Discover the Taste of Australia @ Village Grocer<br />

18th <strong>July</strong> to 11th August<br />

Village Grocer Malaysia held “Discover the Taste of Australia” festival<br />

for a period of 4 weeks across 19 stores with a range of 1200 Australian<br />

products were displayed. Janice from our Asia Business Development<br />

team played a major role in organizing this event.


Fine Food Australia is a trade fair in Sydney for the<br />

food industry featuring the new trends in the<br />

markets and the food industry.<br />

Nassif, Mahesha, Binesh and Clevan from Lawand<br />

Trade attended Fine Food this year along with our<br />

partner clients Hussein Saad from Sultan Center<br />

Kuwait and Abdul Saleem from Lulu Qatar. A<br />

total of 15 new brands were selected from the<br />

visit which were differentiated and un-available<br />

in our markets.


This year we invited Hussein Saad from Sultan<br />

Center Kuwait and Abdul Saleem from Lulu<br />

Qatar on our Buying Mission to Australia. They<br />

were accompanied by our Business<br />

Development team members Mahesha and<br />

Binesh.<br />

The rigorous 2 days of Buying Mission again<br />

proved to be highly successful where the clients<br />

selected about 80 brands comprising of both<br />

new and existing brand which the clients were<br />

not buying earlier.<br />

Stores visited were Coles Broadway, Coles<br />

Pyrmont, Super Mart Surry Hills, Woolworths<br />

Marrickville and The Naked Store in North Bridge


Lawand Trade Bangalore office celebrated<br />

India’s 73 rd Independence Day with some<br />

performances and activities from our team<br />

members. The team organized a potluck where<br />

we tasted around 20 different cuisines from<br />

across India. The dress code was ethnic wear.

Due to incessant rains various parts of<br />

India were flooded, affecting over<br />

ten states in late <strong>July</strong> and early<br />

August. At least 200 people died<br />

and about a million people were<br />

displaced.


<strong>2019</strong><br />

MONSOON IN INDIA<br />

Andhra Pradesh<br />

Over 74,000 people in East Godavari and West Godavari<br />

district were affected due to flooding from Godavari<br />

river. Over 17,000 people were evacuated.<br />

Goa<br />

Pernem, Bicholim and Bardez talukas were worst affected<br />

in Goa. Several villages in North Goa were inundated due<br />

to heavy rains and water released from Tilari dam. 150<br />

families were evacuated<br />

Gujarat<br />

Central and South Gujarat were worst affected due to<br />

heavy rains. 26 of 30 sluice gates of Sardar Sarovar dam<br />

on the Narmada river were opened to release water.<br />

Vadodara city was flooded.<br />

Karnataka<br />

North, coastal and Malnad districts were worst affected.<br />

Other affected districts include Bagalkot, Vijayapura,<br />

Raichur, Yadgiri, Uttara Kannada, South Kannada,<br />

Shivamogga, Kodagu and Chikkamagalur. At least 24<br />

died. More than 2,00,000 people were evacuated and<br />

more than 2200 rescue personnel were deployed.


KERALA<br />

<strong>2019</strong><br />

MONSOON IN INDIA<br />

Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Ernakulam, Idukki,<br />

Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur and Kasargod districts were<br />

worst affected. Over 1 lakh people were evacuated to a<br />

total of 1111 relief camps. Kochi airport was closed due to<br />

water logging. Over 100 people died.<br />

MADHYA PRADESH<br />

Heavy rains flooded the Narmada river. Sluice gates of<br />

seven out of 28 dams in the state were opened to release<br />

the waters. Around 1000 people were evacuated. Dhar<br />

and Barwani districts were most affected.<br />

MAHARASHTRA<br />

The floods in five districts of Western Maharashtra were<br />

affected. About 2,00,000 people were evacuated and<br />

about 29 people died in the rain-related incidents. The<br />

flood gates of Almatti dam were opened and the NH 4<br />

(Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway) were closed.

MONSOON IN INDIA<br />

ODISHA<br />

Odisha was flooded by heavy rains in first week of August.<br />

Three people died in the floods. About 1,30,000 people in<br />

9 districts were affected. Kalahandi and Rayagada<br />

districts were the worst affected. More than 14,000<br />

people were evacuated to shelters from low-lying<br />

regions. More than 2000 houses were damaged.<br />

PUNJAB<br />

Following heavy rains and release of water from the<br />

Bhakra Dam, the swollen river Sutlej and its tributaries<br />

flooded villages in several areas, causing extensive<br />

damage to crops, especially paddy, and houses in lowlying<br />

areas. Over 300 villages were affected.<br />

TAMIL NADU<br />

Nilgris district was the worst-affected. More than 1700<br />

people were evacuated and around 500 personnels of<br />

NDRF and SDRF were deployed. At least five people died
