This book is an excerpt from a video<br />

teaching by John Maxwell that I<br />

watched on a consistent basis to<br />

remind me that the bigger I dream, the bigger<br />

the price I'll have to pay to make for my<br />

dreams to happen. I hope it encourages you<br />

and challenges you to make the necessary<br />

decisions and pay the right price that will set<br />

you for exploits.<br />

That's why I'm never impressed when people<br />

say, “Well, I have a dream” So does everyone,<br />

you go to sleep and you get one. I'm really not<br />

impressed with your dream. “Well, I've<br />

wri en out my goals.” That's wonderful. That<br />

means you had a li le me and a book, pen or<br />

a computer.<br />

What really impresses me is not your dream.<br />

What really impresses me is when you show<br />

me how you're going to pay for it. What really<br />

impresses me is how you are going to get<br />

there. You start telling me the price you're<br />

going to pay, the hours you're going to give up,<br />

the rela onships you won't have, the money<br />

you will spend, the me, energy, and effort.<br />

Everything has a price. The bigger the dream,<br />

the higher the payment. Small dreams, small<br />

prices. Big dreams, big prices… Any person<br />

that got to the top, paid a price to get there.<br />

price isn't much at the bo om.<br />

What are some of your dreams? What are<br />

some of the things you're going to give up to<br />

much more than the literal financial cost that<br />

is almost certain that will be necessary; the<br />

true cost of receiving a degree from an<br />

ins tu on of learning is more in line with<br />

what Webster defines as “that which must be<br />

given, or undergone, in order to obtain a<br />

thing.” In a simple word, Sacrifice.<br />

A very common myth about a ending an<br />

ins tu on of higher learning is that it is too<br />

expensive. Yes, it can be expensive, but once<br />

students understand what higher ins tu on<br />

really costs, you will realize that your higher<br />

educa on is within reach. Likewise, a dream,<br />

when you understand the cost of actualizing<br />

yours, a dream that will not only benefits you<br />

but your genera on yet unborn and the world<br />

at large, you will know that the price is within<br />

your reach.<br />

The biggest part of college costs is usually<br />

tui on and remember your tui on is the price<br />

you pay for classes. Along with tui on, more<br />

than likely you will have to pay some other<br />

fees to enroll and a end a higher ins tu on.<br />

Other university costs include room and<br />

board, books and supplies, transporta on,<br />

and personal expenses. Just like tui on, these<br />

costs vary from ins tu on to ins tu on;<br />

likewise dream also varies from one individual<br />

to another.<br />

Those sacrifices are not going to be easy or<br />

they would not be called “sacrifices”. A<br />

sacrifice is never easy and more than likely it<br />

will affect more than one person. If you are<br />

willing to give up your me, are you the only<br />

person that is giving up me? Perhaps, the<br />

sacrifice of your me will also mean a sacrifice<br />

for your family. How many spor ng events,<br />

dance recitals, party, scout mee ngs, school<br />

events and other ac vi es will you be willing<br />

to miss in order to pursue your dream of a<br />

university educa on?<br />

In pursuit of your dream just like a ending a<br />

higher ins tu on, what will you sacrifice<br />

willingly to a end the height you wish to<br />

a end. Are you ready to sacrifice your me,<br />

rela onship, pleasure, crowd in order to<br />

achieve this dream? A major ques on that<br />

needs to be addressed by you; is that dream<br />

worth all the sacrifices?<br />

Consider the situa on that you are currently<br />

in, perhaps you are a single parent or a school<br />

dropout or you don't have capital to start up<br />

something that you've wished to start. While<br />

the decision to achieve your dream is<br />

admirable, and it is very much worth<br />

pursuing, what price must you pay in order for<br />

it to happen? Certainly, there is a much higher<br />

burden than a financial one in order to<br />

achieve your dream. The most likely outcome<br />

is you spending a considerable amount of<br />

me away from your friends or qui ng those<br />

things that used to give you pleasure, when in<br />

reality you would much rather be with them,<br />

than in isola on<br />

So what decision will you make? Only you can<br />

make that decision. Just as you are the only<br />

one that can answer the ques ons regarding<br />

the decision you will make when it comes to<br />

your decision. Have you considered your<br />

sacrifices? It is going to<br />

take some introspec on. There is a much<br />

All too o en, people are higher burden than<br />

looking for someone to a nancial one in<br />

p r o v i d e t h e m t h e order to achieve a<br />

answer. It is like they are dream<br />

screaming “Tell me what<br />

to do, please!” You might want to ask a family<br />

member or a friend for advice but, ul mately,<br />

you have to make the decision regarding your<br />

own decision and the sacrifices you are willing<br />

to make.<br />

Beside sacrifices, believe in yourself. Theodor<br />

Geisel be er known as Dr. Seuss was told by<br />

his high school art teacher that he could not<br />

draw and 27 publishers said that he could not<br />

even write, however, he focused on his talent<br />

and above all he believed in himself. He has<br />

had many highly successful kids' books that<br />

have a clever way of teaching strong lessons.<br />

Finally, a publisher took a chance on him and<br />

in 1937 they published “And to think I saw it<br />

on Mulberry Street”. Theodor Geisel a.k.a Dr.<br />

Seuss passed away in 1991 and according to<br />

Google 25 years a er his death, Dr. Seuss<br />

quotes are searched roughly 135,000 mes<br />

per month.<br />

This book is by no means trying to dissuade<br />

you from moving towards your dream; I am<br />

just simply asking you to consider how your<br />

decision will impact others. Yes, the sacrifices<br />

can be great but the rewards can make them<br />

worthwhile! This book consists of eight<br />

concise chapters, I will plead with you to go<br />

through each chapter with an expecta on of<br />

ge ng something big. There is no point<br />

rushing over what you do not understand;<br />

digest it, let it absorb into your body and<br />

assimilate for a boun ful harvest. I strongly<br />

believe if you get the right principles, you will<br />

succeed.<br />

Remember the words of Walt Disney, 'if you<br />

can dream it, you can do it'.<br />

I pray that every chapter of this book will be<br />

an eye opener that will set your mind to<br />

achieving your dream and to be a blessing to<br />

your immediate genera on and the one yet<br />

unborn.<br />
