HISTORY IN

THE MAKING!

The Xin Si Lu- the ship which transported our four LPG tanks safely across the

ocean from China, berthed in Richards Bay on Friday, 12 September 2019.

Numerous challenges were encountered with regard to getting the tanks from the

ship into their cradles at BTT, however once the first tank was transported to site,

the remaining three were moved across relatively quickly.

OUR JOURNEY

WITH BTT

Life is a journey, and everyone has their own story to tell about how they got

to where they are today.

In August, we celebrated some Long Service milestones, and among them,

was one 35 year and two 30-year achievements.

Here are their stories:

Dominic Mjwara Isaiah Ndlovu Amos Sithole

“I joined BTT in 1988 and I have been based

at Bay 1 for the past 30 years as a Level 4

Operator. I grew up on a farm as an only

child after my sibling passed away and I

used to watch my dad getting ready for work;

he worked at Island View Storage and I

wanted to follow in his footsteps. I knew

back then that IVS (now BTT) was a good

company to work for.

Over the years, I have seen big improvements

with regard to safety in particular and

I enjoy coming to work.

My advice to anyone who would like to join

BTT is that you must be a team player!”

ASK US

BTT is launching a new platform whereby you can send through any questions that you

would like answered to ASK@bidtanks.com.

Every quarter, we will feature six people with their questions, along with the answer,

on this page of THE CREST.

“I started working at BTT Richards Bay on

18 May 1989 when it was still called RBBS.

I started out as an Ammonia Operator and

BD Operator, then I became a Shunter and

Driver. In 2002 I was promoted to Loco

Driver and Shunter and in 2008 I was

promoted to permanent Loco Driver,

where I am today.

The biggest change over the years has been

all the tanks that have been built. Lots of

people were employed for Liquid Plant

(Alpha Olefine’s plant). My advice to new

employees is to be patient, be loyal and

always put safety first.”

“I matriculated at Amangwe High School in

Empangeni, and then I started working at

BTT Richards Bay in 1983 as an Operator

Shunter when I was 24 years old.

Back then there were only three BD

Spheres, two ammonia tanks, and one

shunting tractor. After a few years, they built

a Propylene tank and all the old Operators

were trained in Propylene. I was later

promoted to Senior Operator. After 10 years,

Alpha Olefines built liquid and solvent

tanks- the plant grew very quickly. They then

created more departments which meant that

you were no longer required to do shunting

as an Operator, your focus was on operating

the plant. I was elected as a Loco Driver in

the Shunting department and I am still in this

position.

I would like to encourage everyone to be

loyal to BTT- I’ve been able to put my

children through school and college, get

married and buy a house in the township

and rural area. Be obedient, have good

attendance and you will be successful like

me.”
