DESCRIPTION
THE WAY IT WAS,
is an app that provides an
interactive learning tool that will
enhance user experience and
change the way Market Square
is used. Currently, the space is
used for seating and as a walking
shortcut on days when it is not
being used as a market. With this
app, it will create a new way for
people to interact with this space.
The Way It Was allows visitors to
the area to learn about the history
of Market Square, City Hall, and
the surround buildings. The Way It
Was would be available on mobile
platforms due to its location based
components. The app tracks the
user’s location and provides them
with an image from decades ago
that was taken based on their exact
location in the Square.
For example, if a user were to stand
by the south-west bastion of City
Hall, an image would appear of
three police officers who stood
in that spot 100 years ago. Every
image provides a description to
give the user context about the
image’s history and discover the
historic roots of the Square.
The app also provides the user with
a virtual tour, where they unravel
the mysteries of Market Square
and City Hall. The tour guides the
user from location to location while
a narrator provides them with the
history and stories of the space.
