Heritage property in 2011. You can enjoy visits to the oldest synagogue in
the western hemisphere, the third oldest parliament in the British Commonwealth,
the home where America’s founding father George Washington stayed in 1751 at
the impressionable age of 19, a well preserved Garrison that was the largest British
military facility in the Caribbean, as well as 11 state-of-the-art museum attractions.
Barbados, the birthplace of rum, was one of the first economies to produce sugar
and its ‘spirited’ by-product around 1640. Today there is a rich fusion of African and
British colonial heritage. St. Nicholas Abbey, the third oldest Jacobean house in the
Americas, produces Signature single barrel rum and is open to visitors. There are also
over a hundred historic churches with fascinating grounds and graveyards to explore.
