Deep Dive Discussion: Sustainable Energy in Cities – Opportunities and<br />

United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and<br />

Asia Pacific Urban Energy Association (<strong>APUEA</strong>) are pleased to share this invitation to<br />

the Deep Dive Discussion (DDD): Sustainable Energy in Cities – Opportunities and<br />

Challenges. The DDD will be held during the Seventh Asia Pacific Urban Forum (APUF-7)<br />

on 16 October <strong>2019</strong> in Penang, Malaysia. The session will explore the emerging issues,<br />

opportunities, and challenges local governments and city planners are facing in<br />

enhancing the sustainability of energy generation and use in the urban context.<br />

Key Discussion points during the DDD:<br />

• Cross-sectoral efforts are required to achieve sustainable, resilient, and liveable cities; how<br />

do we stimulate cross-sectoral urban planning?<br />

• Digitalization enables end-user engagement; what’s new in energy services?<br />

• What is the impact of (and solutions for) increasing energy demands in cities as a result of<br />

continuous urbanization in combination with rapid electrification, including EV’s<br />

During the session, international and regional experiences will be shared, aiming to provide<br />

insights in cross-sectoral development of sustainable energy for cities.
