“Enrich and Equip”
Enrichment offer at Brunts from September 2019 (Year 7)
In partnership with The Children’s
University & Nottingham Trent University

What is “Enrich & Equip”?
Enrich and Equip is a programme of extra-curricular activities
that will run on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
between 2.50pm and 3.50pm.
You will be expected to take part in at least 1 activity per halfterm.
You may take part in more if you wish.
You will decide which activities you would like to do each half
term. You will be given a 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd choice of options.
Activity Groups
There are 3 activity groups from which you can choose (the
more groups you pick from, the greater the benefits!)
• Physical/Sport (Red): To release energy, develop sporting
skills and encourage teamwork and communication.
• Creative/Culture (Green): To develop an appreciation of
the world around us and to encourage students to explore
and innovate.
• Academic/Logical (Blue): To join together theory and
practice while developing a love of learning.

Pupil/Family information: Enrich and Equip & Children’s University (CU)
Children’s University (CU) will recognise and reward your participation on the Enrich and Equip
programme in Y7.
What is CU all about? It is a national scheme that celebrates the learning that takes place out of school
time (before school, during lunchtime, after school, at weekends or in school holidays). As Enrich and
Equip is taking place after school, CU is going to be the vehicle used to accredit your time on the
scheme! All Enrich and Equip activities are part of CU. When you join Enrich and Equip, you will be
given a CU Passport to Learning. For every hour of Enrich and Equip activity you complete you will get
a stamp in your Passport to Learning.
You will collect stamps* and…
When you have 30 you will get your Bronze Award
At 65 stamps you will be awarded your Silver Award
When you have received 100 stamps, you will be invited to receive your Gold Award at a very
special graduation ceremony at Nottingham Trent University!
What happens after I achieve my Gold Award? We think reaching gold is a fantastic achievement!
You can finish CU at that point. But if you are really enjoying CU and want to carry on collecting stamps,
you can! For more information on the other award levels, take a look in your Passport to Learning.
Can I collect stamps anywhere else? Yes! There are lots of CU activities (sometimes called learning
destinations). When you have been involved in Enrich and Equip for a while, you might like to look at
additional ways to collect CU stamps in the local community and even across the country! All CU
activities are checked to make sure they offer you the chance to do some high quality and fun learning!
There are lots of ways to find out where you can go to collect CU stamps:
Every half term we will send you a newsletter with ideas on additional places to travel to with
your Passport to Learning (and sometimes some activity sheets too so you can try some CU
activities at home!)
The CU Trust has a website listing all the places you can visit www.childrensuniversity.co.uk
How do I use my Passport to Learning? As soon as you receive your passport you can fill in the front
page! Then, you just need to take it to every Enrich and Equip activity you go to so that you can collect
your stamps. Keep it safe; sometimes we will ask you to bring it into school so we can count how
many stamps you have!
The CU Trust is launching a new website and there might be the possibility of you having an online
Passport to Learning too, we will let you know about this in due course.

Autumn 1 Activities: (3 rd September-18 th October)
Handball - Would you like to play one of the fastest growing
sports in the UK and one of the most popular in Europe?
Come along and give handball a try after school – a fastpaced,
contact based invasion game with similarities to 5-aside
football and basketball.
Rugby
Learn how to play the beautiful game of Rugby. Rugby is a
contact sport that will help build and instil values of
teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship
while making friends and having fun.
Film Club - So you missed the 80s and 90s! Do not fear, for I
will take you through the film culture of the 80s, before
entering a journey some 90s classics and finally finishing off
with some modern films from your era. So get your shoulder
pads and ghetto blasters at the ready...
Drama (Nottingham Playhouse) - Would you like the
opportunity to work with Professional Actors exploring
themes through workshops and other activities and finally
performing a piece you have helped to create on stage at the
Playhouse in Nottingham? Then this is the activity for you!
Technology Carving Club - A fantastic opportunity to develop
hand-eye coordination and skills, meaning you will never be
bored again. This course will enable you to whittle sticks and
pieces of wood to produce fantastic mini works of art that
will impress friends and relatives everywhere you go. With
practice, you will be able to whittle wood to almost any
shape.

Boy’s Football
Interested in playing football? Come along to boy’s football
club. We will look at skills involved in the sport as well as
tactical play. A great opportunity to learn new skills and
meet new people. Will we see the next Dele Alli?
Debating Club – Do you like a good debate? Would you like
to become better at making your point and improving your
self-confidence? If so, this could be just the club for you.
Come along, learn new skills, debate on topical issues, and
perhaps be entered for local and national competitions.
Board Game Club
Come to board games club where you can enjoy a range of
games including Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Cluedo,
Jenga and many more! Play against your peers and have fun.
Card Making Club
Are you a creative person? Would you like to become more
creative? Come along and learn how to make some fantastic
greetings cards for all occasions that will wow your family and
friends. Opportunities to make other crafts too.
Wreck this Journal Club - Based around the books
created by Keri Smith, you will be encouraged to colour
outside the lines, scribble with reckless abandon, stamp
on pages and experiment with a range of art materials
amongst many more seriously weird tasks! Purchase of
'Wreck this Journal' by Keri Smith recommended but
not essential.

Girls Football - Learn (or develop) the skills required for the
sport of football. A friendly club where you can learn and
develop skills such as how to pass, shoot and defend
effectively. You will be able to play football games and work
as a team to improve your game.
History Documentary Makers - Love History? Want to delve
deeper into some of history's most controversial topics and
showcase your expertise? Then come along to the History
Documentary Makers club. We will investigate the past and
document it in the present to inform the future!
Netball - Would you like to become the next Netball England
Rose and win gold at the next Commonwealth Games? Come
develop your dodging, passing, defending and shooting skills
at the schools netball club. Students will also be able to play
competitive matches against other school in the area. Come
along and try something new!
Bible Study Club - Do you question why there is so much bad
in the world and wonder if there really is a God? Do you want
to find out more? Come along and take a journey into the
bible. Ask questions in a safe environment where no question
is stupid! Discover your true worth.
French Club - Do you want to improve your French skills?
This friendly club will compliment your French lessons, you
will learn new vocabulary and it will allow you to develop
your French speaking and listening skills.

Paracord Projects Club - working through completing stepby-step
instructions for 20 different paracord projects. Learn
to make survival bracelets, watchbands, a dog collar etc. All
projects will have complete Instructions and contain pictures
for each step.
Geography Masters – Are you a keen geographer? Interested
in learning more about geography? Come along and find out
about human geography, trading and natural disasters.
Improve your geographical knowledge and understanding
and have fun at the same time! Geography rocks!
Harry Potter Reading Club - Read (or re-read) your favourite
series of books – that’s right, Harry Potter! In this club, you
will experience all things Harry Potter. You will read Harry
Potter (we might even delve into Fantastic Beasts); you will
be able to create your own bookmarks, wands, potions and
much more.
Beginners Running Club (Happy Feet)
A beginners running club which will allow you to make
friends, enjoy running whilst building your speed and
your ability to run distance. Come along and enjoy the
journey!

Karate - Would you like to improve your mental and physical
strength? All martial arts require a combination of speed,
flexibility & strength. Karate will help improve your
confidence and respect. Training helps students develop
practical self-defence skills in a controlled atmosphere, and is
an excellent way to relieve stress.

of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and
sportsmanship while making friends and having fun.

Rock Band - Do you want to play in a Rock band? You can use
your music skills and knowledge from your music lessons to
join a band and prepare for a performance! You can choose
from guitar, bass, drums, singing and many other options!
Bring along your instrument or use one of ours and get ready
to rock!
Handmade Christmas Decorations
Do you love Christmas? Are you creative? Start the Christmas
season early! Make handmade Christmas decorations, cards
and presents, as well as improve your craft skills.

History Documentary Makers - Love History? Want to delve
deeper into some of history's most controversial topics and
showcase your expertise? Then come along to the History
Documentary Makers club. We will investigate the past and
document it in the present to inform the future!
Eco-School Club - Be an eco - warrior and become part of a
team to build projects for the school from single use plastics.
Members will learn about recycling schemes and how to turn
unwanted waste into usable and practical structures. Come
along and help us save the planet whilst having fun and
making friends.
Boys Football
Interested in playing football? Come along to boy’s football
club. We will look at skills involved in the sport as well as
tactical play. A great opportunity to learn new skills and
meet new people. Will we see the next Dele Alli?
Modern Foreign Languages Film Club
Love watching films? Come and get lost in a good story line
and exciting special effects. A variety of genres and
languages will be shown, something for everyone!

Trampolining - Would you like to be able to do a somersault
or a front drop on the trampoline? Come develop your

will also be able to compete against other school in the area.

Craft Club
Make cards, make paperweights, paint glass, and be creative
at craft club. Come, relax, and enjoy the opportunity to be
creative and make things you will treasure forever.
Scrabble Club
Working as a group, we will work through the board looking
at the best moves to play and when. Looking at different
length words and strategies along with playing team games
along with individual ones.
Bunting Club - Do you enjoy using mixed media? Do you
enjoy using collage and stitch in your artwork? In Bunting
club, you will use a combination of stitch and collage to
produce your own item of bunting to take home. Do you have
a birthday in your family coming up? Maybe you could tailor
your design to suit that person or occasion to add that
personal touch.
Non-Contact Boxing Fitness - To be a champion you have to
believe in yourself when no one else will. Come along and
de-stress, become fit and most importantly learn about
yourself! Sessions will focus on non-contact based boxing,
technique, padwork and footwork.

DJ Club
This club will involve exploring different DJ hardware and
software, how to beat match songs, use of EQs and filters
to manipulate songs and play to a crowd. Come and join!
Basketball Club - Fancy being the next LeBron James? If
you want to develop your basketball skills to be the next
top-level player or just want to enjoy the game, then
come along to this enjoyable basketball club where you
will learn and develop the skills need to play the game.
Spring 1 Activities: (6 th January-14 th February 2020)

Cross-Stitch - Cross-stitch is a form of sewing where X shaped
stitches are made and built up into a pattern. It is a nice
relaxing way to craft and can be used to create pictures,
greetings cards or even bookmarks. Cross-stitch is the oldest
form of embroidery and can be found all over the world,
dating back to the middle ages.

Learn how to play the beautiful game of Rugby. Rugby is a
contact sport that will help build and instil values of
teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship
while making friends and having fun.
Chess - Chess is known as a noble game – “a game of kings“,
and it is no coincidence, as it takes/develops similar skills.
How come? Consider the following: in the initial position the
player heading the white pieces has 20 possible ways to play,
to which his/her opponent can react in as many ways. Come
and find out more…

Origami - Would you like to learn how to make paper
flowers, boxes, airplanes, ninja stars…? If so, then origami
club might be the club for you. Origami is the art of paper
folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture.
There is lots to do for the novice or more advanced so come
along and let the folding fun begin!

Zumba - An aerobic fitness class to music, which combines
fast and slow sequences of movement that achieve cardio
and muscle-toning benefits. Therefore, if you want to get fit,
improve your dancing skills and have a whole heap of fun
in the process, this may be just the club for you!

club. We will look at skills involved in the sport as well as

Table Tennis - Fancy letting off some steam after a busy day
in the classroom? Do you want to improve your fitness whilst
enjoying sport? If the answer to both questions is yes, then
please come along to this club, which will give you the
opportunity to meet new people, develop your table tennis
skills and boost your physical fitness.

Do you want to develop your Film Analysis Skills? Ever
wonder why a director has created a movie in a certain way?
In this club, you will watch a range of movies and learn to
analyse and more fully understand them.

computer type) then come to board games and Jigsaws. Play
board games against your peers or complete a range of
jigsaws.

some amazing works of art, create your own Rangoli patterns

Science Club - Do you like Science? Do want to do practical’s
that are fun and engaging and most importantly, we don’t do
in normal lessons. You will be carrying out each of the
practicals. You can request practicals that you have seen on
TV and would like to try.
Tennis
Whether you are an experienced tennis player who knows
how to hit a drop shot or has a double handed back hand,
someone who has never picked up a racket and would love to
learn how to play a hard-hitting game - this is the opportunity
for you.

Rugby
Learn how to play the beautiful Game of Rugby. Rugby is a
contact sport that will help build and in still values of
Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and
Sportsmanship while making friends and having fun.
Badminton Club - Aimed at eager players looking to improve
their technique and tactics, in a fun but competitive
environment. Sessions include doubles matches and
development workshops on service, position, doubles tactics
etc.
Gardening Club - Do you like growing plants? Love eating
food? Or just fancy growing your own food? Well come along
to the gardening club where we will be creating your very
own mini salad garden to take home with you. From lettuce
to courgettes to edible flowers, you will have your own little
piece of edible heaven to take home.

Actors exploring themes through workshops and other
activities and finally performing a piece you have helped to
create on stage at the Playhouse in Nottingham? Then this is

Juggling Club –
Fancy learning a new skill? You will learn to make your own
juggling balls from old socks! You will learn the skills to juggle
with up to 3 balls and maybe more if you feel ambitious!

Homework Club
Homework club offers the opportunity to students to engage
with homework for Science or for any other subject that you
need some help and support with at the end of the school
day. Come along and be productive.
Maths Club –
Ever realised just how many links there are between art and
mathematics? Come along and explore the maths behind

and society’s expectations on young females today.

it like Laura Marsh? Were you inspired by the Cricket World
Cup held in England in May/June this year? If yes to any,
please come along to cricket practice after school to learn
and develop your core cricket skills (batting, bowling and
fielding) through engaging and innovative practices and
game-based activities.

Summer 1 Activities: (20 th April – 22 nd May 2020)
Reading & Writing Club - Do you have a passion for all things English?
Do you have a thirst for creativity? A hunger for Literature? If so, then
Reading and Writing (RAW) Club is the place for you! In this club, we
will delve into literature from the past and present, exploring the
heroes of the past and the villains of the modern day. We will create
our own stories, pen our own poetry and become investigate
journalists.
Board games and Jigsaw Club - Do you fancy playing
traditional board games? Test your skill with a variety of
board games and jigsaws. Bring out your competitive side!
Come to board games and jigsaw club.

cover important greetings; ordering food; arranging

Pokémon Go - Gotta catch em all, Pokemon! Come and join
us for some Pokemon Go adventures, we will be going on
some local walks to stretch those legs and get some exercise,
whilst becoming the best Pokemon trainer on the go! Meet
new friends, have a laugh, and most importantly, catch them
all!
Athletics - Would you like to run as fast as Usain Bolt or
compete in the Heptathlon like Katarina Johnson-Thompson?
Come along to athletics club and try out all of the track and
field events included within athletics. You never know you
might end up representing Great Britain in the Olympic
Games.
Running Club - Looking to your improve fitness, achieve a
new personal best or simply want take part in active club? In
this club, there will be the chance to build up middle distance
running via interval training to either achieve a 2km or 5km
time or improve on a previous achievement using a 6-week
training programme.
Rounders
Come develop your catching, throwing, batting and fielding
skills at the schools rounders club. Students will also be able
to play competitive matches against other school in the area.

Cake decorating/Cooking for Life - We plan to look at range
of cake decorating techniques and produce different types of
cupcake, dessert style cakes and teach them to present them
to a high standard.

Summer 2 Activities (1 st June - 24 th July 2020)
Reading Café/Library
Would you like a quiet place to read and enjoy literature? Come and
join us as we enter our own fantasy worlds through the power of
reading. Bring your own book or choose from our library and curl
up with a lovely cuppa while you relax in peace.

Come develop your catching, throwing, batting and fielding
skills at the schools rounders club. Students will also be able
to play competitive matches against other school in the area.
Come along and try something new!

Harry Potter Club - Read (or re-read) your favourite series of
books – that’s right, Harry Potter! In this club, you will
experience all things Harry Potter. You will read Harry Potter
(we might even delve into Fantastic Beasts); you will be able
to create your own bookmarks, wands, potions and much
more.
Drama (Nottingham Playhouse) - Would you like the
opportunity to work with Professional Actors exploring
themes through workshops and other activities and finally
performing a piece you have helped to create on stage at the
Playhouse in Nottingham? Then this is the activity for you!
Gardening Club - Do you like growing plants? Love eating
food? Or fancy growing your own food? Come along to
gardening club where we will be creating your very own mini
salad garden to take home with you. From lettuce to
courgettes to edible flowers, you will have your own little
piece of edible heaven to take home.
Cribbage - Do you like maths? Do you like card games?
Would you like to find out how to apply mathematical logic to
a card game? Then cribbage is the answer! A good
mathematical brain is essential :)
Short Mat/Lawn Bowls - How about trying a sport for all ages
and abilities. Lawn Bowls can test your accuracy and bowling
skills. IT IS FUN & FAMILY FRIENDLY - Bowls is great fun and is
something the whole family can enjoy together. EASY TO
LEARN - It literally takes minutes to learn the fundamentals of
bowling but beware it can take a lifetime to master!

Carnegie Reading Award Shadowing - Do you have a passion
for reading? Come along to the Carnegie Shadowing group
where each week we will read a different novel from the 8
shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie medal. We will have club
discussions of our views of the texts, write online reviews and
see which one is ultimately crowned the winner!
History Documentary Makers - Love History? Want to delve
deeper into some of history's most controversial topics and
showcase your expertise? Then come along to the History
Documentary Makers club. We will investigate the past and
document it in the present to inform the future!
Paper Craft & Scrapbooking
Preserve your favourite memories and photos by creating a
mini-book or scrapbook using a variety of paper craft
techniques. Enjoy crafting with friends or make new friends
while crafting.
Comic Club - Want to make a short comic story and get it
printed in a real comic book? In this club you will get the
chance to work with the materials of your choice to create a
comic story on the theme 'Revolution' and then have it
printed in a Brunts Comic book. The project will end with a
book launch where you can talk about what inspired you and
how you created your work.
Film Club
Watch films like you never have before! Discover how to
analyse films by studying the narrative, the genre, the
characters, the editing, the lighting, the camera work and the
sound. Come along if you love films and are interested in how
they are created.

Countdown Club - Come along and play countdown, whether
numbers is your thing or you are better with the letter
rounds, this is a great way to practise your skills in Maths and
Literacy. The club is a fun and competitive way where you
battle each other in spelling, anagrams and mental
arithmetic. Bring along a mascot and play against the clock…
Forensic Science Club - This is a club for students who are
interested in how chemistry is used in forensic science. We
will be looking at: dusting for fingerprints, fingerprints on
difficult surfaces, shoeprints, making casts, comparing soil
samples, forgery and bloodstains.
Book Club - Enjoy reading? Then come along to 'Book Club'
and share this passion with others. Choose to re-read and
share some of your favourite books with others, try
something new and different off the shelf or simply bring a
book from home to read instead.
