Little Book of Self-love
My guide to helping people find ways to put their own mental health before others and take care of themself. These specific tips have worked for me in the past, but may not work for everybody. But, it can't hurt to try. This project was created by a freshman at Maryland Institute College of Art.

Not an easy one, and not
one that happens overnight.
But it is a journey that can
only happen when you are
ready. Ready to let go of
negativity, and let love and
happiness in instead.
Before you can even start
to make change, learn to
accept the things you can’t
change. Take control and
change the things you can,
which will ultimately lead
you to becoming the happiest,
best version of yourself.
Everyone knows that the
foundations of any good
relationship are trust and
communication. But no one
ever thinks about trust and
communication as the foundations
of the relationship
with yourself. Once you can
learn to trust yourself, be
honest with yourself, and
listen to yourself, you can
start to truly care and love
yourself, the same as you
would go about caring and
loving for another person.
It is a personal journey, one
that only you can discover
through intentionally listening
to your body. A selfcare
routine does not always
mean the same as society’s
standards of being “healthy”
(i.e. drinking green juice
every morning, 6 am yoga
everyday, soulcycle classes
3 times a week, or eating
quinoa for every meal). A
self-care routine consists of
taking time out of your day
to listen to YOUR body and
doing what genuinely makes
YOU happy. Only then can
you continue a journey of
self-love, when you are truly
content with your body’s
specific requests.
So take breaks when you
need them. Eat a snack. Go
for a run. Take a hot bubble
bath. Draw. Paint. Cook. Play
piano. And most importantly,
don’t feel guilty for taking
necessary time for yourself.
Take a second to breathe or
meditate and just forget the
world for a few minutes.
Because when you spend
all day smiling and holding
everything in, you forget
how much you really need
a break. A break from your
strong, confident façade, just
for a few minutes.
EFT tapping mantra
As you tap through the meridian
points, repeat this
mantra:
“Even though I feel [emotion]
about [fear or problem],
I deeply and completely
accept myself”
As you tap the 10th meridian
point, repeat this mantra
three times:
“I am already feeling better
about this now.’’
Say it like you believe it.
Take a deep breath.
As much as you feel you
need to be kind to others, be
careful – because there are
people who aren’t always
worth it. Those people – the
kind of people who are ungrateful
or use you for your
kindness – don’t deserve it.
But NEVER doubt how
much you deserve your
own kindness. You always
deserve to be kind to your
mind, your body, and your
soul. Because if you don’t
reserve kindness for yourself,
you will have none left
for other people.
Ultimately, self-love will lead
you to a place of self-respect.
A point of view where you
can realize your true value
and worth. You will never
again doubt that you deserve
the world.
Because you do.
