Acompany’s values define its culture.Values play a fundamental role in attracting and retaining talented employees,making difficult decisions, prioritising resources, reducing internal conflict, differentiatingour brand and attracting the right kind of customers.WHY ARE OUR VALUES SO IMPORTANT?I believe that, at BTT, our employees are the backbone of ourcompany. We, the employees, define our culture.Talented people want to work in a company where they candevelop and thrive, so they seek out organisations with values that match theirown. As a consequence, BTT’s values and culture are critically important inguaranteeing that we attract and retain the right people.Our values help us to secure the right people and, as a result, set thefoundation for the BTT DNA.REGARDS,David LeisegangFOCUS GROUP FEEDBACKThe Appletree Group recently conducted 29 employee and management focus group sessions, involving about 125 individuals in face toface discussions. The following six key priorities were identified from the feedback received:1. Values – explore and clearly articulate what the BTTValues look like for each department and team. This wouldinclude areas such as internal customer service, respect andteamwork which were identified as opportunities.2. Recognition – use the clearly defined values to celebratethese behaviours when they are lived out internally.3. Communication – strive to be clear and more inclusivewith regards to change and other key issues affectingemployees.5. Diversity – explore diversity issues, create awareness ofsteps taken to achieve diversity and deal with current challenges.6. Relationship – create opportunities to drive positive interactionbetween people, departments, levels, and regions.This would include finding ways to drive collaboration as wellas social initiatives, teambuilding events, and celebrations.4.
