Dear Sir/Madam
I’m a British graphic designer + consultant, who has been resident in the USA since 2016 and I’m
currently in the market, looking for employment or contract work.
I’ve run my own design consultancy since 1990, so understand and have experience of the pressures
and responsibilities of managing a business. While design and strategy are obviously core skills, the
ability to liase with, specify to and manage people and suppliers often makes the difference between
success and failure, and I think it is this experience that makes me an attractive prospect either as an
employee or contractor.
A seasoned professional, I continue to produce innovative (and responsible) design solutions for my
clients (wherever they may be!). I’ve had a broad range of clients ranging from large corporations like
Clarks Shoes to small to medium size organizations and businesses like Somerset Film (in the UK) and
Wallcoverings+ (in the USA). I’ve also taught aspects of graphic design and typography at BA degree
level at Somerset College of Arts & Technology in the UK.
My resume is attached and you’ll find reference to my work at www.lumbyfutrille.com
Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you need further information.
Yours faithfully,
Professional Summary
Work History
Lumby/Futrille | Somerset UK + Florida USA
Graphic design consultant + owner | July 1990 > present
• Have provided design consultancy, visualization and production since 1990. Project work has
included identities and brand development, leaflets, brochures, mailers, annual reports, manuals,
point-of-sale, vehicle liveries, signage, packaging, presentations and websites.
• Have worked with large corporations like Clarks Shoes and small to medium size organizations
like Somerset Film in various sectors, usually having direct access to the principals of these
businesses and organizations.
• Have developed strategies and briefs, with a long term view of how design might be applied
consistently over time – a process of identifying both internal and external communication
objectives and applying them.
• Have a developed sense of responsibility to produce solutions that meet the brief and create
value (cost v effect) for the client and their customers with an awareness of environmental issues
that prevail both in production and the marketplace.
• Understand the use of symbols and words, and the power and responsibility attached to their use,
and the potential this knowledge offers to innovate and create less generic and more powerful
visual solutions for clients.
• Fully committed to expressing the unique qualities of any business or product I am engaged to
work with (differentiation) through research.
• Understand that my work relies on other people (printers, photographers, web developers,
illustrators etc.) to be successful, so have experience of briefing and art directing, and motivating
and managing others to achieve the best results.
• Have an awareness of design ‘trends’ and therefore a developed perspective of how my
design work or any design work compares.
