THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS<br />
The Pursuit of Happyness tells the incredible true story of Chris Garner, a struggling<br />
single father who overcomes homelessness and becomes a multi-millionaire<br />
investor. The lead roles are skillfully played by Will Smith and his son, Jaden.<br />
The movie instills the importance of showing children they can achieve their<br />
dreams no matter the circumstances.<br />
DADDY’S LITTLE GIRLS<br />
In Daddy’s Little Girls, Idris Elba plays Monty, a hardworking, single father who<br />
fights to regain custody of his three daughters. This movie provides a beautifully<br />
rendered example of the lengths a parent will go for the sake of children.<br />
BLOOD DIAMOND<br />
In the gritty action flick Blood Diamond, a mercenary, and a fisherman embark on<br />
the perilous journey to recover a rare diamond that will alter their fates. Djimon<br />
Hounsou co-stars as the fisherman Solomon Vandy, a father who makes the ultimate<br />
sacrifice by giving his life to ensure his son’s safety. The movie presents a<br />
heart-wrenching example of self-sacrificing love in its purest form.<br />
THE BUTLER<br />
The historical drama The Butler is loosely based on the life of Eugene Allen, who<br />
served as a butler in the White House for 34 years. In the film, his story is reimagined<br />
with character Cecil Gaines, played by Forest Whitaker. His story unfolds<br />
in a time of political unrest and war as he serves as a butler in the White House<br />
during eight presidencies. The movie wonderfully showcases an unconditional<br />
love of family that is strong enough to withstand life’s adversities.<br />
THE GREAT DEBATERS<br />
The Great Debaters features Denzel Washington as Melvin B. Tolson, a professor<br />
and father figure of sorts at Marshall, Texas’s Wiley College in 1935. He encourages<br />
and challenges his students to achieve greatness as the school’s first debate<br />
team. The movie illustrates the importance of mentorship and inspiring young<br />
minds to flourish.<br />
Through the characters’ hardships and triumphs, viewers can both relate<br />
to and learn from their mistakes and successes. Love is the driving force that<br />
compels each man to go against the odds for children.<br />
