Everyone is getting into the Act!

Well for the longest time it
was just the United States and the
Russians that were battling each
other back in the 60s in the Space
Race. Not anymore! While the current
administration is set to go back
to the moon and then Mars, many
more countries are getting into the
act. In the next several months we
will see a plethora of countries and
commercial launches with flights
into either the International Space
Station, the testing of orbital spacecraft,
or actually landing on other
planets or moons.
China is charging forward
with its desire to land astronauts
on the moon. France, backed by
the European Space Agency, will
launch its Arianespace Vega rocket
from French Guiana. India is
also planning a soft landing on
the moon in September. Japan will
launch its cargo supply ship from
Tanegashima Space Center in Japan
to rendezvous with the International
Space Station. Italy is using
France’s Arianespace Vega rocket
to launch its COSMO-SkyMed satellite.
Don’t forget commercial
US companies that are also shooting
for outer space, the moon, and
the planets. Along with SpaceX,
are Virgin Orbit’s LauncherOne

Aug. 24: The Russian unpiloted
Soyuz MS-14 spacecraft will dock
at the International Space Station.
Aug. 27: The SpaceX Dragon CRS-
18 cargo craft will depart the International
Space Station.
Also, in August:
• A Russian Rocket vehicle will
launch a GEO-IK 2 spacecraft satellite
that will measure variations in
Earth’s gravitational field. It will lift
off from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome.
September
Sept. 2: An Arianespace Vega rocket
will launch on the Small Spacecraft
Mission Service (SSMS)
proof-of-concept mission with multiple
small satellites from Kourou,
French Guiana.
Sept. 6: India’s Chandrayaan-2 mission
will arrive at the moon.
Sept. 10: Japan will launch the

SpaceX’s “Starhopper”, the latest in the
company’s desire to launch people into
space.
HTV-8 cargo resupply mission to
the International Space Station. It
will lift off from the Tanegashima
Space Center on a Japanese H-2B
rocket.
Sept. 25: Three new Expedition 61
crewmembers will launch to the
International Space Station in the
Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft: NASA
astronaut Jessica Meir, Russian cosmonaut
Oleg Skripochka, and Hazzaa
Ali Almansoori of the United
Arab Emirates.
Also, in September:
• The Boeing CST-100 Starliner
may launch on its first un-crewed
mission, called the Orbital Flight
Test (OFT), to the International
Space Station. It will lift off from
Cape Canaveral Air Force Station
in Florida on a United Launch Alliance
Atlas V rocket.
• India’s Small Satellite Launch
Vehicle (SSLV) will launch on its
first orbital test flight. It will launch
from the Satish Dhawan Space Center
in Sriharikota, India.
October
Oct. 2: In a Change of Command
ceremony at the International Space
Station, Russian Cosmonaut Alexey
Ovchinin will hand over command
of the space station to European
Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano.
Oct. 3: NASA astronaut Nick
Hague, Russian cosmonaut Alexey
Ovchinin and Hazzaa Ali Almansoori
of the United Arab Emirates
will return to Earth from the International
Space Station.
Oct. 21: Northrop Grumman will
launch the Cygnus NG-12 cargo
mission to the International Space
Station. It will lift off from Wallops
Island, Virginia.
Also, in October:
• India will launch the first Cartosat
3-series Earth observation satellite.
• A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is
expected to launch the second batch
of approximately 60 satellites for
SpaceX’s Starlink constellation.
November
Nov. 20: A Russian Soyuz rocket
will launch 32 satellites for One-
Web’s global satellite internet constellation.
It will lift off from the
Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Nov. 20: Russia will use a Proton
rocket to launch the Elektro-L 3
geostationary weather satellite from
the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
Also, in November:
• Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner
will launch on its first crewed
test flight to the International
Space Station.
• Crew Dragon Demo 2:
SpaceX’s Crew Dragon
spacecraft is scheduled to
take its first crewed test flight
to the International Space Station
with NASA astronauts
Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken on
board. This will be the Crew Dragon’s
first test flight with astronauts
on board.
• An Arianespace Vega rocket will
launch the United Arab Emirates’
Falcon Eye 2 Earth observation satellite
from Kourou, French Guiana.
• A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will
lannch the JCSAT 18/Pacific 1 communications
satellite from Cape Canaveral
Air Force Station in Florida.
• Virgin Orbit’s LauncherOne rocket
will launch 14 cubesats for the
ELaNa-20 rideshare mission. A
Boeing 747 named “Cosmic Girl”
will air-launch the rocket over the
Pacific Ocean after taking off from
the Mojave Air and Space Port in
California.
• An Arianespace Soyuz rocket will
launch the first COSMO-SkyMed
Second Generation (CSG 1) radar
surveillance satellite for the Italian
space agency. Flying as a secondary
payload is the European Space
Agency’s Characterizing Exoplanet
Satellite (CHEOPS). The mission
will lift off from the Guiana Space
Center in French Guiana.
• India’s Small Satellite Launch Vehicle
(SSLV) will launch on its first
commercial mission with four Earth
observation satellites for Black-
Sky Global. It will lift off from the
Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota,
India.
December
Dec. 20: A Russian Soyuz rocket
will launch a Progress cargo delivery
spacecraft to the International
Space Station.
Also, in December
• A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will
launch the third GPS 3 satellite for
the U.S. Air Force’s Global Positioning
System from Cape Canaveral
Air Force Station in Florida.
• The U.S. Air Force’s super-secret
X-37B space plane will launch on
its sixth classified mission. A United
Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket
will launch the mission from Cape
Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
• China will return the first lunar
sample return mission attempted
since 1976.
• An International Launch Services
Proton rocket will launch the Eutelsat
5 West B communications satellite
and the first Mission Extension
Vehicle for Northrop Grumman.
Natures Way Of Purifying The Air
You Breathe In Your Home

We, as Americans, are estimated
to spend more time indoors
than our ancestors did. It may be
as much as ninety percent for most
of us. Indoor settings seem as safe
surroundings on the surface, but
these environments can hold a slew
of harmful chemicals. Some of
these chemicals may include toluene
(paint thinners), xylene (common
tar), ammonia (fertilizers and
cleaners), benzene, trichloroethylene
(man-made fibers and printed
materials), and formaldehyde
(insecticides and particle board).
These types of toxins are naturally
dangerous to all people but can be
extremely harmful for those with
respiratory illnesses such as Chronic
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
(COPD).
Here are some suggestions of ways
that you can help purify the air
you are breathing to enhance your
health for yourself and others.
Beeswax Candles
Beeswax candles are just
candles made from beeswax. The
difference with these candles than
regular ones is that they do not emit
any smoke. Traditional candles are
usually derived from petroleum and
may release benzene, toluene, or
soot into the air. In contrast, beeswax
candles are producing negative
ions in the air that will help
remove air pollutions and other toxins
in our air. Still another benefit
of a beeswax candle is that it burns
much slower than traditional wax
or paraffin candles, meaning they
last longer and won’t have to be replaced
as often.
Salt Lamps
Himalayan salt lamps are
made of a pink rock salt mined in
the Indo-Gangetic Plain. When one
of these of suitable size is found,
it is converted into a salt lamp. It
is created by carving a hollow into

the crystal and replacing it with an
incandescent bulb. When the heat
is emitted from the base it creates
negative ions into the air which
help to remove toxins in the air and
neutralize them. These Himalayan
salt lamps are known for their beautiful
pinkish glow and best of all
they may help promote sleep and a
feeling of well-being. Note: Please
keep your salt lamps out of reach of
dogs and cats as they may lick the
lamp and become very sick, noting
that cats may also climb, you may
want to keep a hard metal frame
around it.
Purifying Plants (Peace Lilly)
Besides being an attractive addition
to your home, plants are biologically
engineered to take in carbon dioxide
and convert it to oxygen. Not
all types of plants can achieve the
best air for your environment. There
are some specific types of plants
that also work to take in harmful
chemicals and other pollutants such
as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene,
toluene, xylene, and
ammonia. NASA has suggested the
peace lily as the most beneficial
of all air-purifying house plants,
which requires very little water or
sunlight. It considered one of the
most beautiful but actively takes in
all the toxins to produce oxygen.
Bamboo Charcoal
Also known as activated
charcoal, bamboo charcoal is odorless
and highly absorptive. Sometimes
it is used as a do-it-yourself
water filter. This charcoal can have
the same effect in purifying your air
by removing toxins and odor in the
air. It is usually packaged in a linen
bag. The bamboo charcoal works
to absorb unpleasant odors, remove
bacteria, harmful pollutants, and
allergens. Also, it can dehumidify
air. The most remarkable aspect of
bamboo charcoal is its longevity. It
is entirely safe for children and pets,
and this bamboo charcoal can rejuvenate
itself if placed in sunlight
once a month and can be reused for
up to two years. As an added benefit
it can also be used as a fertilizer.

California First Responder Day!
Senator Mike Morrell was
successful in getting a State Resolution
adopted which establishes
September 23rd as First Responder
Day in the state of California.
A first responder is an employee
of an emergency service
who is likely to be among the first
people to arrive at and assist at the
scene of an emergency such as an
accident, natural disaster, or terrorist
attack. First responders typically
include police officers, deputy
sheriffs, firefighters, paramedics,
and rescuers, and even volunteers.
However, some will tell you, “first
responders are the people you see
running in when everyone else is
running out”.

moment out of your busy life this
month and THANK a deputy, a firefighter,
a patrol officer and others
- first responders give much more
than many people realize – just doing
their jobs in serving and protecting
the citizens of our mountain
