This was the first “villagers assembly” in the history of Rîșcova. EcoVisio took over the role of a placemaker that inspired the locals to collectively reimagine and reinvent their village and, thereby, create a supportive rural community. Valeria and Julian are grateful for this experiment: “We need to grow into the village and become a part of the existing structure. Now we have a list of plans and we cannot wait to implement them. Charlotte works in the area of international cooperation and sustainable urban planning for GIZ in Algeria. of the program “Cultural Managers from Central and Eastern Europe.” She is organizing a festival for media arts and supports civil initiatives with urban development projects in the Ukrainian city Dnipro. In particular, she faces the challenge of how to involve passive citizens and bring them into dialogue with the city administration. When asked what she likes best about the training, she immediately answers: “The mixture of theory and practice! That helps me get the most out of the sessions. And that‘s why I don’t feel so overwhelmed by the amount of information we receive.” A practical example is given by workshop leader Sebastian Litta: in the context of the bankruptcy case of the drugstore chain Schlecker, participants are supposed to take on the roles of politicians from different parties and negotiate over the founding of rescue companies for employees. And what did Julia learn after the many roleplaying sessions? “Now I can present myself more confidently when I have to negotiate and defend my own interests. After doing so many exercises, now I have a structured plan in the back of my head.” Input from the experts is one aspect. But the concept of the training deliberately relies on the knowledge of the 49
