Commissioner honored for 20 years of service<br />

On Nov. 1, Frankfort<br />
Park District Commissioner<br />
Tom Barz was honored<br />
by the Illinois Association<br />
of Park Districts, or IAPD,<br />
for his 20 years of service<br />
as a Commissioner of the<br />
Frankfort Park District.<br />
Barz was first elected to<br />
the Frankfort Park District<br />
Board in 1999. Barz was<br />
most recently re-elected to<br />
the Park Board in 2019 for<br />
a four-year term that runs<br />
through May 2023. He is<br />
currently the president of<br />
the Frankfort Park District<br />
Board of Commissioners<br />
and has previously served<br />
at the vice president of the<br />
Board.<br />
Barz has committed to<br />
serving the residents of<br />
Frankfort. During his time<br />
on the Frankfort Park District<br />
Board of Commissioners,<br />
he has assisted in<br />
the District receiving more<br />
than $2 million dollars in<br />
Open Space Lands Acquisition<br />
and Development<br />
grant funding along with<br />
acquiring 150-plus acres<br />
of park land inventory.<br />
Barz has been a strong<br />
advocate for funding and<br />
advocacy of park issues<br />
at the State level. In 2017,<br />
he served as the chairman<br />
of the IAPD board. During<br />
that time, Barz spent<br />
countless hours of his time<br />
advocating and supporting<br />
initiatives for parks and<br />
recreation. Prior to serving<br />
as the chairman, Barz<br />
served as a joint conference<br />
chairman for the Illinois<br />
Parks and Recreation<br />
Association. He continues<br />
to dedicate many hours<br />
to improving recreation<br />
services in Frankfort and<br />

Lincoln-Way students invited<br />
to apply for scholarships<br />

The General Federation<br />
of Women’s Clubs Illinois<br />
is offering scholarships<br />
through the GFWC Mokena<br />
Woman’s Club sponsorship<br />
for students planning<br />
on enrolling in an Illinois<br />
college, university, trade<br />
or vocational school for<br />
the 2020 fall semester. Applicants<br />
are not limited to<br />
current high school seniors.<br />
All ages of potential students<br />
are welcome to apply,<br />
and past applicants and/or<br />
winners may re-apply.<br />
Applicants need only<br />
to be a resident of Illinois<br />
and plan to attend an Illinois<br />
college, university or<br />
vocational school.<br />

Smith Drama Scholarship,<br />

Scholarship for Boys and<br />
Vina A. Miller Education<br />
Scholarship.<br />
