2020: How gunmen attacked my house,
by Edo APC chieftain
By Ozioruva Aliu
BENIN CITY—THE
race to Edo State 2020
governorship election got
messier over the weekend
as the residence of
a chieftain of the All
Progressives Congress
(APC) and former member
of the House of Representatives
Hon Isaac
Osahon was attacked by
suspected hoodlums and
in the process destroyed
properties worth several
millions of naira. The
house is situated off
Uwelu Road in Egor local
government area.
Narrating the incident
suspected thugs were
sent by the chairman of
APC leader begs Buhari
By Elizabeth Uwandu
ABUJA—A Chieftain of
the All Progressives
Congress, APC, in Edo
State, Hon. Washington
Osifo, has written to
President Muhammadu
Buhari and raised the
alarm over what he
described as the
prevailing pains and
neglect being suffered by
the people of the Niger
Delta due to the inability
of members of the newly
constituted board of the
Niger Delta Development
Commission (NDDC) led
by Dr Pius Odubu to
commence operations.
In a letter addressed to
the President, Osifo who
is one of the members
elect in the Edo State
House of Assembly,
appealed to the President
to critically look at the
issues regarding the
constitution of the Interim
Management Committee
by the Minister of Niger
Delta, Godswill Akpabio
and use his good offices
to uphold the constitution
by ensuring that the
legally constituted board
of the NDDC assume
duties.
The letter recalled that,
"Your government
recently took some critical
steps consecutively,
APC in Ovia North East,
Mr Etiosa Ighodaro.
He said: “As a former member
of the House of Representatives,
I am a stakeholder
in the party and I am also an
elder, I have had series of meetings
before in my house. On
this fateful day, I got a call from
the chairman of my Adolor
Ward Peter Omoruyi and the
party chairman, Etiosa
Ighodaro has directed him to
warn me not to have the meeting
otherwise I should be
ready for the consequences.
“However, I went ahead
with the meeting which we
usually have. It was while the
meeting was going that I first
heard a gunshot outside my
house which was followed by
several gunshots and when I
looked outside, I saw them
already climbing the fence
aimed supposedly at
repositioning the NDDC.
These steps include but
not limited to the
nomination of the
Chairman and members
of a new NDDC
governing board, the
inauguration of a forensic
audit panel to look into the
books of the organization
since inception, the
consideration and
L AGOS—PASTOR
Olaitan Aromolaran
has joined the rest of
Nigerians to support the
border closure by
President Muhammadu
Buhari's led Federal
Government, saying, "it
is the best thing that has
happened to the country
in recent times."
Aromolaran, Senior
Pastor, Joy Cometh
Ministries in Ikorodu
said the closure of the
border was long overdue
and that he aligns with
former President
Olusegun Obasanjo's
support for the closure of
the border.
Speaking at a news
into my house and I even saw
one of them struggling with
the mobile policeman in my
gate. Some of them also entered
through the backdoor
and attacked my aged mother,
destroyed her television set
and other things. They destroyed
all the vehicles they
found inside the compound
including my own and of
those who came to attend the
meeting. They destroyed my
windows and police recovered
more than 30 used catridges
inside my compound.”
This attack came barely a
month when a similar incident
happened in Ivbiaro, Owan
East local government area
where a planned meeting of
some APC members was disrupted,
properties were destroyed
and some persons
sustained serious injuries.
He alleged that the attack
could not be far from the current
crisis rocking APC in the
state.
But when contacted yesterday,
Ighodaro denied the allegation
saying he has not
spoken to Osahon since the
beginning of this year neither
did he send anybody to his
house.
He said “I don’t know anything
about it, I don’t know
whether he was holding any
meeting, if he has issues with
people, he should sort them out
and don’t drag me into it. I am
the chairman of Ovia North East
and not Egor where his residence
is where he is claiming was
attacked. I have passed through
many things in the hands of these
people and I don’t know why he
is dragging me into it.”
Osahon said a formal report
has been lodged with the police.
"The Nigerian public,
the Niger Delta welcomed
conference in Ikeja,
Lagos, to announce its
coming programme,
tagged:"365 Hallelujah/
World Hallelujah Day" to
hold on December 6, at
the Ikorodu Town Hall,
Ikorodu, the cleric
asserted: "Until we know
where we are going, we
will never get there.
There is need for us to
go through some
processes, that is what
you are seeing now on
the border closure."
The senior pastor also
expressed optimism that
Nigeria will walk again
despite series of
challenges, saying that
"God has started with
Nigeria and we have
government that believes
in the welfare of the
people. We believe that
the more we pray and
these sequence of events
with great hope and
excitement, but feel sorely
irked by the oddity of setting
up an Interim Management
Committee to manage the
affairs of the NDDC until the
forensic audit of the
Commission is completed. This
fact was superciliously made
public by Mr. Godswill Akpabio,
the Minister of Niger Delta
Affairs."
work harder, the more
we become better."
According to him,
"Hallelujah is
synonymous with good
news, anything that had
not worked, but suddenly
begins to work is greeted
with Hallelujah. As we
declare Hallelujah Day,
we are prophesying that
Nigeria will work again,
peace will reign in the
world again and
prosperity will be ours
again," he said.
Aromolaran explained
that the first Hallelujah
day was held in 2012
and that it was directed
by God, saying that
since everyone believes
that Hallelujah is a
universal language, a
day should be set aside
to celebrate World
Hallelujah Day.
US EXIM Bank likely to triple future funds to
Egypt reaching $6bn
THE Export–Import Bank of the United States (US
EXIM Bank) is expected to triple its pipeline
projects in Egypt to reach $6bn in the next years.
Judith Pryor, member of the board of US EXIM Bank,
said that the current commitment of the bank for future
cooperation is $2bn.
“EXIM Bank has financed projects in Egypt with $5bn
over the past 10 years. We are interested in supporting
several economic sectors in Egypt including aviation,
agriculture, information and communication technology
(ICT), as well as infrastructure, agribusiness, and women
in businesses,” Pryor added.
DNE interviewed Pryor on the side-lines of her recent
visit to Egypt to participate at the US-Egypt Future Prosperity
Wall Street falls after U.S. tariffs on
metal imports, soft PMI data
U
.S. stocks fell on Monday after President Donald Trump
said he would restore tariffs on metal imports from Brazil
and Argentina, while weak domestic manufacturing data fanned
worries of a slowing economy due to a prolonged trade war with
China.
The U.S. economy’s manufacturing sector contracted for
a fourth straight month in November, as new order volumes
slid back to around their lowest level since 2012. Construction
spending also unexpectedly fell in October.
The figures were in sharp contrast to recent economic
indicators that had reassured investors of a resilient domestic
economy. Global markets had also cheered an unexpected
rebound in Chinese manufacturing earlier in the day.
[MKTS/GLOB]
However, Trump’s tweet about restoring tariffs on U.S.
steel and aluminum imports dampened sentiment. The news
sent shares of U.S. steel makers including U.S. Steel Corp
(X.N) and AK Steel Holding Corp (AKS.N) up 3.9% and
6.9%, respectively.
