KNOWING IN-DEPTH ABOUT COLOUR BLINDNESS
When we search online to read about colour blindness in various scientific
booksit is described as a situation or a case of deficiency in which the subject
cannot see or distinguish different colours properly. This generally happens
whenpeople are unable to distinguish or differentiate between the group of main
colours. Patients are unable to identity major colours like red, green and blue.
The problem exists in the retina of the eyes of the patient. There are two major
types of cells in the retina that catch light and process it for the person to be
able to see properly. One of the cells are rods – that are very delicate and
sensitive to dim lighting. The other is the cone cells that are responsible for
reading colours and transmit the signal to the brain through nerves for colour
justification. As mentioned above there are 3 major groups of colours which
creates confusion and those colours are red, blue and green. One of the key
reasons which causes this deficiency is that when one or more colour cones are
not present.
There are several layers of degrees in colour blindness. Some people suffer from
mild colour blindness disorders in which they are unable to see mild colours and
further they cannot differentiate it. In this case the patient is able to see in light
but cannot see properly under dim light. Another case is totally opposite because
in this case subject cannot completely differentiate between any colour. This
kind of represents complete colour blindness.
Colour blindness test
There are two ways of testing for colour blindness.
1. Ishihara colour vision test helps to understand if a person has a
fundamental issue with distinguishing colours. In the test, multiple
coloured dots are depicted. If the subject is having problem then he or
she won't be able to see the coloured shapes and numbers showcased in
the group of coloured dots.
2. For more information and analysis of colour blindness in the eyes, the
method of Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test is conducted.
Advanced clinics in the country today use the CAD or the Colour Assessment and
Diagnosis Test for colour blindness testing in India.
Major Signs
It has a wide range from mild to fatal or serious. This type of deformity can only
be supervised by the parents when they are young. There are different conditions
which are responsible for the issue.
1. Lazy eye
2. Way stagmus
3. Poor vision
These problems generally arise due to disease, trauma or over-use of intoxicated
substances which includes several drugs and can also occur due to vascular
diseases.
Colour blindness treatments are not available unfortunately to eradicate the
root cause of the disease. Contact lenses and glasses are created with inculcates
various filters for the proper identification of various colours. Most people are
able to distinguish between a variety of colours, wearing these visual aids. In
depth research is further going on to find out proper treatment methods so that
patients can be treated of the issue medically.
In India treatment for colour blindness is being carried out now after extensive
researches to get fruitful results that are helping can save patients with colour
blindness issues.
