We live in a fast-moving world, every day there are<br />

Being No. 1 in tennis, and at the same time so well-loved and<br />

admired both on and off the court is difficult, but Rafael Nadal has<br />

achieved it with flying colours. An athlete who has based his career<br />

on respect, humility, effort, determination, and that sense of fun<br />

which enables him to continue writing his legend, day by day.<br />

When the tennis player Rafael Nadal won his 12th Roland<br />

Garros last June, the journalists had a hard time<br />

finding a new term to describe his brilliant career. How<br />

could the success of the best Spanish tennis player of all<br />

time be summarised, once<br />

again? What adjective could<br />

be used for the athlete who<br />

has already exhausted the<br />

best qualifiers in the dictionary,<br />

when he is intent on<br />

continuing to write the history<br />

of international tennis?<br />

The son of Ana María Parera<br />

and Sebastián Nadal, Rafael<br />

was born in Manacor, Mallorca,<br />

on June 3rd, 1986, into a<br />

sport-loving family. His uncle, Miguel Ángel Nadal, was a<br />

football player and played for FC Barcelona and RCD Mallorca,<br />

and his uncle, Toni Nadal, had been a tennis player.<br />

A CHILDHOOD PASSION<br />

From a very early age he was passionate about sports.<br />

With the encouragement of Toni Nadal, he began to<br />

practise his first strokes with the racket when he was<br />

only three years old. As he also liked football, he did<br />

both sports. However, when he reached adolescence, he<br />

had to make a choice, faced with a foreseeable lack of<br />

time to combine two sports with his studies. He chose<br />

tennis, where he had already been winning tournaments<br />

for more than four years.<br />

In 2004, at the age of just 18, Rafa was a member of the<br />

Spanish National Team that won the Davis Cup. A year<br />

later, in one of his first competitions as an adult, he catapulted<br />

to the top of the professional scene by winning<br />

the Roland Garros, the first of his twelve victories at the<br />

French Open. If there was any doubt about the heights he<br />

would reach, he won the tournament again the following<br />

year, and a year later he repeated the feat, going on to win<br />

two Grand Slams, the Olympic gold medal, and become<br />

world number 1 in 2008. A legend was born.<br />

A RESILIENT SPIRIT<br />

Rafa’s successes have been repeated throughout his career,<br />

not only on clay courts, but on all surfaces. 2014,<br />

despite him winning his ninth French Open, was a complicated<br />

year due to injuries, which continued into 2015.<br />

However, Rafa’s determination and enormous capacity<br />

for hard work earned him his tenth Roland Garros in<br />

2017, the year in which he also won his third US Open<br />

title and became number 1 again.<br />

His injuries also complicated the end of last year, but<br />

the tennis player showed the world that he was capable<br />

of winning the French Open once again. When asked<br />

about his ability to overcome injuries and setbacks, he<br />

replies: “I’ve learned throughout my career to enjoy<br />

pain. Without pain there’s no happiness. Coping means<br />

accepting things as they are, and not as you’d like them<br />

to be. And looking forward, not backwards.”<br />

Among Rafa’s virtues which have made him great as an<br />

athlete and as a person, are respect and humility. This is<br />

probably what has made him so internationally well-loved.<br />

“Humility is recognising your limitations. I always work<br />

with an objective, which is to improve as a player and as<br />

a person. Attitude is fundamental in life. If you never lose,<br />

you won’t enjoy the victories. You have to accept both. Losing<br />

isn’t my enemy. My enemy is the fear of losing.”<br />

HUMAN VALUES<br />

Apart from his sporting successes, Rafael Nadal is well-known<br />

for his human values. In 2008, he created the<br />

Rafa Nadal Foundation with his mother, where sport<br />

and education have become the best allies to carry out<br />

social projects with children and young people in Spain<br />

and India. “We’re working so that they have access to<br />

equal opportunities in order to make the most of their<br />

abilities and potential, regardless of their personal and<br />

social conditions,” he says.<br />

The transformative power of sport and communication<br />

is what allows children and adolescents to go as far as<br />

they can, regardless of their origins or their personal<br />

and social conditions, including those with learning difficulties<br />

or disabilities.<br />

Rafa is the founding trustee of the organisation, and is<br />

fully involved in the projects and charitable events this<br />

entails. Along with Rafa, the board is made up of his<br />

closest family members, as well as a multidisciplinary<br />

team who share his values ​of solidarity. With their work<br />

supervised by the Protectorate of Foundations, which<br />

monitors the legality of every action carried out, the<br />

Foundation is committed to three main projects.<br />

“More than Tennis”, based on attitudes such as effort<br />

and perseverance, is focused on care for young people<br />

with intellectual disabilities. Over 200 young people are<br />

participating in this programme, in 19 schools in different<br />

locations in Spain.<br />

In parallel, the Foundation also supports the social integration<br />

of vulnerable children in Palma de Mallorca,<br />

who are offered a supplementary programme with activities<br />

related to the socio-educational area and sports,<br />

as well as psychotherapy. Around 250 children and<br />

young people benefit from this programme every year.<br />

Lastly, the Rafael Nadal Foundation helps young people<br />

who combine their training with studies to access scholarships<br />

granted by American universities, as well as<br />

providing additional financial aid to students who may<br />

require it, due to their economic and family situation.<br />

Since the beginning of the programme, more than 50<br />

young people have benefitted from these scholarships.<br />

Rafael Nadal is one of the greats in tennis history, and<br />

the Spanish tennis player with the largest number of individual<br />

titles. His sporting successes are only comparable<br />

to the honour of being so well-loved and respected<br />

off the court.<br />

que ha basado su carrera en el respeto, la humildad, el esfuerzo, su tesón y ese punto<br />

de diversión que le permite seguir escribiendo, día a día, su leyenda.<br />

Cuando el tenista Rafael Nadal ganó su decimosegundo<br />

Roland Garros el pasado mes de<br />

junio, los periodistas tuvieron difícil encontrar<br />

un nuevo calificativo para su brillante trayectoria<br />

profesional. ¿Cómo resumir, una vez más,<br />

el éxito del mejor tenista español de todos los<br />

tiempos? ¿Qué adjetivo emplear para el deportista<br />

que ya ha agotado los mejores calificativos<br />

del diccionario cuando se empeña en<br />

seguir escribiendo la historia del tenis internacional?<br />

Hijo de Ana María Parera y Sebastián<br />

Nadal, Rafael nació en Manacor, en Mallorca,<br />

el 3 de junio de 1986, en el seno<br />

de una familia amante del deporte. Su tío<br />

Miguel Ángel Nadal fue jugador de fútbol<br />

y militó en el FC Barcelona y en el RCD<br />

Mallorca, y su tío Toni Nadal había sido<br />

jugador de tenis.<br />

PASIÓN DE JUVENTUD<br />

Desde muy joven fue un apasionado del<br />

deporte. De la mano de Toni Nadal comenzó<br />

a practicar sus primeros golpes<br />

de raqueta cuando solo tenía tres años.<br />

Como también le gustaba el fútbol, combinaba<br />

la práctica de ambos deportes.<br />

Sin embargo, con la llegada de la adolescencia,<br />

tuvo que decantarse por uno de<br />

ellos ante una previsible falta de tiempo<br />

para compaginar ambos con los estudios.<br />

Escogió el tenis, donde ya llevaba más de<br />

cuatro años ganando torneos.<br />

En 2004, con tan solo 18 años, Rafa fue<br />

miembro de la Selección Española que<br />

ganó la Copa Davis. Un año más tarde, estrenando<br />

la mayoría de edad, se catapultó<br />

en lo más alto de la escena profesional al<br />

ganar el Roland Garros, la primera de sus<br />

doce victorias en el Abierto de Francia.<br />

Por si había alguna duda de lo alto que llegaría,<br />

al año siguiente volvió a ganar el torneo y<br />

un año después repitió la hazaña, para pasar a<br />

llevarse en 2008 dos Grand Slam, la medalla<br />

de oro olímpica y ser número 1 mundial. Había<br />

nacido una leyenda.<br />

ESPÍRITU DE SUPERACIÓN<br />

Los éxitos de Rafa se han repetido a lo largo de<br />

su carrera no solo en tierra batida, sino en todas<br />

las superficies. El año 2014, a pesar de ganar<br />

su noveno Abierto de Francia, fue un año<br />

complicado por las lesiones, que prosiguieron<br />

durante 2015. Sin embargo, el tesón y la enorme<br />

capacidad de esfuerzo de Rafa le hicieron<br />

ganar su décimo Roland Garros en 2017, año<br />

en el que también obtuvo su tercer abierto de<br />

EE.UU y regreso al número uno.<br />

Las lesiones también complicaron el final del<br />

año pasado, pero el tenista demostró al mundo<br />

que era capaz de ganar, una vez más, el Abierto<br />

de Francia. Cuando se le pregunta por su capacidad<br />

Entre las virtudes de Rafa, que le han hecho<br />

ser tan grande como deportista y persona, se<br />

encuentra el respeto y la humildad. Probablemente<br />

es lo que le hace tan querido internacionalmente.<br />

“La humildad es el reconocimiento<br />

de tus limitaciones. Siempre trabajo con un objetivo,<br />

que es mejorar como jugador y como persona.<br />

La actitud es fundamental en la vida. Si<br />

no pierdes, no puedes disfrutar de las victorias.<br />

Tienes que aceptar ambas cosas. Perder no es<br />

mi enemigo. Mi enemigo es el miedo a perder”.<br />

CALIDAD HUMANA<br />

Al margen de sus éxitos deportivos, Rafael<br />

Nadal es reconocido por su calidad humana.<br />

En 2008 creó junto a su madre la Fundación<br />

Rafa Nadal, donde deporte y educación se<br />

convierten en los mejores aliados para llevar<br />

a cabo proyectos sociales con niños y jóvenes<br />

en España y la India. “Trabajamos para que<br />

tengan igualdad de oportunidades a la hora de<br />

desarrollar sus máximas capacidades y potencial,<br />

independientemente de sus condiciones<br />

personales y sociales”, comenta.<br />

El poder transformador del deporte y la comunicación<br />

es lo que permite a niños y adolescentes<br />

llegar tan lejos como se propongan,<br />

independientemente de su origen y de sus<br />

condiciones personales y sociales, incluidos<br />

los que presentan algún problema de<br />

aprendizaje o discapacidad.<br />

Rafa es el patrono fundador de la organización<br />

y está plenamente implicado<br />

en los proyectos y los eventos benéficos<br />

que conlleva. Junto a él, el patronato está<br />

compuesto por su más estrecho vínculo<br />

familiar, así como un equipo multidisciplinar<br />

que comparte sus valores solidarios.<br />

Con una labor supervisada por el Protectorado<br />

de Fundaciones, que vela por<br />

la legalidad de las actuaciones llevadas a<br />

cabo, la Fundación está volcada en tres<br />

proyectos principales.<br />

“Más que tenis”, basado en actitudes<br />

como el esfuerzo y la perseverancia, está<br />

orientado a la atención de jóvenes con<br />

discapacidad intelectual. Más de 200<br />

jóvenes se encuentran inmersos en este<br />

programa, en 19 escuelas distribuidas<br />

por diferentes puntos de España.<br />

Paralelamente, la Fundación también<br />

apoya la integración social de menores<br />

vulnerables de Palma de Mallorca, a<br />

quienes se les ofrece un programa complementario<br />

con actividades enmarcadas<br />

en el ámbito socioeducativo, deportivo y<br />

psicoterapéutico. Alrededor de 250 niños<br />

y jóvenes son atendidos por este programa<br />

cada año.<br />

Por último, la Fundación de Rafael Nadal<br />

ayuda a jóvenes que compaginan sus entrenamientos<br />

con los estudios a acceder a las becas<br />

que conceden las universidades norteamericanas,<br />

además de prestar ayudas económicas<br />

adicionales a estudiantes que por su situación<br />

económica y familiar lo requieran. Desde los<br />

inicios del programa han sido más de 50 los<br />

jóvenes que se han beneficiado de las becas.<br />

Rafael Nadal es uno de los grandes de la historia<br />

del tenis y el tenista español con el mayor<br />

número de títulos individuales. Sus éxitos deportivos<br />

solo son comparables con la grandeza<br />

que supone ser tan querido y respetado fuera<br />

We’re at Puente Romano’s Owners Club to interview<br />

Kenza Eyzaguirre.<br />

Tell us about your origins... Where you’re<br />

from, where you grew up and where you did<br />

your university degree.<br />

I was born in Malaga, and I was in Marbella<br />

until I was 10, but as my mother’s American<br />

and my parents divorced when I was little, I’d<br />

travel a lot to the United States with her, and<br />

also to England.<br />

After a time in England, I came back to Marbella<br />

and studied here until the age of 10, when<br />

I moved to Tennessee, in the south of the United<br />

States, where I went to an American high<br />

school. At the age of 17, I went to Paris on my<br />

own and studied History of Art and Marketing<br />

(Fashion Marketing).<br />

Has being an only child influenced you?<br />

I’d say so, because it’s made me very independent,<br />

and I’m also a person who needs to enjoy<br />

some alone time. I believe that being an only<br />

child made me mature very quickly.<br />

As I mentioned before, I lived alone from the age<br />

of 17 to 25. I don’t have siblings, but as a child, I<br />

had a very close relationship with my grandparents.<br />

In my personal life, having them and their<br />

unconditional support has helped me a lot.<br />

As a child, what did you want to be? Did you<br />

have a vocation?<br />

Yes, I’ve always wanted to work with the environment.<br />

My true vocation is to help others.<br />

When I was a child, my reference was Greenpeace...<br />

And then, when I was 18 years old, I was lucky<br />

enough to do an internship in Geneva, at the<br />

United Nations, and that left a lasting mark on<br />

me. So yes, since I was a child, working on environmental<br />

projects has always been my passion.<br />

You give the impression of being a fragile,<br />

reserved, introverted woman... But now that<br />

I’m with you, I feel that you’re the opposite, I<br />

see you as a woman who’s strong, determined,<br />

approachable and very affectionate. Who is<br />

the real Kenza Eyzaguirre?<br />

That’s a difficult question (she laughs). But the<br />

truth is, I love being surrounded by people, my<br />

work’s always very social, although I do need<br />

some time to myself too, like everyone…<br />

I consider myself a very affectionate, transparent<br />

person, and I always find the good<br />

in everyone. I’m of the opinion that it’s very<br />

important to surround yourself with different<br />

people. I love cultural diversity because each<br />

person brings something new.<br />

You can learn from everyone and that’s very<br />

good. You have to have an open mind and be<br />

receptive in order to grow as a person.<br />

You lived in Paris, the city of love, for 17 years...<br />

Do you consider yourself a romantic woman?<br />

What would you highlight about Paris?<br />

I lived in Paris for 8 years. I went there when<br />

I was 17 years old, and I feel that I owe this<br />

magnificent city so much.<br />

I was lucky to work in fashion, and aesthetically<br />

speaking, it opened my eyes to the world<br />

of beauty. I consider myself very privileged to<br />

have had the opportunity to work for many of<br />

the established family brands in France. This<br />

opened my eyes to the world of fashion, refinement<br />

and of course, to the world of art and<br />

architecture that can be found in every street<br />

and every corner of Paris. I learned a lot about<br />

impressionist and classical art, as while I was<br />

studying in Paris, we would go to museums or<br />

churches every day. This was part of the learning<br />

process, and I consider it a luxury. It’s enriched<br />

me culturally and emotionally.<br />

But to get back to your first question, unfortunately,<br />

I don’t consider myself very romantic,<br />

although obviously I find the city of Paris especially<br />

romantic, its nights... walking the streets<br />

of Paris, especially at night, is lovely, the city is<br />

so beautiful! Invaluable!<br />

As for my romantic side, I consider myself a<br />

sensitive, nostalgic woman, I love music... I<br />

think that is my romantic side... And Paris has<br />

influenced me a lot in that sense!<br />

In present times, frivolity is commonplace...<br />

Many men and women are resorting to cosmetic<br />

surgery, compulsive shopping, also in decoration...<br />

This generation is more perfectionist<br />

and non-conformist. What do you think<br />

about this? Do you see any sense in it?<br />

I think it’s a pity that society is becoming obsessed<br />

in this sense, because, as you say, it’s a<br />

frivolous world, and in the end, it doesn’t bring<br />

you happiness. It’s a shame.<br />

What really makes you happy isn’t changing<br />

aesthetically or wearing fashion brands, what<br />

makes you happy - and this has been studied<br />

- is helping others. Fortunately, I also see that<br />

there’s now a “social movement” of some people<br />

and schools concerned about the world, the environment<br />

and sustainability... I think we should<br />

focus our attention more on this perspective,<br />

and strive to create a better world… It’s possible!<br />

However, I do know that you’re doing great<br />

humanitarian work. Tell us, how and where<br />

did the idea of helping people in underdeveloped<br />

countries, such as Kenya, come about?<br />

I was fortunate to be working with Daniel<br />

Shamoon, the owner of the Hotel. He’s a great<br />

Ambassador of WORLD VISION for England.<br />

And, for years, he’s helped out in many projects,<br />

especially in the areas of Africa and Kenya...<br />

I’ve been lucky enough to accompany him<br />

on his trips to visit the projects he collaborates<br />

with, and at the same time, we raise funds with<br />

the events we hold here at the Hotel for the<br />

WORLD VISION GALA, which is held every<br />

August. A beautiful gala...<br />

We’ve 250 guests, a show, singers... For me, it’s<br />

the most beautiful and important event of the<br />

year. I help to organise these galas, and with<br />

the funds raised, we’re going to visit the projects<br />

we have in Kenya.<br />

My first trip changed my life. For my part, I want<br />

to keep helping, and I recently walked a marathon<br />

in Madrid to raise funds for the “We Are Water<br />

foundation”. There’s severe drought in Kenya, unfortunately,<br />

and the children miss school as they<br />

have to walk many kilometres every day just to<br />

get water. We do this walk as a symbol of what<br />

they do, in order to raise funds for them.<br />

I want to hold more fundraising events to really<br />

help these sectors of the population. This<br />

is needed in Marbella: more awareness to eradicate<br />

as much poverty as possible. And we<br />

must all take responsibility in this endeavour<br />

(from our places of work, personally, each family<br />

and political, educational and cultural institution...).<br />

Together we can help, and save the<br />

future of millions of children who don’t have<br />

the same opportunities as we do.<br />

There is an ever-increasing number of people<br />

who are gaining awareness and responsibility<br />

regarding food, and from this perspective, opt<br />

for veganism as a way to protect the planet.<br />

What led you to become vegan? Moral, health<br />

or aesthetic reasons?<br />

Well, I think me being vegan was inherited. My<br />

mother was already a vegan, and of course, I<br />

learned from her.<br />

She never pressured me, but I grew up with<br />

this education in food, and the result today<br />

is that her influence, and later, my studies on<br />

food and the environment, have ultimately<br />

made me choose this life and food philosophy.<br />

Now, moreover, I’m a somewhat ‘radical’ vegan,<br />

since my diet is based on raw food of<br />

vegetable origin, which is known by the name<br />

of ‘raw veganism’. In other words, I don’t eat<br />

meat, fish, eggs, dairy... Nothing processed,<br />

nor any food subjected to cooking...<br />

If we read and study in depth, “the issue of farms...<br />

is a scandal”, pesticides...<br />

I’ve adopted this life philosophy because, in addition<br />

to feeling healthy, it makes me feel good,<br />

and I believe that I’m contributing to helping the<br />

environment...<br />

There’s a documentary, “What the Health”,<br />

which I recommend you watch, as it has helped<br />

many people change their diet.<br />

Your passion for fashion has been rewarded<br />

with a long career in Paris with important international<br />

companies... Are you yearning to<br />

go back to work in the fashion sector some day?<br />

I worked for Boucheron in the Place Vendome,<br />

in luxury jewellery, I did an internship there.<br />

The oldest jewellery store in France.<br />

I also worked for Chanel and Corto Moltedo,<br />

who’s the son of the founder of Bottega Veneta,<br />

it’s a younger, trendier brand of Bottega<br />

Veneta. I was fortunate to work closely with<br />

him in marketing. My last job in Paris was at<br />

the American company, Mint Buying Office,<br />

(Saks Fifth Avenue NY). I worked at its Paris<br />

office, for the American department for all<br />

the buyers when they came to Paris during<br />

Fashion Week. We organized the shows, the<br />

collections... It was a very intense job, but<br />

very interesting for me.<br />

It’s fortunate that in my position in Marbella,<br />

I get to organise many fashion events. I used<br />

to do it at MC Café, in the Marbella Club, and<br />

now we hold fashion shows every year at the<br />

Sea Grill, which have been met with a positive<br />

response and are proving highly successful: Salvatore<br />

Ferragamo, Elisabetta Franchi, La Perla,<br />

Virginia Macari...<br />

We’re currently working on a project in Puente<br />

Romano, a luxury shopping centre with top fashion<br />

firms. We’re going to present it soon, and it<br />

will be very important for Marbella, as we’ll be<br />

bringing important international firms.<br />

Kenza, you’ve proven yourself to be a very<br />

versatile woman. Some may not be aware<br />

of your role in the art world. You worked for<br />

one of the most important art galleries in<br />

Paris, the Moretti & Moretti Gallery, which<br />

is particularly known for Street Art, and is<br />

now located in Marbella, in the Marbella<br />

Club Hotel and in NOBU HOTEL. What led<br />

you to work in the art world, and what have<br />

you learned from it?<br />

Hubertus Hohenlohe invited me to a photography<br />

exhibition at an art gallery, Moretti & Moretti,<br />

when I lived in Paris. I was lucky enough<br />

to meet and get to know the owners personally.<br />

Two years later, I came back to Marbella and<br />

Hubertus invited me to a party at his house,<br />

and I met the gallery owners again, who were<br />

two brothers, ‘the Moretti brothers’.<br />

At that time, they opened a gallery in the Marbella<br />

Club, the one we know today, and as they<br />

had to go to Paris for various reasons, they asked<br />

me to take charge of the gallery.<br />

And so I did, I confirmed my intention to take<br />

charge of the Gallery in their absence, and one<br />

weekend I went to Ibiza. Unfortunately, while I<br />

was there, one of the brothers died. It was so<br />

tragic! So I came back and was in charge of<br />

the Gallery along with Patrick for a year, and I<br />

was there for him during that time. Since then<br />

we’ve had a very close relationship.<br />

This year he’s opened a gallery in Puente Romano.<br />

Patrick has some magnificent works in<br />

Paris, a large collection with a lot of potential,<br />

and now we’re going to open a gallery in Ibiza,<br />

with Daniel’s help. He’s been a good client of<br />

Moretti for many years, and now we’re going<br />

to work on some great projects.<br />

You currently work in the exclusive Puente<br />

Romano Hotel. Tell us briefly about your career<br />

path since your beginnings in the Hotel.<br />

Although I grew up in Marbella, I didn’t know<br />

Daniel personally. My mother studied with his<br />

mother in London, and my family did know her<br />

family but, as I lived abroad, I didn’t.<br />

As I told you earlier, I worked at the Moretti &<br />

Moretti Gallery for a year, and started organising<br />

events to promote the different artists’ exhibitions...<br />

I became known to the hotel group<br />

for the events I organised, and they asked me<br />

to help them as public relations of the Hotel...<br />

I’ve gradually taken on more responsibilities,<br />

and my position has continued developing to<br />

this day.<br />

It was three years ago that Daniel asked me to<br />

get involved in a new project. The new project<br />

was the creation of what we know today as the<br />

OWNERS CLUB. For this purpose, and along<br />

with him, I started to make a list of the most<br />

influential people in Marbella (the established<br />

Marbella-born families, as my family had lived<br />

here for many, many years and we had a lot of<br />

acquaintances), and that’s how this interesting<br />

club, OWNERS CLUB, started.<br />

You tend to travel a lot for work... Do you have<br />

an anti-stress routine?<br />

I love to travel, so I honestly enjoy all my trips...<br />

I don’t have any stress, or very little! I’m a very<br />

calm person, so stress doesn’t affect me much.<br />

But I do walk 10 or 15 km, and this, you could<br />

say, is an anti-stress routine that I do every<br />

day. I need that me-time…<br />

To finish up, tell me very briefly:<br />

Your favourite film?<br />

I have a lot! I love Memoirs of a Geisha, Breakfast<br />

at Tiffany’s, To Catch a Thief, The Lover...<br />

All the classics, in general.<br />

A fear?<br />

I’m not afraid of anything, I’m very spiritual.<br />

A book you’d recommend?<br />

At the moment I don’t have much time for reading.<br />

Hemingway, when I was little, I loved reading<br />

about all his travels, a true American adventurer;<br />

Rhonda Byrne, the author of Self Help<br />

books, such as The Secret; the Russian writer,<br />

Pushkin, and François Sagan, a French writer.<br />

A woman you consider charismatic, or is an<br />

icon for you, and why?<br />

I’ve always admired Jackie Kennedy’s sister<br />

(Lee Radziwill). She was avant-garde for her<br />

time, and worked as public relations and ambassador<br />

for many fashion brands. An adventurous,<br />

interesting, intellectual woman. Another<br />

woman I admire is Amal Clooney, for her humanitarian<br />

work and her intelligence; Angelina<br />

Jolie for her projects in Cambodia and Africa.<br />

And another is Jane Goodall, for her help in conserving<br />

animal welfare, especially chimpanzees.<br />

Her studies turned around and revolutionised<br />

the knowledge that existed on human beings<br />

and their behaviour, making comparisons with<br />

the studies carried out on chimpanzees.<br />

A man you admire?<br />

My two grandfathers, of course, who always<br />

took such good care of their family, and my father,<br />

for his great loyalty to the family; Daniel<br />

Shamoon, because he is a great entrepreneur, a<br />

visionary, always having interesting, innovative<br />

ideas... The good thing about him is that he’s<br />

very humble, despite his position, he has a big<br />

heart for all those who work for him, and for<br />

everything he’s doing in all his humanitarian<br />

projects; John Thomson because he is a great<br />

professional, and also Donald Trump, because<br />

despite the controversies that have always<br />

surrounded him, I admire his management,<br />

both politically and as president of the USA<br />

(improvement in the economy and decrease in<br />

unemployment), as well as on a family level,<br />

as he gave his children a very strict education,<br />

and nowadays all of them work with him.<br />

Your favourite perfume?<br />

Black Opium, and my friend Moretti also<br />

brings me GIGI by Givenchy from Paris, and<br />

I love it!<br />

The Roca brothers’ passion for cooking originated<br />

in Can Roca, the bar-restaurant that their<br />

parents, Josep and Montserrat, opened on the<br />

outskirts of Girona. Josep Roca Sr., who the<br />

brothers affectionately nicknamed “the boss”,<br />

was a bus driver on the line between Sant Esteve<br />

de Llémena and Girona. One day, while<br />

out on his usual route, he saw premises with a<br />

for-sale sign, and did not think twice about it,<br />

convinced that opening a restaurant opposite<br />

a factory and next to a bus stop was a safe bet<br />

when it came to getting clients.<br />

In Can Roca, which still operates as a restaurant,<br />

the three brothers grew up learning to<br />

love cooking, with the inspiration of the dishes<br />

that Montserrat and Granny Angeleta<br />

prepared. The best place to learn that gastronomy<br />

must be, above all, respectful, generous<br />

and honest.<br />

Years later, El Celler de Can Roca, the restaurant<br />

the brothers decided to open, would be<br />

awarded three Michelin stars, and was voted<br />

The World’s Best Restaurant by The World’s<br />

50 Best Restaurants on two occasions, in<br />

2013 and 2015. This year, the same list has<br />

named them ‘Best of The Best Restaurant’,<br />

ad eternum.<br />

TRADITION AND MODERNITY<br />

The Roca brothers studied at the Escola<br />

d’Hosteleria de Girona, where they learned<br />

about the academic cuisine which, combined<br />

with a traditional base, has resulted in an<br />

internationally acclaimed restaurant, committed<br />

to creative cuisine without losing sight<br />

of its roots. “What matters is that the client<br />

leaves happy and wants to come back, regardless<br />

of whether the restaurant is number<br />

one, or number two, three or fifty,” says Joan.<br />

In El Celler de Can Roca the allocation of<br />

roles among the three brothers is one of the<br />

secrets of their success. Three brilliant minds<br />

that come together to bring out the best in<br />

themselves and each other. Joan, the eldest<br />

brother, is the master chef. His dishes arbitrate<br />

between science and tradition, technology<br />

and sensitivity, and the result is an emotional<br />

journey for the diner.<br />

His contributions to sous-vide and low-temperature<br />

cooking have transformed the way<br />

of looking at 21st century gastronomy. Furthermore,<br />

his generous vocation for teaching<br />

has led him to reveal the secrets of his cuisine<br />

for over 20 years, and to collaborate in<br />

different university programmes, such as the<br />

Harvard course ‘Science & Cooking’.<br />

Joan was awarded an honorary doctorate by<br />

the University of Girona. Additionally, this<br />

year he has been named Honorary Academic<br />

Member of the Royal European Academy of<br />

Doctors, and together with his brothers, he is<br />

an ambassador for the United Nations Sustainable<br />

Development programmes.<br />

WINES AND DESSERTS<br />

Josep Roca’s first contact with wine was in<br />

the cellar of his parents’ bar-restaurant, where<br />

he did not hesitate to chat with customers,<br />

even as a child. While playing, he laid the<br />

foundations of his two great talents: wine and<br />

dining service.<br />

An expert in the art of food and wine pairing,<br />

and maître of El Celler de Can Roca, he received<br />

the National Gastronomy Award for Best Maître<br />

in 2004, the National Gastronomy Award<br />

and the International Academy of Gastronomy<br />

Award for Best Sommelier on several occasions,<br />

and the Gueridón Gold Award for Best<br />

Maître in 2013.<br />

Josep likes to call himself a “wine waiter” and,<br />

wines. Nowadays he combines his work in El<br />

Celler de Can Roca with teaching, as well as<br />

writing a wine column for La Vanguardia and<br />

travelling the world giving lectures.<br />

For his part, Jordi Roca defines himself as “el<br />

postrero”, which in Spanish means ‘the last to<br />

arrive’, and it is also a play on the word postre,<br />

which means ‘dessert’. Of the Roca brothers, he<br />

is the last-born, and he makes the last dish served<br />

to the diner. His training in the world of desserts<br />

was under the talented Welsh pastry chef,<br />

Damian Allsop, who provided him with all the<br />

necessary tools to understand the secrets of a<br />

culinary niche that allows you to “create and fly.”<br />

Over the last few years Jordi has not stopped<br />

Joan, Josep y Jordi. Son los hermanos Roca,<br />

tres vértices de un triángulo equilátero cuya<br />

sinergia da forma a una cocina diferente a<br />

todas. Un juego a tres bandas que tiene su<br />

base en el esfuerzo, el tesón, la curiosidad y<br />

la emoción. El resultado es El Celler de Can<br />

Roca, donde la gastronomía se entiende de<br />

una forma diferente y única. Cocina, vino y<br />

La pasión por la cocina de los hermanos Roca<br />

tiene su origen en Can Roca, la casa de comidas<br />

que sus padres Josep y Montserrat abrieron<br />

a las afueras de Girona. Josep Roca padre,<br />

al que los hermanos apodan cariñosamente “el<br />

jefe”, era conductor de autobús de línea entre<br />

Sant Esteve de Llémena y Girona. Realizando<br />

su ruta habitual, un día vio el cartel de un local<br />

en venta y no se lo pensó, convencido de que<br />

abrir un restaurante enfrente de una fábrica<br />

y frente a una parada del autobús era una<br />

apuesta segura a la hora de conseguir clientes.<br />

En Can Roca, que todavía continúa en activo,<br />

crecieron y aprendieron a amar la cocina los<br />

tres hermanos, al calor de los platos que preparaba<br />

Montserrat y la iaia Angeleta. El mejor<br />

lugar para aprender que la gastronomía debe<br />

ser, ante todo, respetuosa, generosa y honesta.<br />

Años más tarde, el Celler de Can Roca, el restaurante<br />

que se lanzaron a abrir los hermanos,<br />

sería reconocido con tres estrellas Michelin<br />

y considerado el mejor restaurante del<br />

mundo por The World’s 50 Best Restaurants<br />

en dos ocasiones, en 2013 y 2015. La misma<br />

lista les ha proclamado este año, ad eternum,<br />

Best of The Best Restaurant.<br />

TRADICIÓN Y MODERNIDAD<br />

Los hermanos Roca estudiaron en la Escola<br />

d’Hosteleria de Girona, donde aprendieron<br />

esa cocina académica que, combinada con<br />

una base tradicional, ha dado como resultado<br />

un restaurante reconocido internacionalmente,<br />

comprometido con la cocina creativa sin<br />

renunciar a sus orígenes. “Lo que importa es<br />

que el cliente salga contento y tenga ganas<br />

de volver, independientemente de si el restaurante<br />

es el número uno o el número dos, el<br />

tres o el cincuenta”, señala Joan.<br />

En El Celler de Can Roca el reparto de los papeles<br />

entre los tres hermanos es uno de los secretos<br />

de su éxito. Tres mentes brillantes que<br />

se unen para dar lo mejor de sí mismos. Joan,<br />

el hermano mayor, es el maestro de la cocina.<br />

Sus platos dialogan con la ciencia y la tradición,<br />

la tecnología y la sensibilidad, y el resultado<br />

es un viaje emocional para el comensal.<br />

Sus aportaciones en la cocción controlada al<br />

vacío y a baja temperatura han transformado<br />

la manera de ver la gastronomía del siglo<br />

XXI. Además, su generosa vocación formadora<br />

le ha llevado a enseñar los secretos de su<br />

cocina durante más de 20 años y a colaborar<br />

en distintos programas universitarios como<br />

el curso Science & Cooking de Harvard.<br />

Joan ha sido reconocido como Doctor Honoris<br />

Causa por la Universidad de Girona. Además,<br />

este año ha sido nombrado Académico<br />

de Honor de la Real Academia Europea de<br />

Doctores y, junto a sus hermanos, es embajador<br />

de los Programas de Desarrollo Sostenible<br />

de Naciones Unidas.<br />

VINOS Y POSTRES<br />

Josep Roca tuvo su primer contacto con el<br />

vino en la bodega del sótano de la fonda de<br />

sus padres, donde no dudaba en charlar con<br />

los clientes siendo todavía un niño. Entre juegos,<br />

sentó las bases de sus dos grandes talentos:<br />

el vino y la sala.<br />

Experto en el arte del maridaje y maestro<br />

de ceremonias en la sala de El Celler de Can<br />

Roca, ha sido Premio Nacional de Gastronomía<br />

al Mejor Maître de Sala en 2004, Premio<br />

Nacional de Gastronomía y Premio de la Academia<br />

Internacional de Gastronomía al Mejor<br />

Sumiller en varias ocasiones, y Premio Gueridón<br />

de Oro al mejor Maître de Sala en 2013.<br />

A Josep le gusta llamarse a sí mismo<br />

“camarero de vinos” y, según la crítica,<br />

ha alcanzado una idoneidad asociativa<br />

entre los platos y los caldos casi<br />

infinita. Hoy combina su trabajo en El<br />

Celler de Can Roca con la formación,<br />

escribe sobre vinos en La Vanguardia<br />

y recorre el mundo dando conferencias.<br />

Por su parte, Jordi Roca es “el postrero”,<br />

como él mismo se define. De los<br />

hermanos Roca es el que nació en la<br />

última posición y quien llega también<br />

en último lugar al comensal. Su formación<br />

en el mundo de lo dulce fue de la mano<br />

del talentoso pastelero galés Damian Allsop,<br />

quien le proporcionó todas las herramientas<br />

necesarias para entender los secretos de una<br />

parcela gastronómica que permite “crear y<br />

volar”.<br />

En los últimos años Jordi no ha dejado de divertirse,<br />

soñar, provocar y jugar, en medio de<br />

una necesidad absoluta de plasmar su vida en<br />

dulce, donde la creatividad llega a través de<br />

un paseo, un paisaje, un olor o una emoción.<br />

Dentro de su libertad y frescura le gusta jugar<br />

al final de la comida, donde se rompen los<br />

Jordi Roca ha sido nombrado este año Académico<br />

de Honor de la Real Academia Europea de<br />

y junto a sus hermanos ha recibido la Medalla<br />

de Oro al Mérito en Bellas artes en 2015.<br />

Regarding the reform of<br />

Inheritance Tax<br />

in Andalusia<br />

Following the coming into force of Decree-Law 1/2019 on<br />

11 April 2019, inheritance tax has ceased to be a headache<br />

for families in Andalusia.<br />

For Inheritances, there will be a 99% reduction on the<br />

amount of tax payable for properties acquired due to the<br />

death of a spouse or direct relative and the regional reductions<br />

that were already in force will be maintained, i.e. the<br />

1,000,000 euro reduction on the tax base so that properties<br />

acquired through an inheritance up to that maximum<br />

amount are not adversely affected, because otherwise these<br />

would end up having to pay 1% instead of paying no tax,<br />

as explained in the preamble to the regulation. Additionally,<br />

for Donations, there will also be a reduction of 99%<br />

of the tax charge for acquisitions from spouses and direct<br />

relatives meaning that in practice, this tax is practically<br />

eliminated for these groups of taxpayer.<br />

The regulation has been well-received in the cosmopolitan<br />

province of Malaga, especially along its coast, where citizens<br />

from all over the world live, reside and periodically<br />

visit and own property and assets. We can now tell them<br />

that they too have reason to receive this regulation gladly<br />

and celebrate the gradual evolution of the perception of<br />

inheritance tax from an investment obstacle or barrier to<br />

an “almost” forgotten obstacle or barrier. We’re making<br />

progress, but we’re not there yet, as we will now see.<br />

In 2014, the Ruling of the European Union Court of Justice<br />

put an end to inheritance tax discrimination with<br />

respect to citizens of the EU because up until that ruling,<br />

Inheritance Tax had to be paid on all inheritance and donations<br />

from non-residents in Spain applying the State<br />

regulations, without the possibility of applying the tax<br />

benefits of the autonomous regions. If this ruling hadn’t<br />

been passed, Law 26/2014 wouldn’t have been approved<br />

and if this Law hadn’t been approved, EU citizens or those<br />

from the European Economic Area (EEA) with investments<br />

in Andalusia would not be able to benefit from the<br />

discounts of the autonomous region of Andalusia today.<br />

So today, for an inheritance where the deceased and<br />

the heir (parents and children or husband and wife, for<br />

example) are EU residents, it will be possible to apply<br />

the tax allowances of Andalusian (99% reduction of the<br />

tax charge for properties acquired as a result of the death<br />

of spouses and direct relatives) if there is some connection<br />

with this Region.<br />

But, as we were saying, we are making progress but we<br />

still have a long way to go. Nationals of countries outside<br />

the scope of the European Union or EEA are “still” discriminated<br />

against and although various sentences have<br />

openly declared that the discrimination of non-EU citizens<br />

violates the essential principle of the free movement<br />

of capital and consequently EU Law, the legislative change<br />

is not “yet” sufficient with respect to these people.<br />

The Supreme Court has already expressed its opinion,<br />

accepting that the discrimination of non-EU citizens is<br />

not possible, thus forcing the acceptance of voluntary tax<br />

payments by non-EU citizens with the tax allowances<br />

of the Autonomous Region with which they are related.<br />

When dealing with the scope of the principle of the free<br />

movement of capital, the CJEU did not hesitate to confirm<br />

that the 2014 ruling not only eliminated the discrimination<br />

of citizens of the EU and the EEA but directly<br />

eliminated discrimination regardless of whether the citizen<br />

was from the EU or EEA or outside of the EU.<br />

There are already binding consultations from the General<br />

Directorate of Taxes prioritising EU Law and emphasising<br />

the non-exclusion of citizens who do not belong<br />

to the EU or EEA. But the Tax Agency is being stubborn<br />

and continues to resist the change and in spite of<br />

the indications from the European Union through the<br />

Commission, it is still fighting it in the Supreme Court’s<br />

Chamber for appeals against administrative decisions<br />

to see if it can continue to discriminate against non-EU<br />

citizens.<br />

Hopefully we will soon be able to say, with no ongoing administrative<br />

battles, that all citizens -without exceptionswith<br />

a connection to Andalusia can benefit from the tax<br />

reductions on inheritance and donations contained in the<br />

new Andalusian regulations and we can make Marbella<br />

and the whole of Malaga even more attractive -if that’s possible-<br />

and I am sure it is possible from a tax point of view.<br />

SOBRE LA REFORMA EL IMPUESTO DE SUCESIONES EN ANDALUCÍA<br />

Tras la entrada en vigor del Decreto-ley<br />

1-/2019, el 11 de abril de 2019, el impuesto<br />

de sucesiones ha dejado de ser un dolor<br />

de cabeza para las familias en la Comunidad<br />

andaluza.<br />

En la modalidad de Sucesiones, se bonifica<br />

el 99% de la cuota del impuesto para<br />

las adquisiciones por fallecimiento de cónyuges<br />

y parientes directos y se mantienen<br />

las reducciones autonómicas que ya estaban<br />

vigentes antes, es decir, la reducción<br />

de 1.000.000 de euros sobre la base imponible<br />

con la finalidad de no perjudicar<br />

a las adquisiciones por herencias de hasta<br />

dicho importe, ya que de otro modo tendrían<br />

que pasar de no tributar a hacerlo<br />

por el 1%, tal y como explica la Exposición<br />

de motivos de la norma. Además en la<br />

modalidad del impuesto de Donaciones se<br />

bonifica también el 99% de la cuota del impuesto<br />

para adquisiciones por cónyuges y<br />

parientes directos con lo que en la práctica<br />

supone la casi eliminación del gravamen<br />

para estos grupos de contribuyentes.<br />

Acogida con satisfacción la norma, en la<br />

cosmopolita provincia de Málaga y especialmente<br />

en su costa viven, residen o<br />

nos visitan periódicamente, ciudadanos<br />

de todo el mundo que mantienen propiedades<br />

y bienes. Ahora, les podemos decir<br />

que también ellos pueden recibir con satisfacción<br />

la norma y ver con buenos ojos<br />

la paulatina evolución de la percepción<br />

del impuesto del impuesto de sucesiones<br />

como una traba o barrera de inversión<br />

hasta una traba o barrera “casi” olvidada.<br />

Hemos avanzado en el camino, pero<br />

no hemos terminado de recorrerlo, como<br />

veremos a continuación<br />

En año 2104 la Sentencia del Tribunal de<br />

Justicia de la Unión Europea acabó con la<br />

discriminación en el impuesto de sucesiones<br />

respecto de ciudadanos de la UE porque<br />

hasta dicha sentencia en todas las herencias<br />

y donaciones de no residentes en<br />

España se debía pagar por el Impuesto de<br />

Sucesiones aplicando la normativa estatal<br />

y sin posibilidad de aplicar los beneficios<br />

fiscales autonómicos. De no haberse dictado<br />

esta sentencia no se habría aprobado<br />

la Ley 26/2014 y de no haberse aprobado<br />

esta Ley los ciudadanos de la UE o del Espacio<br />

Económico Europeo (EEE) con intereses<br />

en Andalucía no podrían beneficiarse<br />

hoy de la rebaja autonómica Andaluza.<br />

Así, hoy, en una herencia en la que el fallecido<br />

y el heredero (padre e hijo o marido<br />

y esposa, por ejemplo) sean residentes<br />

comunitarios, se podrán aplicar los beneficios<br />

fiscales de la Comunidad Andaluza<br />

(bonificación del 99% de la cuota del impuesto<br />

para las adquisiciones por fallecimiento<br />

de cónyuges y parientes directos)<br />

si con ella existe un punto de conexión.<br />

Pero, como decía, hemos avanzado en el<br />

camino, pero no hemos terminado de recorrerlo.<br />

Los nacionales de países fuera<br />

del ámbito de la Unión Europea o del EEE<br />

“todavía” son discriminados y aunque<br />

varias sentencias han declarado abiertamente<br />

que la discriminación de extracomunitarios<br />

vulnera un principio esencial<br />

como es el de la libre de circulación de<br />

capitales y consecuentemente el Derecho<br />

de la UE, el cambio legislativo “aun” no es<br />

suficiente respecto de ellos.<br />

El Tribunal Supremo ya se ha pronunciado<br />

aceptando que no es posible la discriminación<br />

de extracomunitarios, forzando<br />

así el que se acepten autoliquidaciones<br />

de extracomunitarios con los beneficios<br />

fiscales autonómicas de la Comunidad<br />

Autónoma con la que exista conexión. El<br />

TJUE al hablar del alcance del principio<br />

de libertad de movimientos de capitales<br />

no dudaba en afirmar que la sentencia<br />

del año 2014 no solo eliminaba la discriminación<br />

de ciudadanos de la UE y del<br />

Espacio Económico Europeo, eliminaba,<br />

sin más, la discriminación con independencia<br />

que el ciudadano lo fuera de la UE<br />

del EEE o fuera extracomunitario.<br />

Existen ya consultas vinculantes de la<br />

Dirección General de Tributos jerarquizando<br />

el Derecho de la UE y pronunciándose<br />

sobre la no exclusión de ciudadanos<br />

no pertenecientes a la UE o al EEE. Pero<br />

la Hacienda Pública se muestra tozuda y<br />

sigue apretando en su sinsentido; y aun<br />

a pesar de lo que nos indica la Unión Europea<br />

a través de la Comisión mantiene,<br />

pugna aun en la Sala de lo Contencioso-Administrativo<br />

del Supremo para ver<br />

si puede seguir discriminando a los ciudadanos<br />

extracomunitarios.<br />

Esperamos poder decir que en breve y<br />

sin ninguna pugna administrativa todos<br />

los ciudadanos -sin más- con un punto de<br />

conexión en Andalucía podremos acogernos<br />

a los beneficios fiscales en materia de<br />

sucesiones y donaciones recogidos en la<br />

nueva norma andaluza y podamos hacer<br />

algo más atractiva -si cabe, y sí cabe fiscalmente-<br />

Marbella y toda Málaga.<br />

What’s the true essence of ANTIMA Homes? Why that name?<br />

To quote 1937 Nobel Prize winner Albert Szent, “Discovery consists of looking<br />

at the same thing as everyone else, and thinking something different.’’ This point<br />

Where did your passion for creating unique homes<br />

with the firm ANTIMA come from?<br />

Many years ago, I learned that life was more than<br />

work, phones and stock prices. I took my family<br />

on a long-promised world tour in a 35 metre<br />

Explorer yacht, where we learnt that the most<br />

important things in life are experiences. We had<br />

three kids all under 10 and together we built an<br />

amazing salt-water aquarium (we found shells,<br />

sand, water…); we went diving for pearls, we saw<br />

sand turtles on the beach… all things that awakened<br />

our senses, just as our homes do.<br />

Our aspiration is that owners of Antima homes can<br />

feel alive and enjoy every single detail of their new<br />

home. From the moment they wake up to a view of<br />

the magnificent sunrise, until bedtime when they<br />

can relax with an outlook to the changing hues of<br />

the Mediterranean sky at night. Our homes are set<br />

Since 2016 there has been a strong demand for the construction of new villas and<br />

modern apartments in the Marbella area: more<br />

specifically in Nueva Andalucía and Las Brisas.<br />

And although reports show a slowdown in sales<br />

on the Costa del Sol in the second half of last year<br />

(2018), they predict a recovery towards the end<br />

of this year. Malaga has always been a spearhead<br />

in the Spanish real estate market, and one of the<br />

most dynamic property investment destinations.<br />

However, it’s important to mention factors that<br />

have caused intermittent ups and downs in this<br />

market, such as the fall in sales suffered by the<br />

shock of everything related to Brexit, and the<br />

subsequent growth in demand from Scandinavian<br />

customers, which lead to market recovery. A<br />

general upturn in the economy in 2019 together<br />

with a decline in debt, lower interest and unemployment<br />

rates, have together reinforced the<br />

acceleration in the market during these first six<br />

months. In Antima’s case, we move in a slightly<br />

more stable market. Our owners belong in the<br />

high purchase power niche, and are usually impervious<br />

to economic changes and price points.<br />

How quickly can you make your business grow?<br />

We have had exponential growth since 2015 and<br />

according to our calculations, are set to grow by<br />

35% during 2020, thanks to new projects that<br />

we have underway.<br />

I like the perspective you have of looking for the<br />

diamond in the rough, the beauty, the potential,<br />

and you opted for Marbella as a city to expand<br />

and develop your businesses. What’s your<br />

strategy for acquiring a villa, for example? Do<br />

you only do this on the Costa del Sol, or do you<br />

have other areas of expansion in sight?<br />

Location is a crucial factor in the decision-making<br />

process when choosing our next project;<br />

although everything is based on intuition. When<br />

I visit a potential property, I can quickly detect<br />

its potential: I like to call it a connection, just like<br />

love at first sight… it’s a second, a click, and immediately<br />

I know: this will be an Antima home.<br />

Of course it’s important that we do not leave out<br />

the important economic details that need to be<br />

considered before making the final decision.<br />

We currently have projects in Marbella, Ibiza,<br />

London, Oslo and Los Angeles.<br />

Helene Forbes Flenei, co-founder of Christians &<br />

Hennie (Interior Designer), met your father. She<br />

says that he was a very strong, solid, trustworthy<br />

man... and she describes him as a gentleman. I<br />

suppose that, like father, like son, and the result<br />

of the passion and work of the Brendmoe family<br />

can be enjoyed in each of ANTIMA’s creations.<br />

Do you feel identified with your father? With his<br />

values? A value that your father and you share.<br />

My father instilled and educated me with his<br />

strong values: respect, honesty, sincerity, family,<br />

loyalty and trust. These values have accompanied<br />

me in every step I have taken in my life, whether<br />

in business or in my personal and family relationships.<br />

These are the values that I share with<br />

my wife, Hanne, and that our children have learned<br />

and inherited from us. In addition, our philosophy<br />

and passion have driven the growth of the<br />

Antima family. We have carefully selected great<br />

professionals who share our values. Together we<br />

are a strong and stable team working as one. I<br />

can proudly say that Antima is a family company.<br />

How do you see the youth of today?<br />

I have my children as examples: honest, hardworking,<br />

responsible and committed. They want<br />

to be part of…, to belong…, to grow... They were<br />

born in the new era, in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.<br />

When did you create Antima Charity Foundation,<br />

and why?<br />

As Henry David Thoreau said: “What is the use<br />

of a house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet<br />

to put it on?” Antima Charity Foundation was<br />

created in 2015. Collaborating with different<br />

organisations around the world, we campaign<br />

against poverty, animal rights and environmental<br />

issues. I consider myself a very lucky<br />

person. I believe that life has given me a great<br />

deal and that every day it continues to offer me<br />

new opportunities to grow. And because of this I<br />

strongly believe in giving back; in projecting my<br />

gratitude and supporting these causes with my<br />

little grain of sand.<br />

What prompted you to invest in the Costa del Sol?<br />

I have spent many summers in Marbella with<br />

my family. We loved to come and enjoy the climate,<br />

the people, the food, and I knew the area<br />

very well. So when we decided to grow Antima<br />

and start building in beautiful enclaves around<br />

Europe, it was something we didn’t even have<br />

to think twice about, we wanted to be able to<br />

spend as much time here as possible.<br />

After living in Marbella for some years, do you<br />

feel integrated in the Spanish culture?<br />

Absolutely. Food, sunshine, and a convivial atmosphere,<br />

are amongst the external factors<br />

that have contributed to an improved quality of<br />

life for us. But even more important, as a family,<br />

is how quickly our children have adapted to life<br />

here. This was the definitive in making us feel<br />

part of this wonderful city.<br />

encontramos, de estilo colonial, desde luego veo el<br />

interior y exterior de la casa, el paisajismo y<br />

la cuidada selección de materiales, el exquisito gusto<br />

en la decoración… Un gran equipo. Cuéntanos para<br />

los que no te conozcan ¿De dónde te nació tu pasión<br />

por crear casas únicas con la firma ANTIMA?<br />

Hace mucho tiempo aprendí que la vida era más que<br />

trabajo, teléfonos y los precios de las acciones.... Llevé<br />

a mi familia a recorrer el mundo en un yate explorador<br />

de 35 metros de eslora, donde entendí que lo más importante<br />

en la vida son las experiencias ya que teníamos<br />

3 hijos menores de 10 años con los que construimos<br />

Desde el año 2016 existe una fuerte demanda de nuevas villas y apartamentos<br />

modernos construidos en la zona de Marbella, más concretamente<br />

en Nueva Andalucía y Las Brisas.<br />

Existen informes que recogen una desaceleración<br />

de las ventas en la Costa del Sol en la segunda<br />

mitad del año pasado, pudiendo apreciar<br />

su recuperación a finales del año.<br />

Málaga ha sido la punta de lanza de España<br />

por ser siempre uno de los mercados inmobiliarios<br />

más dinámicos del país pero podríamos<br />

mencionar varios factores por los cuales sufre<br />

altibajos intermitentes, como pudo ser la caída<br />

de las ventas sufridas por la conmoción de todo<br />

lo referente al Brexit como factor de desaceleración<br />

o el crecimiento de la demanda de clientes<br />

escandinavos como factor recuperador. La<br />

aceleración económica generalizada de este año<br />

2019 con descensos de a deuda, la bajada de los<br />

tipos de interés y de la tasa de desempleo han<br />

reforzado el dinamismo de estos primeros seis<br />

meses. En nuestro caso, nos movemos en un<br />

mercado ligeramente más estable, ya que nuestros<br />

propietarios pertenecen a los nichos de alto<br />

poder adquisitivo, que suele ser menos sensible<br />

a los cambios económicos e insensible al precio.<br />

¿Cuán rápido puedes hacer crecer tu negocio?<br />

Hemos tenido un crecimiento exponencial desde el<br />

año 2015, por lo que, según nuestros cálculos, creceremos<br />

un 35% en el próximo año 2020 gracias<br />

a los nuevos proyectos que ya están en marcha.<br />

Me gusta la perspectiva que tienes de buscar<br />

el diamante en bruto, la belleza, el potencial<br />

y apostasteis por Marbella como una ciudad<br />

para expandir y desarrollar vuestros negocios.<br />

¿Cuál es tu estrategia de adquisición de una<br />

villa por ejemplo?, ¿Esto lo hacéis solamente<br />

en La Costa del Sol o tenéis otros puntos de expansión<br />

a la vista?<br />

La localización es el factor crucial para tomar<br />

la decisión de visitar la propiedad, pero después<br />

todo se basa en intuición. Cuando realizamos<br />

visitas para comprar propiedades, detecto rápidamente<br />

el potencial, me gusta llamarlo conexión.<br />

Es como si sintiera que caigo enamorado<br />

o amor a primera vista....es un segundo, un clic<br />

y enseguida lo sé: esté será un hogar de Antima<br />

Por supuesto no me olvido de los importantes<br />

detalles económicos que evidentemente están<br />

encima de la mesa para la toma final de la decisión.<br />

En estos momentos tenemos proyectos en<br />

Marbella, Ibiza, Londres, Oslo y Los Angeles.<br />

Mi padre me inculcó y educó bajo sus fuertes<br />

valores: respecto, honradez, sinceridad, amor a<br />

la familia, lealtad y confianza. Estos valores me<br />

han acompañado en cada paso que ido dando<br />

en mi vida, ya sea para los negocios como para<br />

mis relaciones personales y familiares. Valores<br />

que pude ver en mi mujer, Hanne, y que nos<br />

gusta pensar, y así lo comprobamos cada día,<br />

que nuestros hijos han heredado y aprendido de<br />

nosotros. Pero además, nuestro crecimiento ha<br />

impulsado que el crecimiento de la familia Antima,<br />

habiendo elegido grandes profesionales que<br />

también comparten estos valores siendo ahora<br />

un equipo fuerte y estable que rema en la misma<br />

Tengo a mis hijos como ejemplo: honestos,<br />

He veraneando durante muchos años en Marbella,<br />

a la familia nos encantaba venir a disfrutar<br />

del clima, la gente, la comida, ... Conocía muy<br />

bien la zona, por ello, cuando decidimos hacer<br />

crecer Antima y empezar a construir en hermosos<br />

enclaves dentro de Europa, fue algo en lo<br />

que ni siquiera tuvimos que pensar, queríamos<br />

poder pasar el mayor tiempo posible aquí.<br />

Viviendo estos años en Marbella, ¿Te sientes<br />

integrado en la cultura española?<br />

Absolutamente. Los factores externos como<br />

son la comida, el sol, la alegría de la gente, etc.,<br />

nos han ayudado a mejorar nuestra calidad de<br />

vida; pero lo más importante, como familia, lo<br />

rápido que se amoldaron nuestros hijos fue<br />

definitivo para sentirnos parte de esta maravillosa<br />

a patron who dedicates part of his fortune to<br />

promoting culture throughout the world.<br />

The yacht has its name and escutcheon carved<br />

in gold, and a beautiful outdoor pool that<br />

preferences at any given time. With a capacity<br />

for 30 guests and 60 crew members, celebrities<br />

such as the former American president,<br />

RISING SUN, $290 MILLION<br />

This superyacht was designed by Jon Bannenberg<br />

and built by the German shipyard,<br />

Lürssen, for the American entrepreneur and<br />

philanthropist, Larry Ellison, who is the founder<br />

of the technology company, Oracle Corporation.<br />

In March of this year, Ellison was included as<br />

the fourth richest person in the USA and the<br />

seventh in the world, with an estimated fortune<br />

of more than $66 billion. One of his latest<br />

donations was to the University of Southern<br />

California, to which he gave $200 million in<br />

order to create a cancer research centre.<br />

The yacht is one of the largest in the world. It<br />

has a surface area of 8,000 m2 and 82 rooms<br />

distributed on various levels. One singular<br />

feature is the basketball court on the main<br />

deck, which can also serve as a helipad.<br />

PELORUS, $300 MILLION<br />

Pelorus measures 115 metres in length and is so<br />

large that it houses a small collection of smaller<br />

vessels. Its owner is the Chinese tycoon,<br />

Sammy Tak Lee, the largest shareholder in the<br />

Shaftesbury Group, dedicated to real estate<br />

operations. According to Forbes, in February<br />

this year his assets amounted to almost $4 billion.<br />

The yacht was designed by Tim Heywood,<br />

and built by Lürssen in Germany. It has two<br />

helipads, zero-speed stabilisers, and a mobile<br />

wall in the master suite which can be lowered to<br />

convert the room into a private terrace.<br />

MOTOR YACHT A, $300 MILLION<br />

Designed by Philippe Starck and engineered<br />

by the naval architect, Martin Francis, the<br />

owner of this ostentatious yacht is the Russian<br />

entrepreneur, Andrey Melnichenko. His personal<br />

fortune is estimated at $13.9 billion, which<br />

positions him in the 90th position in the world<br />

list of millionaires in Forbes magazine. Melnichenko’s<br />

assets include majority stakes in the<br />

world’s leading fertiliser producer, and one of<br />

the world’s leading coal energy companies.


The master suite of his yacht measures 2,500<br />

square feet. Additionally, it has three swimming<br />

pools, six suites, and sliding walls to transform<br />

the spaces according to the time of day. More<br />

than 30 crew members provide service to the<br />

entrepreneur and his guests.<br />

AL SAID, $305 MILLION<br />

Al Said is one of the most impressive vessels<br />

in the world. Its owner is the Sultan Qaboos of<br />

Oman, a key figure in the equilibrium between<br />

the East and the West. With interiors designed<br />

by Redman Whiteley Dixon, the yacht is noteworthy<br />

for its concert hall, which is large enough to<br />

accommodate an orchestra of fifty musicians. In<br />

addition, it can reach up to 22 knots, and has a<br />

capacity for 70 guests and 154 crew members.<br />

SERENE, $330 MILLION<br />

Serene’s owner is Mohammed bin Salman, the<br />

crown prince of Saudi Arabia, who also serves<br />

as the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, among<br />

other positions. This superyacht has a surface<br />

area of almost 4,500 m2, distributed on seven<br />

decks. There is a cinema on board to see the<br />

latest releases, a spa to relax in and even a wood<br />

oven to make pizzas at sea.<br />

DILBAR, $600 MILLION<br />

Dilbar is a superyacht that combines elegance,<br />

sophistication and glamour. Built by the German<br />

shipyard, Lürssen, and designed by Espen<br />

Oeino, its owner is the Russian tycoon of Uzbek<br />

origin, Alisher Usmanov. With a fortune of<br />

about 13 billion dollars, Usmanov was one of the<br />

shareholders of Arsenal Football Club, which led<br />

him to become the third richest man in Russia.<br />

Dilbar can sail at a speed of over 22 knots, and<br />

accommodate 40 guests and a crew of at least 80<br />

people. Its indoor pool of over 180 cubic metres,<br />

is the largest of all luxury yachts built to date.<br />

AZZAM, $600 MILLION<br />

Azzam, with its almost 180 metres in length, is<br />

one of the longest superyachts in the world. Its<br />

owner is Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,<br />

the current President of the United Arab Emirates,<br />

who ranks third in the list of richest rulers<br />

on the planet, according to Forbes magazine.<br />

A sports enthusiast, mainly of horse and camel racing,<br />

which could be what led him to acquire a yacht<br />

that can reach the impressive speed of 30 knots. Regarding<br />

its interior, the designer Christophe Leoni<br />

has defined it as “sophisticated and luxurious, with<br />

a style of the Empire at the turn of the century.”<br />

ECLIPSE, $1.5 BILLION<br />

Eclipse is owned by the Russian billionaire, Roman<br />

Abramovich, whose fortune comes mainly<br />

from oil. Abramovich is also the owner of the<br />

Premier League football club, Chelsea.<br />

Among the billionaire’s indulgences are luxury<br />

yachts. Eclipse measures 170 metres, has two<br />

helipads, eleven guest suites, two swimming<br />

pools, a disco, several jacuzzis, three boats and<br />

a mini submarine which can descend to around<br />

50 metres. For this luxury vessel to work perfectly,<br />

a crew of 70 people is needed.<br />

Built by the shipbuilder Blohm+Voss, based<br />

in Germany, the vessel is an authentic refuge.<br />

It has modern intrusion detection systems,<br />

armoured glass and even a missile defense<br />

system. It is said that Abramovich is a generous<br />

man, who lends the yacht to the players<br />

of Chelsea F.C. on request, with the condition<br />

that they give an excellent performance in<br />

their matches.<br />

Despite the immense size of these superyachts,<br />

it is not easy to come across one of them sailing<br />

on the high seas. Those who are lucky enough<br />

to have seen them pass by can understand instantly<br />

why a few days sailing can indisputably<br />

become the best possible vacation.<br />

Motor Yacht A, 300 millones de dólares<br />

Diseñado por Philippe Starck, con la participación<br />

del arquitecto Martin Francis, el propietario<br />

de este ostentoso yate es el empresario<br />

ruso Andrey Melnichenko. Su fortuna personal<br />

está estimada en 13.800 millones de dólares,<br />

lo que le hace ocupar el puesto número 90<br />

de la lista mundial de millonarios en la revista<br />

Forbes. Entre los bienes de Melnichenko se<br />

incluyen acciones en el primer productor mundial<br />

de fertilizantes y una de las principales<br />

productoras de carbón a nivel mundial.<br />

La habitación principal de su barco mide 2.500<br />

pies cuadrados. Además, el yate posee tres<br />

embarcación cuenta con casi 4.500 m2 distribuidos<br />

en siete cubiertas. No falta una sala<br />

de cine dentro del barco para ver los últimos<br />

estrenos, un relajante spa e incluso un horno<br />

de leña para hacer pizzas en alta mar.<br />

Dilbar es un barco que sabe aunar elegancia,<br />

sofisticación y glamour. Construido por el astillero<br />

Apasionado de los deportes, principalmente<br />

de las carreras de caballos y camellos, quizá<br />

sea éste el motivo que le ha llevado a adquirir<br />

un barco que puede alcanzar la impresionante<br />

velocidad de 30 nudos. Respecto a su interior,<br />

el diseñador Christophe Leoni lo ha definido<br />

como “sofisticado y lujoso, de un estilo del Imperio<br />

Panorama, Marbella’s longest-established real<br />

estate agency, was founded in 1970, and has<br />

earned a reputation for providing a highly professional<br />

What most people are unaware of is that Christopher<br />

Clover, Panorama’s owner and Managing<br />

Director, comes from a three generation-old family<br />

of real estate agents and entrepreneurs.<br />

The fourth generation of professionals, Christopher’s<br />

children, Alex and Katinka, are also<br />

key members of Panorama’s team who joined<br />

the company after the turn of this century.<br />

Christopher’s grandfather, Burtt Byron Clover,<br />

was one of the first golf course developers<br />

in the United States, and a developer of single-family<br />

homes in Chicago. In 1.904, he founded<br />

B.B. Clover and Company, a real estate<br />

and property development company.<br />

In 1952, when B.B. retired, he opened Clover<br />

Realty Company in Charlottesville, Virginia<br />

with his son, Christopher’s father, Williston<br />

(Bill) L. Clover, who continued the family tradition<br />

for over 40 years. In 1968 Bill bought<br />

Panorama International, an international real<br />

estate company based in Washington D.C.<br />

Panorama International was the first company<br />

to offer international properties and developments<br />

to investors in the United States.<br />

The company distinguished itself by selling<br />

second and retirement homes in Mexico, the<br />

Caribbean, France, Morocco, and most notably<br />

Spain. It established the first international<br />

real estate office in Marbella in 1970 and<br />

shortly thereafter, offices in Mexico City and<br />

Mallorca.<br />

It was the first real estate agency to ever organise<br />

inspection flights to the Costa del Sol.<br />

In 1971 Christopher joined his father and brother<br />

(Williston H. Clover) at Panorama International<br />

in Washington DC.<br />

Armed with a strong linguistic background and<br />

after gaining extensive experience, Chris arrived<br />

in Spain in February 1973, taking charge of<br />

the Marbella office. In that same year, Chris<br />

expanded the Spanish office to concentrate on<br />

the listing and sale of prestige properties in the<br />

Marbella area to an international market.<br />

In 1975 Panorama International closed its Washington<br />

DC office due to a combination of a<br />

strong recession and new securities legislation<br />

that made it impossible to continue the business<br />

as it had been originally structured.<br />

The Race for Water scientific research proved<br />

that “plastic islands” do not exist. Micro particles<br />

of plastic drift in the ocean; while only 1% of the<br />

plastic remains at the surface. The Foundation is<br />

working towards offering solution for preserving<br />

the oceans from plastic pollution, a genuine environmental<br />

disaster on a planetary scale.<br />

From age ten to fifteen,<br />

Robert spent his summers<br />

working at his father’s<br />

engineering plant, becoming<br />

a gifted engineer in fine micro<br />

precision tooling. At age sixteen<br />

Robert worked in a pawn<br />

shop, learning about diamonds<br />

and their values, as well as how<br />

to trade them in the industry.<br />

After university, Robert opened<br />

Diamonds on Rodeo on<br />

Rodeo Drive in the heart of Beverly<br />

Hills, where he continued<br />

to learn the art of fine jewels.<br />

It was during this time that he secured the first of his Presidential<br />

Commissions with President Ronald Reagan, and<br />

his clients since then have included both royalty and heads<br />

of state. Robert became the first American to be CEO of the<br />

Crown Jeweler, serving Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, and<br />

caring for the crown jewels at the Tower of London. His<br />

other royal commissions included the evaluation of the<br />

Royal Crown of India, the making of the Malaysian Crown<br />

Jewels, and the recreation of the Marie Antoinette Necklace.<br />

Along the way, Robert developed a trusted reputation<br />

for quality and discretion, and has been honored to handle<br />

some of the finest gemstones in existence, including the<br />

Cleopatra Sapphire, the Heart of the Kingdom Ruby, and<br />

the 665 Carat Imperial Emerald.<br />

Robert further refined his expertise by traveling the world<br />

and learning from the great masters of different disciplines.<br />

Robert befriended Master Diamond Cutter Gabi Tolkowsky,<br />

from whom he learned the artistry of different cutting<br />

styles. He also learned how Gabi cut the largest blue diamond<br />

in the world. In Bogota, Colombia, Robert studied under<br />

Master Emerald Cutter Adolfo Argotty. From Thailand<br />

to America, he learned the<br />

art of cutting sapphires and rubies.<br />

Robert’s wide-ranging experiences in the industry have given<br />

him a keen eye for finding the finest cutters, artisans<br />

and master craftsmen. He has spent his life assembling a<br />

team whose combined experience, talent, and passion to<br />

achieve beyond the limits of today’s bounds has served to<br />

produce flawless color gem treasures. Recently, Robert was<br />

honored by having a necklace specially selected for permanent<br />

placement in the National Gem Collection at The Smithsonian<br />

Institute.<br />

We’re with Angelika Legowik at the<br />

managed for years.<br />

Tell us how you started out in the fashion<br />

world.<br />

At the age of 17, I started travelling with my<br />

mother to Milan to see the Gianni Versace collections.<br />

She had the Versace brand in Germany.It<br />

was an incredible, unforgettable experience<br />

and I learned a lot. It was my ‘fashion<br />

university’. When I was 26, I decided to open<br />

my first store in Marbella, and the brands sold<br />

were La Perla, Valentino, Cavalli, amongst<br />

many others. 7 years ago, I discovered Elisabetta<br />

Franchi’s collection, and it was love at<br />

first sight - a love so intense that last year I<br />

decided to open the store with this brand in<br />

Puerto Banús.<br />

What do you like most about your business?<br />

What I like most is acquiring the new collections<br />

and doing the visual merchandising of<br />

the store. I also have a passion for organising<br />

and preparing all the fashion shows and<br />

events.<br />

Could you describe in detail what a normal<br />

day in your life is like?<br />

My day starts very early. I do yoga or sports<br />

for half an hour. Then I have breakfast with<br />

my daughter and take her to school. From there,<br />

I go to my stores in Puerto Banús, and in<br />

the afternoon, I devote time to my family and<br />

friends. I also do the shopping and organise<br />

dinner. It’s my family space.<br />

How did the idea of setting up in Puerto Banús<br />

come about?<br />

I’ve had stores in Puerto Banús for almost 15<br />

years, for me there is no better place in Marbella<br />

to go shopping.<br />

Banús is the most famous port in Spain and<br />

Elisabetta Franchi is a fashion reference in<br />

Puerto Banús, because it has a wide range of<br />

party wear and extravagant, unique garments<br />

in general. It’s what people look for in Puerto<br />

Banús.<br />

Could you define what success is for you?<br />

Success for me is being truly happy in life. This<br />

means working in something you love, because<br />

then you don’t look on it as work, it’s pleasure.<br />

Having time for family and friends is real<br />

success.<br />

With everything you’ve lived and experienced,<br />

what do you think the best thing about<br />

being a female entrepreneur is?<br />

The best thing about being a female entrepreneur<br />

is that I can organise my day to suit myself,<br />

and I personally need to manage my time<br />

to work, and my time to be with family and<br />

friends. It hasn’t always been that way.<br />

What advice would you give to a woman who<br />

wants to set up a business, like you, but is hesitant?<br />

My advice is not to overthink everything. You<br />

have to take risks in life in order to achieve something.<br />

My dream was to have the Elisabetta<br />

Franchi store, and I’ve made it come true.<br />

Is it complicated being a businesswoman and<br />

a mother at the same time?<br />

It’s not complicated, if you know how to organise<br />

yourself.<br />

I believe your mother is also involved in the<br />

world of fashion. What have you learned<br />

from her?<br />

That’s right, my mother owns the Philipp Plein<br />

stores in Puerto Banús and Mallorca. She’s<br />

always had businesses. And the main thing<br />

I’ve learned from her is not to be afraid of new<br />

challenges or changes. My mother has been,<br />

and still is, an important role model in my life.<br />

Very famous people visit Puerto Banús. Who<br />

have you met in your store and what can you<br />

tell us?<br />

The celebrities: Eva Longoria, Ana Obregón,<br />

Georgina Rodríguez, Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend,<br />

etc. and lots of famous bloggers...<br />

Do you consider yourself lucky?<br />

It depends. Is it luck that I own the store of<br />

my dreams? It’s not luck, it’s work and perseverance<br />

and, of course, having a good eye for<br />

fashion. It’s many years of experience.<br />

Luck is being my daughter’s mother - such a<br />

special girl who helps me to change, and shows<br />

me how to live life every day.<br />

What do you recommend from your new collection?<br />

I recommend everything. In the new collection<br />

there are beautiful jackets, trousers in all cuts<br />

and colours, and dresses for any occasion.<br />

Elisabetta has everything a woman could wish<br />

for to feel sexy, confident and very feminine in<br />

every season.<br />

la Boutique ELISABETTA FRANCHI en Puerto<br />

Banús, la cual dirige y gestiona desde hace<br />

años.<br />

Cuéntanos cómo empezaste en el mundo de la<br />

moda<br />

Con 17 años comencé a viajar con mi madre a<br />

Milán y a ver las colecciones de Gianni Versace.<br />

Ella tenía la marca Versace en Alemania.<br />

Fue una experiencia increíble e inolvidable y<br />

donde aprendí muchísimo. Fue mi Universidad<br />

de la moda.<br />

Con 26 años decidí abrir mi primera tienda<br />

en Marbella y las marcas que vendían eran La<br />

Perla, Valentino, Cavalli y muchas más. Hace 7<br />

años descubrí la colección de Elisabetta Franchi<br />

y me enamoré a primer vista siendo de tal<br />

intensidad este amor que el año pasado decidí<br />

abrir la tienda con esta marca en Puerto Banús.<br />

¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de tu negocio?<br />

Lo más que me gusta es adquirir las nuevas colecciones<br />

y hacer el visual de la tienda. También<br />

me apasiona organizar y preparar todos los desfiles<br />

y eventos.<br />

Podrías detallarme como sería un día cualquiera<br />

en tu vida<br />

Mi día comienza muy temprano. Hago yoga o<br />

deporte durante media hora. Después desayuno<br />

con mi hija y la llevo al colegio. A continuación<br />

voy a mis tiendas en Puerto Banús, y por la tarde<br />

dedico tiempo para mi familia y amigos hago<br />

también la compra de la casa y organizo la cena.<br />

Es mi espacio familiar.<br />

¿Cómo surgió la idea de abrir en Puerto Banús?<br />

Tengo tiendas en Puerto Banús desde hace casi<br />

15 años, para mí no existe otro lugar mejor para<br />

hacer ir de compras en Marbella.<br />

Banús es el Puerto más conocido de España<br />

y Elisabetta Franchi es un referente en moda<br />

en Puerto Banús, porque posee mucha ropa de<br />

fiesta y en general prendas extravagantes y únicas.<br />

Es lo que busca el público en Puerto Banús.<br />

¿Podrías darnos una definición de lo que entiendes<br />

por éxito?<br />

Éxito para mi es ser y estar feliz en la vida, significa<br />

desempeñar el trabajo que amas, porque<br />

no lo sientes como trabajo, es un placer. Tener<br />

tiempo para la familia y amigos es tener éxito.<br />

Con todo lo que has vivido y experimentado<br />

¿qué crees que es lo mejor de ser mujer empresaria?<br />

Lo mejor de ser mujer empresaria es que puedo<br />

organizarme cada día como quiero y, yo personalmente<br />

necesito gestionar mi tiempo para<br />

trabajar y estar con mi familia y mis amistades.<br />

No siempre ha sido así.<br />

¿Qué consejos le darías a una mujer que quiere<br />

emprender, como tú, y no se atreve a hacerlo?<br />

Mi consejo es no dar tantas vueltas y pensar<br />

demasiado. Hay que arriesgarse en la vida<br />

para conseguir algo. Mi sueño era tener la<br />

tienda Elisabetta Franchi y lo he conseguido.<br />

¿Es complicado ser empresaria y<br />

madre a la vez?<br />

Nos es complicado, si sabes organizarte.<br />

Tengo entendido que tu madre<br />

también está involucrada en el<br />

mundo de la moda. ¿Qué has<br />

aprendido de ella?<br />

Efectivamente mi madre es dueña<br />

de las tiendas de Philipp Plein<br />

en Puerto Banús y Mallorca.<br />

Siempre ha tenido negocios. Y de<br />

lo que más he aprendido de ella<br />

es a no tener miedo de los nuevos retos ni a los<br />

cambios. Mi madre ha sido y sigue siendo un<br />

referente en mi vida.<br />

Por Puerto Banús pasa gente muy famosa ¿A<br />

quién has conocido en tu tienda y qué puedes<br />

contarnos?<br />

Los conocidos: Eva Longoria, Ana Obregón,<br />

Georgina Rodríguez, la novia de Cristiano Ronaldo<br />

etc. y muchísimas blogueras conocidas...<br />

¿Te consideras una mujer con suerte?<br />

Depende. ¿Es tener suerte ser dueña de la<br />

tienda de mis sueños? No es suerte, es trabajo<br />

y constancia y, por supuesto, disponer de un<br />

buen ojo para la moda. Son años de experiencia.<br />

Suerte es ser la madre de mi hija, una niña tan<br />

especial que cada día me ayuda a cambiar y me<br />

enseña a vivir.<br />

¿Qué recomiendas de tu nueva colección?<br />

Recomiendo todo. En la nueva colección hay<br />

chaquetas preciosas, pantalones de todos los<br />

cortes y colores, vestidos para cualquier ocasión.<br />

Elisabetta dispone en cada temporada de<br />

todo lo que una mujer desea para sentirse sexi,<br />

segura y muy femenina.<br />

Norma Jeane, the daughter of Gladys Baker, a woman of a<br />

nervous disposition who had been abandoned by two husbands,<br />

was born in Los Angeles in 1926 and spent the first weeks<br />

of her life sleeping in a drawer.<br />

When her mother is admitted to a psychiatric hospital, she begins<br />

her long pilgrimage from one adoptive family to another<br />

until she ends up in an orphanage… I’m not going to expand on<br />

her sad childhood and traumatic adolescence, nor on the melodramatic<br />

stories that so often precede the road to success in the<br />

entertainment world.<br />

I will briefly highlight a few words that sum up some thoughts<br />

that demonstrate how she handled being a woman in a man’s<br />

world, and her sad childhood:<br />

“When I was a child,” Marilyn said, “maybe at the age of 6 or 7, I<br />

dreamed that I was in a church without any clothes on, naked, but<br />

without feeling any shame.” Her interpretation of the dream was:<br />

“I probably wanted to take my clothes off because I was ashamed of<br />

them.” They were orphan’s dresses. Naked, she was the same as the<br />

other girls. The fact is, however, that Marilyn naked was not like any<br />

other girl: she was pure feminine perfection, and she knew it.<br />

Norma Jeane Mortenson was born on<br />

June 1st, 1926, at the Los Angeles General<br />

Hospital.<br />

She never knew her father, and it is said<br />

that this deeply marked the personality<br />

of a beautiful, intelligent, hypersensitive,<br />

flirtatious, dissatisfied woman, who was<br />

constantly seeking the safeguard of a<br />

protective man. The absence of a father<br />

figure and the weak presence of a mentally<br />

unstable mother meant that Norma Jeane<br />

spent her childhood with adoptive parents<br />

and in foster homes. At 16 she married<br />

James Dougherty to avoid the orphanage.<br />

She later married Joe DiMaggio (who loved<br />

her deeply) and Arthur Miller... Both<br />

these marriages would also fail.<br />

It is rumored that the list of Marilyn’s<br />

lovers was endless: Elia Kazan, Marlon<br />

Brando, Tony Curtis, the Kennedy brothers<br />

(John and Robert), Frank Sinatra...<br />

Marilyn and Arthur Miller were together until 1961. He was the<br />

man who valued her talent the most, and who understood the<br />

void that suffocated her.<br />

A victim of the STAR SYSTEM of the golden years of Hollywood,<br />

Marilyn sold her body to several producers, and in her<br />

memoirs she acknowledged having slept with executives of the<br />

main film studios, such as Joseph Schenck, co-founder of 20th<br />

Century Fox, who opened the doors of stardom for her.<br />

The star always felt trapped and typecast in the role of the<br />

dumb, frivolous, sensual blonde, but fought until her final breath<br />

to be able to play more complex characters.<br />

Marilyn loved literature. This could explain the fact that one of<br />

her husbands was the famous playwright, Arthur Miller, and<br />

that her third and last husband and great friend,<br />

Truman Capote, was the author of “Breakfast at<br />

Tiffany’s,” a novella he wrote and dedicated to Marilyn,<br />

even though it was ultimately Audrey Hepburn<br />

However, “the blonde”<br />

was anything but dumb...<br />

It is said that her IQ was<br />

above average, and that her<br />

intellectual curiosity led her<br />

to own a vast library filled<br />

to capacity with volumes<br />

(of politics, philosophy,<br />

literature...) in which she<br />

made notes on the margins.<br />

And yet the image she projected was quite the<br />

opposite, more along the lines of the roles of the<br />

superficial woman and “husband-hunter” in which<br />

Hollywood typecast her. Marilyn was a character<br />

she created by herself, with enormous ingenuity.<br />

There was something magical, yet despondent at<br />

the same time, about her. She was the most desired<br />

woman of the twentieth century. Her measurements:<br />

94-58-92, 1.66 m and 53 kg...<br />

She shocked men and women alike when she confessed<br />

that she did not wear underwear, or that<br />

Chanel No. 5 was all she wore in bed.<br />

In the cinema, despite the praise of the critics and<br />

the compelling evidence of the screen, it was not<br />

until her part in NIAGARA that she obtained her<br />

first important role. The whole world would discover<br />

that Marilyn Monroe was much more than just<br />

a simple actress.<br />

On August 5th, 1962, at 4:55 a.m., the head of the<br />

Los Angeles Police Department, Jack Clemmons,<br />

received a call from Dr. Greenson saying that the<br />

actress had died. On arriving at her home, Clemmons<br />

observed a series of inconsistencies in the<br />

testimonies of the doctors and her housekeeper,<br />

who was in a state of nerves. It was never discovered<br />

why she took so long to notify the authorities...<br />

Her sudden and mysterious death at a crucial moment<br />

in her personal life made her ETERNAL.<br />

Actresses, models and singers have all at some<br />

time wanted to put themselves in the shoes of the<br />

protagonist of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”.<br />

Norma Jeane, hija de Gladys Baker, una mujer de nervios frágiles y abandonada por<br />

dos maridos, nació en Los Ángeles en 1926 y pasó sus primeras semanas de vida<br />

en un cajón.<br />

Cuando su madre es internada en un hospital psiquiátrico, comienza su largo peregrinar de<br />

una familia adoptiva a otra hasta acabar en un orfanato… No me voy a explayar en su triste<br />

infancia y en su traumática adolescencia, ni en los relatos melodramáticos que a menudo<br />

preceden el camino hacia el éxito en el mundo del espectáculo.<br />

Voy a destacar muy brevemente unas palabras que resumen unos pensamientos que demuestran<br />

como ella controlaba el poder ser una mujer en un mundo de hombres y su triste<br />

infancia:<br />

“Cuando era una niña – contaba Marilyn – puede que a los 6 o 7 años, soñé que me<br />

encontraba en una iglesia sin nada de ropa, desnuda, pero sin sentir vergüenza alguna”<br />

Su interpretación del sueño era que probablemente “quería quitarme la ropa<br />

de encima porque me avergonzaba”. Eran vestidos de huérfana. Desnuda era igual<br />

que las demás chicas. La cuestión sin embargo, es que desnuda Marilyn no era como<br />

cualquier otra chica: Era la pura perfección femenina y ella lo sabía.<br />

Sin embargo, “la rubia” no tenía ni un pelo de tonta… Dicen que su coeficiente<br />

intelectual estaba por encima de la media y que sus inquietudes la hacían<br />

poseedora de una amplísima biblioteca a rebosar de volúmenes (de política,<br />

filosofía, literatura…), en los que hacía anotaciones al margen.<br />

Norma Jeane Mortenson nació un 1 de junio en<br />

el Hospital General de Los Ángeles en el año<br />

1926.<br />

Nunca conoció a su padre y dicen que eso marcó<br />

profundamente la personalidad de una mujer<br />

bella, inteligente, hipersensible, coqueta, insatisfecha,<br />

que siempre buscó el amparo de un<br />

hombre protector. La ausencia de la figura paterna<br />

y la débil presencia de una madre mentalmente<br />

inestable, determinaron que Norma Jane<br />

pasara su infancia entre padres adoptivos y casas<br />

de acogida. A los 16 años se casó para evitar<br />

el orfanato con James Dougherty. Después se<br />

casaría nuevamente con Joe DiMaggio (que la<br />

amó profundamente) y con Arthur Miller… Ambos<br />

matrimonios fracasarían también.<br />

Se rumorea que la lista de amantes de Marilyn<br />

era interminable: Elia Kazan, Marlon Brando,<br />

Tony Curtis, los hermanos Kennedy (John y<br />

Robert), Frank Sinatra…<br />

Víctima del STAR SYSTEM de los años dorados<br />

de Hollywood, Marilyn vendió su cuerpo a<br />

varios productores y en sus memorias reconoció<br />

haberse acostado con algunos jefes de los<br />

grandes estudios como Joseph Schenck, fundador<br />

de la 20th Century Fox, quien le abrió las<br />

puertas del estrellato.<br />

La estrella siempre se vio atrapada y encasillada<br />

en la imagen de rubia tonta, frívola y sensual,<br />

pero luchó hasta el último aliento para poder interpretar<br />

personajes más complejos.<br />

Marilyn adoraba la literatura. De ahí que uno<br />

de sus maridos fuera el famoso escritor Arthur<br />

Miller, su tercer y último esposo y su gran amigo<br />

Truman Capote, autor de “Desayuno con<br />

diamantes”, una película que escribió y dedicó<br />

a Marilyn, pese a que al final la interpretara Audrey<br />

Hepburn.<br />

Y aun así, su imagen proyectaba todo lo contrario,<br />

más en la línea de los papeles de mujer superficial<br />

y “cazamaridos” en los que Hollywood<br />

la encasilló.<br />

Marilyn fue un personaje creado por ella, con un<br />

ingenio enormemente agudo.<br />

confesaba que no utilizaba ropa interior o que<br />

En el cine, pese a los halagos de los críticos o<br />

la incontestable evidencia de la pantalla, no fue<br />

hasta el papel de NIAGARA, donde obtuvo su<br />

primer papel de importancia. El mundo entero<br />

descubriría que Marilyn Monroe era mucho<br />

más que una simple actriz.<br />

El 5 de agosto de 1962, a las 4:55h de la madrugada,<br />

el jefe del departamento de Policía de Los<br />

Ángeles, Jack Clemmons, recibió una llamada<br />

de doctor Greenson diciendo que la actriz había<br />

muerto.<br />

Al llegar a su casa, Clemmons advirtió una serie<br />

de incongruencias en los testimonios de los<br />

médicos y su ama de llaves que se mostró muy<br />

nerviosa. Jamás se descubrió por qué tardó<br />

tanto en avisar a las autoridades…<br />

La muerte súbita y misteriosa en un momento<br />

crucial de su vida personal, la hizo ETERNA.<br />

Actrices, modelos y cantantes han querido en<br />

algún momento ponerse en la piel de la protagonista<br />

de “Los caballeros las prefieren rubias”.<br />

EXPANSION AND IMPROVEMENTS<br />

at the Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital is already<br />

operational. The space is distributed in 13<br />

rooms, of which 3 are suites. It occupies over<br />

600 square metres, and is equipped with the<br />

and technical-digital advances which benefit<br />

and streamline doctor-patient-nursing relationships,<br />

making them smooth and constant.<br />

With this new step, the hospital centre, which<br />

occupies a privileged location on the beachfront<br />

at the entrance to the city of Marbella, on Severo<br />

Ochoa Avenue, has 80 rooms, the majority<br />

with sea views, which ensures an even more<br />

harmonious, warm, pleasant atmosphere.<br />

In order to get an idea of the scale of the improvements<br />

and investments made by Quirónsalud in<br />

its hospital in Marbella, we would highlight that<br />

one million euros has been invested in the 1,000<br />

square metres of its new fourth floor alone. Thus,<br />

this area shares space with the Day Hospital,<br />

along with the newly-opened Nursing Station,<br />

which has been equipped with a novel patient-nurse<br />

communication system via video-calling.<br />

DIGITAL ROOMS<br />

With the firm purpose of improving the patient’s<br />

experience and stay, the “digital room”<br />

project has been implemented in Quirón Marbella,<br />

which, by extension, provides professionals<br />

with the most advanced tools for the diagnosis<br />

and treatment of different pathologies.<br />

Technology is one of the hallmarks which defines<br />

the improvement plan of the Quirónsalud<br />

Hospital Group, so Marbella is the cutting edge<br />

Each of the hospital rooms has a tablet device,<br />

with which patients can access the “Patient Portal”.<br />

This window contains all the information<br />

and data of their medical history. In a further<br />

step to being at the forefront, patients have the<br />

possibility to surf the<br />

Internet and watch television.<br />

The rooms are equipped with the new “digital<br />

rooms” system, so that patients and their families<br />

have all kinds of entertainment at their<br />

disposal, such as on-demand video on the most<br />

popular digital platforms, such as Netflix, HBO<br />

and others. The automation system also allows<br />

the patient to switch on, regulate and switch off<br />

the lights in the room.<br />

HUMANISATION OF HOSPITALISATION<br />

As a preview, we can reveal that in the second<br />

phase of this hospital humanisation project, it<br />

will be possible for orders to be made to the kitchen<br />

and programmed times of pending medical<br />

tests consulted, as well as the entire history<br />

of the admission, from the room tablet. We are<br />

currently working on other advances related to<br />

the automation system, such as being able to<br />

control the temperature of the room, and the<br />

blinds.<br />

VEMENTS<br />

Quirónsalud Marbella has managed to incorporate<br />

prestigious doctors, invest in the best<br />

equipment to offer the latest technology in the<br />

private market, include new specialties and enhance<br />

existing ones, with a firm commitment to<br />

hotel facilities and services, and, in general, increase<br />

the operational efficiency of the hospital<br />

in order to offer the best possible service to the<br />

citizens of Marbella and the tourists and visitors<br />

to the area, so that they can benefit from<br />

Con este nuevo paso, el centro hospitalario situado<br />

privilegiadamente en primera línea de playa,<br />

a la entrada de Marbella, en la avenida Severo<br />

Ochoa, cuenta con 80 habitaciones -en su grueso<br />

con vistas al mar-, que aseguran, más si cabe, un<br />

ambiente armonioso, cálido y placentero.<br />

Para hacernos una idea de la dimensión de estas<br />

reformas e inversiones de Quirónsalud en<br />

su hospital de Marbella, resaltar que solo en<br />

los 1.000 metros cuadrados de su nueva cuarta<br />

planta se ha invertido un millón de euros. Así,<br />

este área comparte espacio con el Hospital de<br />

Día junto con el estrenado control de Enfermería,<br />

al que se ha dotado de un novedoso sistema<br />

de comunicación paciente-enfermera a través<br />

de vídeo llamada.<br />

HABITACIONES DIGITALES<br />

Con el firme propósito de mejorar la experiencia<br />

y estancia del paciente, en Quirón Marbella se ha<br />

implementado el proyecto “habitación digital”,<br />

que por extensión, facilita a los profesionales las<br />

herramientas más avanzadas para el diagnóstico<br />

y tratamiento de las distintas patologías.<br />

La tecnología es una de las señas de identidad<br />

que marca el plan de mejora del Grupo Hospitalario<br />

Quirónsalud, por lo que Marbella es punta<br />

de lanza en este campo.<br />

Cada una de las estancias del hospital cuenta<br />

con un dispositivo Tablet, con el que los ingresados<br />

pueden acceder al “Portal del Paciente”. En<br />

dicha ventana constan toda la información y los<br />

datos de su historia clínica. En un paso más por<br />

estar a la última, el paciente tiene la posibilidad<br />

de navegar por Internet y ver la televisión.<br />

Las habitaciones están asistidas por el nuevo<br />

sistema de “habitaciones digitales”, de tal modo<br />

que, a través de iPads integrados en la estancia,<br />

los pacientes y sus familiares tienen a su alcance<br />

todo tipo de entretenimiento, como vídeo a<br />

demanda en las plataformas digitales más exitosas,<br />

como Netflix, HBO y otras. La domótica<br />

permite igualmente el encendido, regulación y<br />

apagado de luces de la estancia.<br />

HUMANIZACIÓN HOSPITALARIA<br />

Como avance podemos compartir que en una<br />

segunda fase de este proyecto de humanización<br />

hospitalaria, desde la tableta de la habitación<br />

podrán realizarse pedidos a cocina, conocer la<br />

hora de programación de las pruebas médicas<br />

pendientes y acceder y consultar todo el historial<br />

del episodio del ingreso. Actualmente ya<br />

se trabaja en otros avances relacionados con la<br />

domótica, como poder controlar la temperatura<br />

de la habitación y de las persianas.<br />

OBJETIVOS, PRIORIDADES Y LOGROS<br />

Quirónsalud Marbella ha logrado incorporar a<br />

prestigiosos médicos, invertir en el mejor equipamiento<br />

para ofrecer la mejor tecnología en el<br />

mercado privado, incorporar nuevas especialidades<br />

y potenciar las ya existentes, con una<br />

apuesta decidida en instalaciones y servicios<br />

hoteleros, y, en general, incrementar la eficiencia<br />

operativa del hospital para ofrecer y compartir<br />

What are Elite Spain’s success factors? Elite Spain, the<br />

Spanish Luxury Federation is revolutionizing the way the<br />

luxury and high-end sector work. We spoke with Sandra<br />

Andújar, CEO of this growing organization.<br />

What is the Spanish Luxury Federation Elite Spain?<br />

The Federation is registered on the National Registry of<br />

the Spanish Ministry of Internal Affairs. We are proud to<br />

unite over 80 exclusive companies in the luxury and high-end<br />

sector. These members are a series of international<br />

and national multi-sector companies working in fields<br />

such as Fashion, Cosmetics, Furniture, Decoration, Tourism,<br />

Gourmet, Airlines, Banks, Real Estate, Motors, etc.<br />

that meet specific and strict selection criteria.<br />

We do not see our members just as associates, The Spanish<br />

Luxury Federation Elite Spain’s DNA is to become an<br />

means a sense of maximum involvement and belonging<br />

to improve and expand our members’ mission. We perform<br />

Are you betting on a new luxury concept?<br />

I wouldn’t use the word betting; we position the Federation<br />

at the top of the trends. This is our soul. Traditional<br />

Luxury clients want to establish a social position and to<br />

enjoy the best quality and designs. The price is not the<br />

most relevant factor, what matters is the ability to create a<br />

unique, personal, exclusive, and authentic product or service.<br />

This is still very important, yet, as new generations<br />

arrive, luxury tastes and consumption patterns evolve.<br />

Brands with style tell a story in which the main character<br />

is the client.<br />

Do you mean that there is more than only one type of luxury<br />

costumer?<br />

Today, luxury is highly segmented -customer centric- because<br />

of the fast pace changes in the fashion industry. We<br />

can see large companies sponsoring groundbreaking artists<br />

with very disruptive attitudes showing a way of life<br />

that breaks with the norm but at the same time this large<br />

firms are represented as well by the opposite side of profile;<br />

elegant and traditional. Yes, there is more than one<br />

type of luxury client. I honestly find fascinating to witness<br />

this evolution.<br />

Are you talking about Millenials?<br />

Yes, as well. Millennials are much more interested in living<br />

in the present moment, the experience than in long-lasting<br />

ownership. These are new values that will guide the strategies<br />

of the sector. This is the reason why Elite Spain<br />

offers to our members a communication strategy, events,<br />

and marketing actions that are disruptive and consider<br />

not only the brand itself but also the story the brand tells.<br />

This is the underlying concept that shapes the philosophy<br />

of The Spanish Luxury Federation Elite Spain.<br />

What other changes you foresee in the luxury sector?<br />

I see as very important the developments the Social and<br />

Ecological responsibility. Quality and Elegance need to<br />

come attach to these ethical developments. These are<br />

magnificent trends that some of our members are following.<br />

Can you give us some examples?<br />

Stella McCartney, for example, is a pioneer fully committed<br />

to a circular economy that decreases the textile waste<br />

produced. But it is taking things even further with its<br />

unique Vegan Fashion, using textured cellulose instead of<br />

leather without affecting quality or style. I see that this<br />

social and ecological decision greatly improves the user<br />

experience and elevates the brand. Another example is<br />

Kevin Murphy, the luxury hair cosmetics company. Its<br />

beautiful packaging design is made with 100% recycled<br />

waste collected from the oceans. This company recycles<br />

360 tons of plastic from the sea every year. I see this action<br />

as a great achievement.<br />

Those are not exceptions; it is a trend right?<br />

Exactly, that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals<br />

(PETA) is a member of the Board of Directors of LVMH<br />

since 2017 is another great example.<br />

Before we were discussing about millennials, I am convinced<br />

that the new generations will not support companies<br />

that tolerate the destruction of the environment, and they<br />

will strongly influence positive changes in social and ecological<br />

responsibility.<br />

Nos preguntamos cuáles son las<br />

claves del éxito de Elite Spain, la Federación<br />

Española del Lujo que está<br />

revolucionando la forma de trabajar<br />

en el sector del lujo y la alta gama.<br />

Hablamos con Sandra Andújar, la<br />

directora general de esta joven organización.<br />

¿Qué es Elite Spain, La Federación<br />

Española del Lujo?<br />

Es una entidad inscrita en el Registro<br />

Nacional del Ministerio del Interior<br />

que aúna más de ochenta empresas<br />

de alta gama y lujo. La forman una<br />

selección de empresas internacionales<br />

y nacionales que cumplen ciertos<br />

atributos. Vienen de empresas múltiples<br />

sectores, como la moda, cosmética,<br />

mobiliario y decoración, turismo, gourmet,<br />

aerolíneas, banca, inmobiliaria, motor, etc.<br />

En el equipo de Elite Spain sentimos como una<br />

extensión de cada uno de nuestros socios. No<br />

los vemos como empresas asociadas, sino que<br />

nos adherimos a su adn. Este enfoque de la<br />

colaboración propicia que el equipo tenga una<br />

actitud de máxima implicación, de pertenencia,<br />

y facilita que se ofrezca un trato muy personalizado,<br />

que se active un radar para captar todo<br />

lo que sucede en el mercado con la voluntad de<br />

informar a las firmas y saborear su potencial.<br />

Somos un equipo muy creativo, pero por encima<br />

de todo, abunda una gran pasión por lo que<br />

hacemos.<br />

¿Estáis apostando por un nuevo concepto de<br />

lujo?<br />

Más que apostar, nos sumamos a una corriente.<br />

Es el espíritu de los tiempos que corren. El<br />

cliente del lujo tradicional busca posicionarse<br />

socialmente o disfrutar de la mejor calidad o<br />

diseño. El precio no es, por supuesto, lo más relevante,<br />

sino la capacidad de crear algo singular,<br />

personal, original, auténtico…<br />

Esto sigue siendo muy importante, lo mismo<br />

que el componente aspiracional; pero cada<br />

vez más, y se ve muy claro entre los jóvenes,<br />

los gustos y pautas de consumo del lujo están<br />

cambiando. Las marcas con estilo cuentan una<br />

historia en la que su cliente es el protagonista.<br />

¿Eso quiere decir que ya no hay un prototipo de<br />

cliente de lujo?<br />

Vivimos en una era de lujo segmentado muy<br />

marcado por los imperativos de la moda.<br />

Podemos ver a grandes firmas patrocinando a<br />

artistas con actitudes muy disruptivas y que<br />

muestran una forma de vida muy joven y rompedora.<br />

Y las mismas firmas siendo representadas<br />

por otros perfiles que transmiten valores<br />

totalmente opuestos. Sí, hay más de un prototipo<br />

de consumidor de lujo. Sinceramente, me<br />

parece fascinante observar esta evolución.<br />

Estás hablando de los millennials…<br />

En efecto, en Elite Spain los tenemos muy presentes.<br />

Los millennials, están mucho más vinculados<br />

a la vivencia del momento, a la experiencia,<br />

que a la posesión. Son valores nuevos que deben<br />

orientar las estrategias del sector. Por eso nuestros<br />

eventos, la comunicación estratégica que<br />

ofrecemos a nuestros asociados, tienen muy en<br />

cuenta tanto la imagen de la marca como el relato<br />

que la sostiene. Este es el concepto que subyace<br />

detrás de la filosofía de Elite Spain.<br />

¿Qué otros cambios detectas en el<br />

sector?<br />

Me parece muy positiva la responsabilidad<br />

social y ecológica que en<br />

los últimos años es cada vez más<br />

importante. La idea de calidad, de<br />

elegancia de lujo, en definitiva, ya no<br />

puede ir desvinculada de esos planteamientos<br />

éticos. Lo veo como un<br />

avance muy esperanzador. Muchas<br />

de nuestras asociadas son muy sensibles<br />

a esta exigencia del mercado.<br />

¿Podrías mencionarnos algunos<br />

ejemplos?<br />

La firma Stella McCartney, por<br />

ejemplo, destaca por su buen hacer.<br />

No solo es pionera en esta corriente,<br />

sino que va un paso más allá con<br />

una moda absolutamente vegana. Empleando<br />

celulosa texturizada en lugar de cuero, la calidad<br />

y el estilo no se ven perjudicados; por el<br />

contrario, desde mi punto de vista incluso este<br />

hecho mejora la experiencia respecto a la marca.<br />

Realmente es una firma muy comprometida<br />

que apuesta por acelerar la transición a una economía<br />

circular y reflexionan sobre los residuos<br />

textiles generados. Otro ejemplo es la firma de<br />

cosmética capilar Kevin Murphy. Es difícil imaginar<br />

que la belleza del diseño de su packaging<br />

provengan al cien por cien de residuos reciclados<br />

de los océanos. Me parece una hazaña que<br />

esta firma recicle anualmente 360 toneladas de<br />

plástico del mar.<br />

Entiendo que entonces no son casos puntuales?<br />

Exacto, no olvidemos que Peta forma parte del<br />

consejo de administración de LVMH desde 2017.<br />

Caroline Wendelin is a Finnish artist based in the south of Spain. To create her artworks she combines different techniques, including<br />

In one of the highest valleys of the Himalayas,<br />

surrounded by hills on the shore of the Wang<br />

Chu River, lies the capital of Bhutan: Thimphu.<br />

Its wooded landscape made up of valleys and highlands,<br />

and its medieval feel, combined with the<br />

colourful facades of its buildings, make Thimphu a<br />

place that brings tradition and progress together<br />

in perfect harmony.<br />

Next to the Wang Chu River, travellers will be<br />

able to enjoy a relaxing traditional hot-stone bath,<br />

and savour an exquisite local dinner served with<br />

champagne, while admiring an incredible view of<br />

A NATURAL STAIRWAY TO THE HIMALAYAS<br />

It’s striking to cross the marvellous Dochula Pass, over 3,000m above<br />

the valley, and admire the breathtaking view of the highest peaks of<br />

the Eastern Himalayas. There awaits<br />

the solitary Gangkhar Puensum, the<br />

country’s highest peak and the highest<br />

unclimbed summit in the world.<br />

During the descent towards Punakha,<br />

the scenery begins to change. It’s<br />

a memorable experience to see the<br />

snowy summits and go through the<br />

little villages in the mountains, where<br />

yak-herders and Buddhist monks arrive,<br />

reciting their mantras on their way<br />

to unknown, remote monasteries.<br />

Mount Chomolhari crowns the north<br />

of Paro valley, and its glacial waters<br />

plunge between the profound canyons<br />

to form the Pa Chhu River. This is one of the most fertile valleys<br />

in the kingdom, and from here it’s easy to see the enormous area<br />

of terraced cultivated fields of the famous red rice, the star of the<br />

delicacies of Bhutanese cuisine.<br />

Once they arrive in Paro city, travellers will have the chance to go<br />

on horseback up to The Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang), the most important<br />

temple of the 2,000 that can be found scattered throughout the<br />

country. This monastery clings, literally, to a sheer cliff face 900m<br />

above the valley floor.<br />

Everyone who chooses to discover this mystic country will be able<br />

to enjoy, thanks to NUBA, some unforgettable experiences. From flying<br />

over the Gangtey valley in a hot-air balloon at sunrise, to hiking<br />

Amedio camino entre China y la India, se<br />

Sorprende atravesar el maravilloso paso de Dochula,<br />

elevado a más de 3000 metros de altura,<br />

y admirar las vistas espectaculares de los picos<br />

más altos de los Himalayas orientales. Allí espera<br />

solitario el Hangkar Punseum, el punto más<br />

alto del país y la cima más alta del mundo, que<br />

aún sigue sin ser escalada.<br />

En el descenso hacia Punakha el paisaje cambia.<br />

Resulta impresionante contemplar los<br />

picos nevados y transcurrir por las pequeñas<br />

aldeas de las montañas, a las que llegan pastores<br />

de yak o pequeños monjes budistas, recitando<br />

sus mantras camino de algún remoto<br />

monasterio.<br />

El Monte Chomolhari corona el norte del valle<br />

Paro y su agua glaciar se zambulle entre profundas<br />

gargantas para formar el río Pa Chhu. Es<br />

uno de los valles más fértiles del Reino y desde<br />

allí es fácil observar enormes extensiones de<br />

plantaciones dispuestas en terrazas del afamado<br />

arroz rojo local, una de las mayores delicias<br />

de su gastronomía.<br />

Una vez en la ciudad de Paro los viajeros tendrán<br />

la oportunidad de subir a caballo hacia el<br />

Nido del Tigre (Taktsang), el templo más importante<br />

de los 2.000 existentes en todo el país<br />

que se encuentra, literalmente, colgado en un<br />

acantilado a 600 metros de altura sobre el valle.<br />

Todos aquellos que se decidan a descubrir<br />

este místico país podrán disfrutar, de la mano<br />

de NUBA, de experiencias inolvidables; desde<br />

recorrer el valle de Gangtey en globo al<br />

amanecer, hasta realizar trekking y rutas a<br />

caballo por los impresionantes valles o hacer<br />

for 10 years. I represented our club as Vice<br />

President and secretary 2017-2018 and as<br />

President 2018-2019 and committee of the<br />

board Rotary Year 2019-2020 as a Former<br />

president and Public Relation and Membership<br />

advisor of Zone 9 Distrito 22<strong>03</strong><br />

Rotary Spain.<br />

Rotary club started with the vision of one<br />

man Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney<br />

formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23rd<br />

of February 1905, so professionals with diverse<br />

backgrounds could exchange ideas,<br />

form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and<br />

give back to their communities. Rotary’s<br />

name came from the group’s early practice<br />

of rotating meetings among the offices of<br />

its members. “Whatever Rotary may mean<br />

to us, to the world it will be known by the<br />

results it achieves” said our founder Paula<br />

Harris.<br />

We were truly international. Only 16 years<br />

after being founded, Rotary had clubs on<br />

six continents. Today, members in nearly<br />

every country work to solve some of our<br />

world’s most challenging problems.<br />

We persevere in tough times. During World<br />

War II, Rotary clubs in Austria, Germany,<br />

Italy, Japan, and Spain are forced to disband.<br />

Despite the risks, many continued to<br />

meet informally, and after the war, Rotary<br />

members came together to rebuild their<br />

clubs and their<br />

countries.<br />

On Thursday 15th August, Puente Romano<br />

hosted Charity Gala Dinner, which<br />

was carried out in aid of World Vision<br />

Organization.<br />

Summer Gala Dinner 2019 featured<br />

several international artists and had a<br />

record number of visitors. The evening<br />

cocktail served canapés from Nobu<br />

Marbella, and the four-course dinner<br />

was created by Puente Romano´s Head<br />

Chef Thomas Stork.<br />

Thanks to all the local sponsors and the<br />

guests who took part of the dinner, charity<br />

raffle and private donations, the night<br />

raised nearly 50 000€. The support<br />

received this year will help to eliminate<br />

childhood malnutrition in Bangladesh.<br />

El pasado jueves 15 de agosto, el Hotel<br />

Puente Romano organizó la Cena de<br />

Gala Benéfica a favor de la organización<br />

World Vision. La Cena de Gala de<br />

Verano 2019 contó con varios artistas<br />

internacionales y tuvo una cantidad récord<br />

de visitantes. El cóctel de la noche<br />

servía canapés de Nobu Marbella y el<br />

menú de cuatro platos para la cena fue<br />

confeccionado por el jefe de cocina del<br />

Hotel Puente Romano, Thomas Stork.<br />

Gracias a todos los patrocinadores locales<br />

y los invitados que participaron en la<br />

cena, el sorteo y las donaciones privadas,<br />

la noche recaudó casi 50.000€. El apoyo<br />

recibido este año ayudará a eliminar la<br />

desnutrición infantil en Bangladesh.<br />

with the silver screen. Unique pieces<br />
