CLASS POEM 

“Jesus Christ – and We” (The World’s Bible”)

Christ has no hands but our hands 

To do his work today. 

He has no feet but our feet 

To lead men in His Way.

GOALS OF A PHILIA CLASS MEMBER 

1. I shall attend Sunday school classes regularly. 

2. I shall support my class and the Sunday school financially. 

3. I shall prepare myself for Sunday school by reading the 

Scripture and the lesson with prayer. 

4. I shall be on time for the class assembly, which is part of 

the worship preparation for study. 

5. I shall take the initiative in speaking to the members of my 

class and the Sunday school and shall call them by their 

first names. 

6. I shall volunteer to help with class activities. 

7. I shall attend class meetings when held. 

8. I shall take time to be with God every day. 

9. I shall attend regularly the service of worship in my church 

and shall support in every way possible the overall 

program of my church.

DUTIES OF CLASS OFFICERS 

PRESIDENT 

To preside over all class meetings and over Sunday 

School sessions 

To oversee and lead the class in all activities and functions 

To announce birthdays and anniversaries of class 

members for the current week 

To reserve dates for the Class Christmas Dinner, the Class 

Dinner in April, and the Three-Score-and-Ten Dinner in 

May with annual church calendar 

To be responsible for informing the church office of the 

dates of any class meeting and/or other important class 

activities 

To lead discussions about proposed expenditures. Any 

proposals over $200 will be discussed at one class 

meeting. The vote on the expenditure will be taken at the 

following class meeting by secret ballot. 

To appoint a three-person Nominating Committee to assist 

the president in the selection of class officers, to take office 

on September 1st of each year 

To announce the new class officers 

To appoint any other committees as necessary 

To request a class meeting to discuss any new committee 

issues that may arise. 

VICE-PRESIDENT 

To work closely with the president and perform all of her 

duties in her absence 

To work with the officers 

To purchase the gift for the outgoing President 

SECRETARY 

To record the class attendance on Sunday mornings 

To maintain the class roll and keep it current 

To attend all class meetings and to take and maintain the 

minutes of all meetings 

To welcome guests and new members, insuring each 

completes a class record card, and inviting them to attend 

all class activities 

To assure that cards are sent when appropriate

ASSISTANT SECRETARY 

To fulfill all the duties of the secretary in her absence and 

to otherwise assist the secretary in any necessary way 

TREASURER 

To collect all money received by the class and to deposit 

money in the class checking account 

To maintain class financial records 

To pay any approved debts incurred by the class 

To report the financial status of the class at all class 

meetings 

To donate $50 either to the First Baptist Church Memorial 

Fund or other organization, as designated by the family, in 

memory of deceased members, spouses, parents, and 

children. 

ASSISTANT TREASURER 

To fulfill all the duties of the treasurer in her absence and 

to otherwise assist the treasurer in any necessary way. 

DEVOTION CHAIRMAN 

To prepare programs and devotions for class functions 

To serve in the absence of both the president and the vicepresident 

DIRECTORY CHAIRMAN 

 

To be responsible for updating the class directory, 

supplying copies of it to the class at the beginning of each 

new Sunday School year. 

THREE-SCORE-AND-TEN COMMITTEE 

To secure the names of the church members who are 

three-score-and-ten or more in age. 

To distribute, at the April meeting, the above names to 

class members who will invite them to the Three-Scoreand-Ten 

Dinner in May 

To be responsible for the name tags and table decorations

MEMORIAL BOARD CHAIRMAN 

To obtain and install engraved name plates 

commemorating deceased Philia Class members on our 

Memorial Board. 

WATTS DINNER COMMITTEE 

To ensure that adequate members are recruited to 

volunteer for the Philia class WATTS dinner night 

responsibilities. 

PIANIST 

To play the piano and accompany the singing of hymns 

and songs on Sunday mornings and at all class functions 

PHOTOGRAPHER 

To record in snapshots the events and special happenings 

in the life and work of the class members 

KEEP-IN-TOUCH COMMITTEE 

To contact members who have been absent three (3) 

consecutive Sundays. 

To take flowers, not-to-exceed $40, to those members in 

the hospital at the discretion of the committee.
