decorations and superhero

mosaics made from LEGO® bricks are featured 

in the Great Hall, created by the very talented 

Northeast Ohio LEGO User Group (NEO LUG). 

An evening of Deck the Hall begins in 

the Courtyard where Santa valiantly lights 

the Christmas tree each evening at 5:30pm 

(Gingerbread Man takes over this noble duty after 

Christmas). After the tree-lighting, Santa eagerly 

awaits all children and the young-at-heart, so that 

they can share their epic Christmas wishes with 

him and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in 

Rudolph’s Corral. Near Santa are the fanciful 

animated shop windows —vintage Akron of the 

1920s, and four bakers in perpetual motion at the 

entrance to Molly’s. 

Comic heroes also land in the Corbin 

Conservatory, which will feature a Green Lantern 

superhero theme. The Greenhouse wings will 

again feature a traditional poinsettia tree, always 

popular with guests for a fun and memorable 

holiday photo op. 

The Birch Tree Allée and the West Terrace are 

perfect places to enjoy a winter stroll, illuminated 

by an imposing one million holiday lights that 

sparkle throughout the estate. Dazzle features three 

new songs to captivate guests, and Gingerbread 

Land (Playgarden boldly dressed up for Christmas) 

promises a new surprise this season.

The Golden Age of comics began with 

the introduction of Superman in 1938 in 

Action Comics #1. Heroic people with 

superhuman abilities ballooned into 

a widespread genre and lasted until 

1950. Popularity waned during the 50s, 

after psychiatrist Fredric Wertham, in 

his best-selling book, Seduction of the 

Innocent, warned that comic books were 

leading youth into crime, violence and 

drug abuse. The industry recovered in 

the 1960s, the Silver Age of comic books 

when DC Comics began publishing 

revised versions of the 1940s superhero 

characters with more of a science 

fiction focus. Marvel Comics introduced 

characters such as Spider-Man, the 

Hulk, Iron Man and others – characters 

with more complex personalities, and 

more dramatic potential.

Chinese Collar 

The Chinese Collar was returned over 

the summer and re-installed over the fire 

place in the Solarium. 

Bell Pulls 

The Stan Hywet Needlework Guild 

is funding the recreation of the five tassels 

for the bell pulls in the Great Hall, Round 

Room, Music Room, Cromwell Bedroom 

and Solarium; they are in production at 

Samuel & Sons, a New York City company 

that specializes in custom fringes, trims and 

tassels. Samuel & Sons recreated the piping 

and tassels for the light fixture over the 

Billiard Room pool table. 

K’ossu Tapestry 

The K’ossu Tapestry hung on the wall 

in the Solarium near the doors to the 

Music Room, but was removed and put 

in storage in 2015 due to its extremely 

fragile condition. As the piece is too 

fragile to display for any length of time, 

the collections team is working with Jane 

Hammond, the textile conservator at ICA- 

Cleveland, to have the original tapestry 

photographed and digitally reprinted by 

Kent State University’s Fashion School 

digital print lab. The reproduction piece

Restoration 

Update 

The collections team has been busy with restoration projects in the 

Manor House, part of the $1M Room-by-Room Restoration, funded 

by donors to the 2nd Century Campaign in 2015. Here’s a list of 

current projects:

Torchieres 

ICA-Cleveland is restoring two 

torchieres outside the entrance to the Great 

Hall off the Linenfold Hallway. The fabric 

rod and base are being re-upholstered with 

silk damask; the repairs will preserve and 

stabilize these pieces. 

Breakfast Room 

Restoration of the Breakfast Room will 

begin soon. Many of the original Delft tiles 

on the fireplace surround were damaged 

by the family’s frequent use, and about 40 

tiles are missing due to repeated exposure 

to heat. The fireplace surround will be 

recreated, and the new tiles will match the 

original in design and appearance. 

Music Room Reveal 

The restored Music Room reveal for 

The Babcox family, took place on Saturday, 

April 6. This celebratory event included 

Bill Babcox and his wife, Patty; and other 

family members. Stan Hywet is grateful for 

the generous donation of $280,000 from 

The Babcox Family Foundation for the 

restoration of the Music Room.

Community 

Bank project 

Before 

ARRC is working on the redevelopment of the Westfield Bank 

building, purchased in November, 2018 by Portage Community 

Bank. Located at Portage Trail & Second Street in Cuyahoga 

Falls, this will be the bank’s third location, and first in Summit 

County. The current structure was actually four connected 

buildings with a non-descript main entrance from a parking 

lot. Two of the buildings have been demolished, with the main 

entrance repositioned to Portage Trail, creating a more defined 

“entry sequence” for customers and employees alike. The 

façade is being redesigned in a neo-Classical look that takes 

architectural cues from the nearby post office, while matching 

the colors of these historic buildings in the neighborhood. 

According to Mark Gilles, “We’re taking the desires of 

the city of Cuyahoga Falls and the branding of the Portage 

Community Bank and blending them together, for a strong 

architectural presence in the historic district.” 

ARRC is the construction manager and Braun & Steidl is the 

architect of record. The grand opening of the restored bank is 

slated for fall, 2019.

Kirby’s Mill at Richfield 

Heritage Preserve 

ARRC is providing preservation consulting to Braun & Steidl, the primary architect of 

the restoration of the historic mill at Richfield Heritage Preserve in Richfield, Ohio. 

Inventor Jim Kirby constructed the mill in 1922 to produce hydroelectric power for 

his home and workshop. The millwheel was the first of its kind, designed by Kirby 

so that its weight rested on ball bearings — it could turn with just a trickle of water. 

Founder of the Kirby Vacuum Cleaner Co., Kirby held 200 patents on everyday practical 

items including the wringer-less washing machine, a dry cleaning machine, and 

window washer. Kirby sold the property to the Girl Scouts in 1937, and it was a Girl 

Scout camp until 2014, when it became a community park. 

Merriman Road 

Residence 

ARRC is also working on a kitchen addition at a residence on 

Merriman Road, designed by architect Roy Firestone. Since the 

goal is to build an addition that matches seamlessly with the 

1920s building and the original detail, most of the addition is 

being customized to this house. 

Greenwood Farm 

In the Cleveland suburb of Richmond Heights, ARRC is assisting 

with the restoration master plan of Greenwood Farm. Originally 

the home of George and Maude Phypers, the 16.9 acre property 

is owned by the city of Richmond Heights. The property 

includes a 5,500 sq. ft. house built in 1917, as well as a 19th 

century barn and cottage. ARRC is working on a proposal for a 

master study so Richmond Heights can begin the fundraising 

process to restore the building and gardens to support its 

continued use as a community center.

One of Akron’s most visible, influential and cultural champions in the early 

20th Century, Stan Hywet matriarch Gertrude Seiberling also left a beautiful 

and very personal legacy in the works of art she created. 

Influenced by this legacy, the 2019 theme titled Lasting Impressions, tells 

the story of a passion Gertrude discovered late in life and continued to 

pursue until she could no longer hold a paintbrush.

IRENE & VIRGINIA 

The Seiberling had two daughters. Nine years apart 

in age, Irene and Virginia enjoyed the same upbringing 

in Akron surrounded by four brothers and a large 

extended family. Both attended Westover School 

in Middlebury, Connecticut. Virginia married Jack 

Handy of Cleveland right after graduation and had 

six children in quick succession. Irene attended a 

travel school in Paris, France before returning to Akron 

to champion many local and national cause such 

as women’ su frage, child hunger, and the American 

Red Cross to name just a few. She did not marry 

until the age of 33 and confessed to her friends and 

families that she had no thought sh ever would. 

Both sister settled in New York just outside of New 

York City and became reacquainted as adults. Though 

close, they had very di ferent personalities. Irene 

was outspoken, loyal, quick tempered, and passionate 

while Virginia was artistic, (sh enjoyed singing and 

painting like her mother) domestic and gentle.

the gardens and Corbin Conservatory. 

Class is held rain or shine and may be moved to 

an indoor location in case of inclement weather.

Akron Black Stockings, Stan Hywet’s resident 

vintage base ball (historically accurate spelling)

Akron Marathon

drumroll… the Front Gate of Stan Hywet! The 

Estate opens late at 1pm, following the Akron 

Marathon. Last admission at 4:30pm, grounds

About Vintage Base Ball 

Vintage base ball emphasizes true 

sportsmanship and friendly competition. It is a 

“gentleman’s game,” and all players must treat 

their opponents and umpires with the utmost 

respect. There is no bunting or sliding in vintage 

base ball. Uncivil language, ungentlemanly 

behavior, spitting and alcohol are also prohibited 

at games and are “punishable by fine.” In 

addition, safety equipment was not used in the 

1860s so vintage base ball “clubs” (teams) play 

each other without helmets, catcher’s masks or 

gloves. While considerably different, the modern 

spectator (a “crank”) will recognize today’s game 

at these vintage “matches.” 

Migrating Monarchs - Butterfly Tag

guarantee a butterfly for tagging. 

Each autumn, millions of monarchs migrate 

2,000 miles in search of a new home. Why do 

they do this? How do they survive the journey? 

Discover the answers to these questions, then 

tag your very own monarch for release. You’ll 

also learn how to follow your butterfly online 

using the Monarch Watch website. Ticket 

includes one tag and one butterfly to release 

and a self-guided grounds tour.

Murder in the Mansion: 

A BRUSH WITH DEATH

Suspects! Motives! Mystery! It’s an incredible 

interactive evening experience taking place on 

select evenings in October. The Seiberlings 

are hosting an art auction for works by an 

up-and-coming gallery artist, but suddenly a 

murder takes place in the Manor House. Who is 

the murderer? What is the motive? Interrogate 

the suspects and figure out this whodunit. The 

evening concludes with light refreshments in 

the Manor House Auditorium where all will be 

revealed. 

Geared toward participants, ages 17 years and 

older, this program requires long periods of 

standing, as well as walking up and down stairs 

in the Manor House.

Making “Sense” of Stan Hywet for all 

Scouts (5-7 years) 

October 20, 1-3 pm. Arrive by 12:40pm. 

Program will start in the Courtyard.

Scouts will use their five senses to discover 

and record a variety of often-overlooked details, 

in the historic Manor House, and in several 

gardens. Materials for designing a take-away 

field notebook is included in admission. This

Indoor/Outdoor STEM program for Daisy Girl 

Scouts.

Terri Bay will teach the “Mini Grace” Ukrainian 

Whitework. This basic-to-intermediate level 

project is stitched on ecru 28-count linen 

using ecru pearl cotton. Stitches used include 

satin, double cable, eyelet and half eyelet. The 

finished piece is 4” x 4” in. 

Students should bring their usual 

stitching supplies, plus small sharp 

Hardanger-type scissors and an 8” hoop or 

Q-Snap. Magnification is recommended, and
