statement
What an honor it is to be at Lamar University,
serving as your Director of Athletics. The past year
featured great wins and great leaps forward in all
facets of the athletic department. Nevertheless, we
cannot depend on past accomplishments to propel
us forward. We must look ahead and prepare so that
we may continue to maintain a first-rate athletic
program while standing firm on the University’s
value of excellence.

Simply put, Lamar University student-athletes
continue to make us all proud through their hard
work and tireless dedication. Our goal is to enhance
our student-athletes’ experience as Cardinals.
Your continued and increased support to provide
our student-athletes with resources necessary to
succeed is essential. Thank you for joining Lamar
University Athletics in supporting our 17 teams
through generous donations and by cheering them
on in the stands. Please know your gifts enhance
the lives of student-athletes on a daily basis and
will undoubtedly continue to positively impact our

Recent alumni of Lamar University may become a member of the Cardinal Club at the $25/Young Alumni
annual giving level as long as they are within three years of receiving their undergraduate or graduate
degree. After three years, the membership donation level will increase to the $50/Varsity annual giving
level.

Cardinal Club Annual Fund
While times and technology continue to change, Lamar University Athletics’
mission remains the same: to create champions - in academics, in athletics,
and in life. Giving at one of the Cardinal Club membership levels allows us to
provide resources to our student-athletes that meet the financial demand of
their academic pursuits.
Cardinal excellence Funds
The Cardinal Excellence Funds aim to enhance the Lamar University studentathlete
experience across all 17 sports. Gifts to a Cardinal Excellence Fund
or the AD Excellence Fund directly aid the sport of your choice. Annual
gifts help Lamar University Athletics meet critical operational needs such
as supplementing travel, budgets, and upgrading team facilities. These
annual gifts also contribute to items that directly enhance each studentathlete’s
experience. Cardinal Excellence donations have been used for travel
experiences, the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, nutrition, and
recovery programs.

ig red kids club
The Big Red Kids Club is the official kids club of Lamar University
Athletics. It was created as a way to introduce families and children
to the Cardinal family. For only $25, children 8th grade and
younger can experience the family-friendly environment our sports
programs offer, while also enjoying the best collegiate athletic
competition in Southeast Texas. Learn more about the Big Red Kids

A general Cardinal Club
membership starts at $50
annually. Cardinal Club
members can make a pledge
and honor that pledge
with payment installments
throughout the fiscal year.
All pledges for the 2019-2020
fiscal year must be paid in
full by june 30, 2020.

TRANSFERRABLE?
Account history and tickets cannot be
transferred generationally, but may be
passed to a spouse.

MEMBER?
No. While we encourage season ticket
purchases to help boost attendance at
Lamar University Athletics events, your
Cardinal Club support allows us to
continue giving Lamar University studentathletes
the best experience possible.
Q: DOES MY CARDINAL CLUB
GIVING LEVEL ROLL OVER
FROM YEAR TO YEAR?
No. In order for you to remain an active
member of the Cardinal Club, you must
make a gift at a certain level within the
current fiscal year.
Q: IS MY CONTRIBUTION TO
THE CARDINAL CLUB TAX
DEDUCTIBLE?
It depends. Under the tax laws, a
deduction may be available for a
charitable contribution to the Cardinal
Club where no benefits are received
by the donor. In the case of gifts,
where seating and ticket rights for an
athletic event held at Lamar Univeristy
stadium are accepted as a direct or
indirect result of such a gift, that is
non-deductible. Donors may request
that no goods or benefits be received
in exchange for donations, including
declining season ticket privileges and
benefits. We encourage all members to
consult their tax advisor regarding their
specific situation.
Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COMPLIANCE RULES?
Cardinal Club members may not write, call, contact, or otherwise recruit on behalf of Lamar University Athletics. You may speak
to a prospect only if the prospect initiates the call and the call is not for recruiting purposes. You must refer all questions to the
athletics program or the coaching staff. Under certain circumstances, it may be permissible to continue a pre-established relationship
with a prospect or prospect’s family. A prospect remains a prospect until he or she enrolls in classes at Lamar University. Current
student-athletes jeopardize their abililty to participate if they or their families have accepted any benefits (e.g., gifts or cash, meals at
a restaurant, event tickets, free or reduced cost services, etc.). Please keep in mind, extra benefit restrictions apply to current and
former student-athletes. Athletics representatives may provide an occasional meal to student-athletes, provided the meal occurs in
your home (it may be catered) or on campus and the meal is approved, in advance, by the compliance office. For more information,
