ITINERARY
Day 1: WELCOME to ICELAND Private transfer from Keflavík International
Airport to a 4-star hotel in the center of Reykjavík, where you spend 2 nights.
Day 2: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE Iceland is spectacular and so is the Golden
Circle route. Experience wide open volcanic landscapes. Visit the ancient Viking
Parliament area of Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site, and
the place where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet - and are
moving apart. There is a widening fissure in the ground where the planet is
literally opening up. Next stop is Gullfoss, a double waterfall that tumbles 34
meters into a glacial river and attracts travellers all year. Nearby are the Geysir
geothermal fields. Sheer power of water and steam erupts and really makes you
realize how alive the ground is beneath our feet.
Day 3: TRAVEL TO WEST GREENLAND Private airport transfer in Reykjavík.
A 3-hour flight brings you to Ilulissat in West Greenland, 300 kilometres north of
the Polar Circle. Transfer and welcome meeting at 4-star Hotel Arctic. Enjoy a
guided city walk of Ilulissat and afterwards you have some time to explore the
town, visit the local museum and observe Greenlandic life at the always busy
harbour. There is hardly any place in Ilulissat where there is no view of either the
Icefiord, the Disko Bay or another natural gem. After dinner, depart for a sunset
cruise to the famous Ilulissat Icefiord which is the world's largest ice sculpture
park. The experience is overwhelming as lights and colours change constantly.
Day 4: THE CALVING GLACIER & HUNTER’S VILLAGE Early morning
departure by boat to Eqi – the calving glacier, which runs into the fjord 80 km
north of Ilulissat and is one of the most beautiful places in Greenland. It is
possible to get very close to the 5-km wide glacier front and see huge pieces of
ice breaking off. The sound of an active calving glacier is quite remarkable while
the sight of icebergs toppling into the water is breathtaking. Continue to the small
settlement of Oqaatsut/Rodebay. The local population of about 40 people is
dependent on fishing and hunting. Guided walk through the village which lies in
a beautiful natural setting; see the school, church and shop. Enjoy a local meal at
the old trading station, which for hundreds of years was a stopover place for
Dutch whalers, who dragged the huge whales onto land here in the old village.
Day 5: INUIT SETTLEMENT AT ILULISSAT ICEFIORD Guided walking
tour to the old Inuit settlement in the Sermermiut valley, on the famous Ilulissat
Icefiord, which was inscribed on UNESCO's world heritage list in 2004 because
of its outstanding glaciology and natural beauty. Learn about local history and
Inuit customs and admire the views across the majestic icebergs. The Icefiord is
about 65-70 km long. It is densely packed with floating icebergs and ice floes,
which are slowly pushed out through the fjord. Sit down and try listening for the
many different sounds of the ice. This is nature at its best. The rest of the day is
free at leisure to hike along the Icefiord and explore the town of Ilulissat. Farewell
dinner at Hotel Arctic.
Day 6: TRAVEL BACK TO ICELAND Explore the town of Ilulissat in the
morning and do a bit of last minute Greenland shopping. Return by flight to
Reykjavík. Private transfer to a downtown hotel in Iceland’s capital, where you
spend 2 nights.
Day 7: BLUE LAGOON & REYKJAVÍK Bus transfer to the Blue Lagoon
where you can relax in its rejuvenating mineral rich geothermal water, believed to
have healing powers. The afternoon is free at leisure to explore Reykjavík,
Iceland's capital, or enjoy optional spa treatments at the Blue Lagoon.
Day 8: DEPARTURE HOME Private transfer from your accommodation in
Reykjavík to Keflavík Airport.
